@badpanda84 There is nothing that i know of in the bible that says anything about molesting little kids. That is why all these catholic priest don't know any better i guess.
@TheLogicalPosition Ok i am sure you have a credible source for that info you just spewed out. (but i would be willing to bet against it) The point of my comment was since many christians/catholics claim to get their morals from their bible. Since the bible does not discuss molesting little kids as far as i know. How would a catholic priest know if molesting little kids is wrong?
@hellasow According to the the John Jay Institute's report: The Catholic figures show that between about 4% of priests and deacons serving in the US between 1950 and 2002 had been accused of sexual abuse of someone under 18. In this country, the figure was a 10th of that: 0.4% But whereas the victims in the general population are overwhelmingly female, the pattern among American Catholic priests was quite different. Four out of five of their victims were male.
@TheLogicalPosition My question to you is this: with 4 out of 5 assaults on males, how come not a word is said about same-sex sexuality attractions? Does it not raise any questions why it is the Catholic Church that is primarily targeted, especially when this is a tragic phenomena that exists in all professions, including other branches of Christianity? Does this not indicate that the Catholic Church is some form of threat in what it teaches? To me, I see no other way to interpret it.
@TheLogicalPosition I see you posted this question to yourself but i will answer it. The catholic church is extravagant with their moral bullshit parading around in their costumes. I would think most catholics would hold popes, bishops, and priest up to a higher moral standard themselves...Its the immoral behavior of hiding priest and bishops for that can molest other kids as standard procedure that got all the attention.
@hellasow a) Their costumes reflect traditional dress of the time of the original, pre-biblical church. b) moral bullshit: you can attempt to explain this one. c) Higher standard: I agree. d) Practice of transferring priests to other churches, and not going public: 1:hold these actions to the standard actions of the times. Back in the day, NOBODY was outing uncle Bobby, or the fact that he was touching his nephews.2:sexual deviancy was seen to be "curable" by the body of science of the time.
@hellasow Science matures; neuroscience tells us about the deeply rooted behavioral patterns and that they are not likely to stop (because a person is not likely able to change their inclinations). What SHOULD be of interest is how the Catholic Church has tightened up its screening procedures so much that it is possibly the tightest in the world. Those fixated on sexually centered lives or identities are not allowed to enter the seminary. HUGE DROP in cases. 8 out of 44,000 priests in 2008.
@hellasow The Catholic Church has since dealt with the procedure. However, everyone loves to jump on them and say they should have done this or that. All I have to say is this: take a look back in your own family tree and start asking questions about how they dealt with things back in the day. Don't sit here and think it is logically acceptable to apply a standard from another time era to today or vise versa.
@TheLogicalPosition John Jay Institute's report:...hmm a highly religious entity would have not motive at all to sku their results. Questions persist about the reliability...DID the researchers rely principally on reporting by bishops? Do you see a self interest?

It is amazing that such irrational non-sequiturs and false conclusions (based on false axioms, no doubt) can come from someone seemingly educated.... with a Ph.D even. Goes to show that education does not guarantee rationality.
Before all of you "Christian Bashers" open your big mouths, think about something.
Why is whenever you see or hear something controversial, unthinkable, or just plain shocking, the first three words that come out of your hole are: OH, MY GOD???
I think you're the one that missed the point. If Quantum physics depends on interlocking rules that make equations possible, it seems to point to a Designer. Randomness allows no such precision. If there was a designer, it is logical that he may have left some record of his design - and we call that the Bible. And Einstein, although Jewish, stated that the thing that was his highest goal was to know the man from Nazareth. Many other brilliant scientists have been driven to God by their science.
Actually I didn't bring up Einstein. I was correcting your mischaracterization of the intricate design of the universe.
Can you cite a reference? My statement stands as fact. He said it. What he meant by it MAY be open to debate. What he understood God to be MAY be open to debate. But the statement stands,
While in University, Einstein defended a Christian student against his professor by stating that evil wasn't created by God, but the absence of God.
