Woah woah woah, that porn comment was out of line. Whether or not it's true, excessive porn use is stigmatized, and such a comment only serves to stigmatize the personality.
I'm nearly 90% sure I have this disorder, in an intermediate form. I notice a difference between how psychologists present and define the disorder and how sufferers (I hesitate to call them that) define it. We are not colorless. In fact our interior lives may be bright and vibrant. Luckily, one symptom that I fail to exhibit is lack of motivation. I have too many delusions of grandeur to not fulfill them. And I have no problem with walking over people, because I really just don't care.
I'm a writer and an illustrator in childrens books. It use to be perfect to me. I only get contact with my editors and other authors. But... now, people call me to TV interviews, schools and bookfairs... kind of funny...
i do have a humour, perhaps no one else share mine or i'm in a small minority. so i must change because people fail to make me laugh. but sadly i don't have the papers on my wall to say i know what i'm talking about
clearly i must be more sensitive and emotional i must get loads of popular culture friends so that i can bounce my views on them so i can be quicky rejected. and feel stupid about my outlook on life. let the zombies eat my brains so i become one of them, good metaphor no, i tried.
ok so i need loads of friends because quantity no quality matters. i need to be genuinely emotional with people and there insignificant personal problems "my girlfriend split up with me" or rubbish. when compared to some guy starving in the 3rd world your problems are a dark joke.
i purely care about how people think rather than who they are so even family members i'll treat like strangers, (emotionless) just because someone shares DNA or whatever with me i should discriminate, sounds barbaric
Bleufer's "schizoid" list = professional security ( any one or two of those "identifiers" could, and most likely do, apply to anyone - everyone. What horseshit.
I think he's wrong about the notion that a schizoid would be someone who views a lot of interent porn. Schizoids tend to anhedonic, and have trouble experiencing intense emotion, so I doubt they'd have much of a sex drive to be honest. And schizoids generally describe sex as "boring," so I doubt they'd be fascinated by pornography.
This is true for me at least, I don't know about other schizoids.
@qtpie99 it could be true in the fact that the schizoid is secretly desiring a relationship with the opposite sex. It would give them an outlet sexual desires.
"Schizoids tended to be quite thin" WOW!!! this has really blown me away. I've been researching this lately, a kind of self-discovery process and to think that my weight may have some link to my personality type REALLY intrigues me. I could never figure out why I am so thin (and socially I have paid for it dearly). Very interesting stuff.
I'm often isolate from most people, but not cause Schizoid disorder, but cause I do not aprove this sick ignorant and alienated society. I'm selletive, and so only talk or relate with very few people.
What the heck? Most of these are descriptions of an introverted person. Is this written by an extrovert? Do non-extroverts have a "disorder" because they're not extroverts?
That's exactly what I would like to know!!! I think people who talk too much, crave attention like it's air have conditions. maybe it's ADD or something.
Schizoid personality disorder isn't so black and white. In my experience schizoids can enjoy social experiences as long as they are familiar. After exposing themselves they will need to 'recharge' their batteries with alone time. Several days of being social in a row will cause strong urges towards social avoidance. I would argue Schizoid is rooted within high levels of intellectualism and childhood emotional negligence or abuse.
I think there is a big difference between those with Schizoid traits and introversion. I am a former introvert, now extrovert through things which effected my brain and core personality, and I enjoyed the quiet life and some social contact, but in limited amount. Schizoids actually seem to eschew social contact outside of what is needed or necessary. To them social contact, almost any, is seen as taking more energy than it is worth and takes away from them and who they are.
Certain circumstance can and do change ones personality. Aquired Brain Injury (ABI) is just one of them. I deal with a chronic pain condition. Chronic pain changes ones brain on subtle but distinctive levels. Emotional regulation is no longer the same. Parts of the brain and emotional regulator never shut off. This is part of what happened to me on a very simplified scale. Had to relearn how to manage my emotions all over again.
