youtube is so awesome. I came in in the middle of this skit on TV, and really was bummed I missed the beginning - and here it is on Youtube! Thanks for posting!
I love this vignette. So awful. I feel so bad for Alfred Molina's character because he's so sincere and Coogan's character is so put off by, and even frightened by his sincereity. Beautiful awkward moment. Just awful. Brilliant!
Aaah! this is so embarassingly realistic! everyone knows that at some point of their lives they have been BOTH Coogan and Molina in this situation. jarmusch is a genius!
Hilarious, priceless, perceptive, and cringe-inducingly awkward! My favorite vignette from the film, up there with the Cate Blanchett and Tom Waits/Iggy Pop scenes.
It is definitely an examination of human nature. It shows that deep hipocrisy(in a good sense) that society has forced us to have. In order to interact with people we must pretend to feel something that we dont. And look for ways for not telling the truth up front. Plain Truth in human interaction is mostly avoided nowadays...It's considered bad manners...
Sad, but true. I love to be in a conversation with someone when we've both been sworn to complete honesty and just sitting there shooting questions back and forth. What then would seemingly be offensive isn't because you know its the truth and not a lie which hurts more.
This exact scene would fit into Extras perfectly, replacing Steve Coogan with Ricky Gervais.