"However, there is a contradiction between Dawkins and the biographer Isaacson. Let the reader be the judge: Dawkins declares that (Ein.) was very often annoyed by the suggestion that he was a theist. . . The biographer, on the contrary, says: Eins entire life was coherent when he refuted the accusation of being an atheist. There are people who say that God does not exist, he said to a friend. But what angers me most is that they quote my name to support these ideas (Isaacson, p. 399). "
"I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it." (Albert Einstein, 1954)
And of course "Evil" was not created by "God". THERE IS NO "GOD", DUMBASS!
Personal attacks don't make your case any stronger. 100 years from now this paradox will be solved. I suspect you'll be attending a BBQ. "The fool has said in his heart, there is no God . . . It is appointed to man once to die, and after that the judgment." (as stated by God) RE my honesty, there is a site titled "50 Nobel Laureates" that I do not quote because I don't agree that ALL were Christians in my understanding - however, in this case its OK - they were all anti-atheistic.
I've never stated that Einstein was a credible Christian. or belikeved in the God I know. I said he was a non-atheist intrigued with the person of "the Nazarene".
"Fanatical atheists he explained in a letter are like slaves who are still feeling the weight of their chains which they have thrown off after hard struggle. They are creatures who -in their grudge against traditional religion as the opium of the masses- cannot hear the music of the spheres (ib., p. 400)."
Your statement re atheists is pointless. One right scientist is of more value than the rest who are wrong. How many supported Piltdown Man? 150 years ago the majority supported spontaneous generation.
In any event, you are empirically wrong about religious scientists. One of the post graduate science fraternities did a study on the Church attendance of their members and their percentage was almost identical to the general population - 47% vs 48% ( Lee Stobel , The case for a Creator)
Research on this topic began with the eminent US psychologist James H. Leuba and his landmark survey of 1914. He found that 58% of 1,000 randomly selected US scientists expressed disbelief or doubt in the existence of God, and that this figure rose to near 70% among the 400 "greater" scientists within his sample. Leuba repeated his survey in somewhat different form 20 years later, and found that these percentages had increased to 67 and 85, respectively.
I love statistics, especially random ones. I can prove that 85% of people support homosexual marriage, or 5%, simply by changing where I ask the question. But at least you've done your homework and come up with something other that bland generalities. That's a good thing.
I'll see if I can find anything on it. I'm always sceptical of competing studies - eg what was the premise they were setting out to prove? Kinsey's gay study was a statistical joke engineered to prove his hypothesis. This one?
"Allen Rex Sandage, the greatest observational cosmologist in the world ... (at a major symposium on science and religion and the origin of the universe)" shocked the audience by sitting on the deist side. "He disclosed publicly that he had become a Christian at 50. ... The sudden emergence of time, matter, space and energy pointed to the need for some kind of transcendence. It was my science that drove me to the conclusion that the world is to complicated to be explained by science."
Then you give me an explanation for the "nothing" that became the big bang (assuming you accept that view). How did everything come from nothing? Now, that's a fairy tale unworthy of science. It matters not a whit how many scientists believe the emperors clothes are magnificent. Personal attacks do nothing to enhance your arguments!
"Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind. . . . In his maturity, Einstein defended a cosmic religiousness based in the presence of a superior rational power, revealed in the incomprehensible universe (Einstein biography)
I've been married almost 50 years, and my life would not be complete without my wife. A personal relationship with God is just as important to us both. If we enjoy each other so much, why shouldn't we enjoy our God? There's no negative in this!!
There you go, quote minning, again. That quote from Einstein makes alot more sense if you read the entire page, or his entire bio, if you have time. It is VERY clear he was not reffering to "religion" in a theistic sense.
And, btw, the negative to you, your wife, and the other 4 billion deluded, believing in a superstition is that belief in such falsehoods destroys inquiry. It makes the mind lazy, and more apt to accept the "God did it" answer, instead of finding out the real reason for things
I wasn't assuming he WAS talking about religion in the theistic sense, although it certainly could be.
Your God did it makes no sense - what possible rational can you use to support this?