@RiordanX Are you talking about being introverted? No. It's not the same as being a schizoid, although they are similar, since to be a schizoid you must be very introverted.
Introverts need to recharge; spend time with close friends and aren't necessarily social, but still talk with people
Schizoids aren't social at all, don't talk with others, most of the times.
@RiordanX I've never thought to describe it like that, but that's pretty well said :3 I don't have this disorder, though--I just don't feel "real" a lot of the time.
@RiordanX i thought i was one 6 months ago. turned out that i wasn't (a psychologist told me). and i'm the kind of guy that only hangs out once a month, and when i do so, i really enjoy it. and the "high levels of intellectualism" part also fits me. after analysing the social relationships between my classmates i once arrived to the conclusion that they were all fake, and that anyone could kill me any time they wanted. so i stopped talking to people to become invisible. i'm ok now.
I think I have shizoid disorder, but I am able to socialise if needed, I also have the mood swings of bipolar disorder, and infrequent paranoiac episodes. I may be schizophrenic??? I need advice really.
See a psychiatrist as soon as you can. I have both of the disorders that you have mentioned. These paranoid episodes that you claim to experience may indeed come from bipolar mania if you do indeed have bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder gets worse and worse with time if you don't seek treatment. I don't consider Schizoid PD a problem at all. It's a blessing, especially if you are also bipolar like me.
hi, well I had somwhat of a meltdown recently...everything got to me. The problems were essentially paranoia and obessive compulsive-ness stemming from instability in my life at the moment (and bipolar mania if your right?) but my mother discouraged me from pursuing the psychatrist route...its a double edged sword really...when I'm suffering from ocd, depression and paranoia I want to seek help...then when I i'm up or 'normal' (or level) I sort of forget about seeking help.
I just find it humorous how society labels people who do not fit their social criteria freaks or mentally ill. I believe that society as a whole needs to seek therapy, not us. No wonder why people are so depressed. Society doesn't let them be themselves. You have to be like everybody else. We schizoids know who we are.
@joker1xxi I totally agree. It is in terms questionable that it's even a disorder to begin with, as the symptoms range more or less in pivotal differences paralleled to extremities of the general introverted personality, characteristics are left to be judged within our own subjectivity. As opposed to being labeled by blunt symptoms and demeaning classifications potentially shown to be stereotypical in the social aptitude.
@joker1xxi You don't really understand. Being a loner is fine, but when you become emotionless, it is not "okay". People with Schizoid PD, for the most part, experience a lot of anhedonia, which I can imagine is incredibly boring. I experience too much lack of emotion and anhedonia myself. Creates apathy; makes life just mediocre. Not fun. Then of course it can start interfering with your activity (avoiding people), combine all this together, and you have Schizoid PD.
people like this have no concept.some schizoids do marry, and some do have sex at a distance.others can have friends but few.and others will never have sex there entire life but can enteract with surtain situations.schizoids pick who they want to talk to.schizoids make there opwn laws of ingagements.
The first picture is rather insulting. Secondly it seems like the speaker is making fun of those affected with this disorder when he mentions the story with his wife. Oh, no, he might be one of "them"! What a joker.
Please go to Yahoo and type in "Horrible Truth About Psychiatric Drugs" to see a research paper exposing these drugs. Also so the search "Documented Proof Psychiatric Drugs Shorten Lifespan". There are a lot of parallels and overlaps between Aspergers syndrome (Autism) and Schizoid Personality Disorder.
The term 'Schizoid Personality' directly predates the naming of this disorder. Schizoid Personality was used to describe someone who cut themselves off (schizo = split) from the rest of the world. In other words, it described an introverted nature.
Many believe that the subsequent attempt to relate the two is based on a misunderstanding of the linguistic history of the disorders.
@darknightseeker - Statistically speaking, the vast majority of schizoid individuals make clinical contact due to comorbid conditions. For example, there's a high prevalence of comorbid SZD and depression. So the individual would probably receive the SZD diagnosis while seeking treatment for the depression.

I bet there is a strong correlation.