It seems to me more relevant to inquire when you know the artist than to enquire of a stranger. Only a creationist can take all the discoveries in the universe and synthesize them. Evolutionists have so many loose ends that they use presume, maybe and perhaps as their main terms of reference.
Isn`t it amazing that when there`s no reasoned response that personal insults are used - not much on evidence; not much thought required.
The religion of evolution is less supportable than creation - both require assumptions and faith, both deal with man`s origins, both deal with his destiny, his home. Both are based on biases - the issue is which is the best bias to be biased by. If the creationists are right the atheists have a lot to worry about, if not, the creationists have lost nothing.
In 1996, we repeated Leuba's 1914 survey and reported our results in Nature[3]. We found little change from 1914 for American scientists generally, with 60.7% expressing disbelief or doubt. This year, we closely imitated the second phase of Leuba's 1914 survey to gauge belief among "greater" scientists, and find the rate of belief lower than ever — a mere 7% of respondents.
Leuba attributed the higher level of disbelief and doubt among "greater" scientists to their "superior knowledge.
Is this a quote with out quotations, or were you part of the research group as implied? This sounds a bit elitist to me, as well as unbelievable. And the secret here i think is the issue of "respondents" We know that most research and academic positions of eminence are closed to anyone of faith; I have a friend who publishes his creation work under a pen name because his teaching position would be in jeopardy.
And you know this how? How many of his books have you read? His academic background, his career as a law editor, his lifelong attempt to disprove Christianity - he was a pretty sharp guy. How many writing awards have you earned? Like Lew Wallace, Malcolm Muggeridge, and many others who set out to definitively disprove Christianity, he became a believer and wrote convincingly of his conclusion.
I love watching the rationalizing that the modern day Christian has to do,"one verse is literal"...the next is twisted horribly out of context,so it "all works out"....100% infallible.....ya
An example would be nice. The Bible contains history - that is to be taken literally, and archeology has been incredibly enriched by the detail in the Bible. Also prophecy. which will happen as predicted, but will only be evident once its happened. While not a science text, it is inerrant when it touches on the subject.
It also contains poetry (trees of the field clapping their hands) - neither in their culture or ours such is intended to be taken as fact. Still 100% infallible.
A couple of observations: this video is proof that God doesn't consider homosexuality an abomination. Secondly the vacuousness of Christian apologetics knows no bounds.
Yes I suppose this Video is not Uplifting the Old Covenant But the New. There Are 613 Commandments and I suppose we should enforce them follow them condem them. or we can pick or choose. Or Lift up Jesus and not the Law. Did Jesus and the Apostles go around condeming Adulters Prostitutes ? Or the Religous people who thought they could find life through the LAW ?
While they may not have condemned Adulterers, etc, they didn't condone such lifestyles either. The Bible says (1 Cor. 6:11) " such WERE some of you" - past tense. No suggestion of continuing . . .
We don't have to denigrate the law - we just don't have to keep it cause we're not Jews. The moral code of the OT isn't done away with, just the ceremonial code.
Did we watch the same video? God never changed his mind, and there's nothing in this video to suggest that. How did you arrive at that conclusion. And how can you term Christian apologetics "vacuous"? It appears to me that they've not only withstood the challenges of time, but of intellect and inflated egos.
This video series plainly demonstrates that the 19th century philosophers, upon which our current education system was built, is a moral and intellectual failure.
Hi happylada: This was a year ago and now I wouldn't comment on vids like this or argue w/Christian apologetics. (It's just not an interest for me anymore). But I will respond to your questions. The first speaker seemed very effeminate and this was shortly after the Ted Haggard incident. So that was a cheap shot and I apologize.
I do see Christian morality as relative even though apologists go thru contortions to explain why it isn't. From my perspective of not presupposing Christianity as true, apologetic arguments like these strike me as empty, vaccuous and silly. We obviously have different beginning views. Again I apologize for being flip.
Apology accepted on behalf of apologists everywhere ;-))
There is some appearance of relevance, but I think its accurate to say that on core issues there has never been any change since the 1st century. Truth isn't that fluid. In applying those principles, the issues to which they are applied changes constantly. The Bible has always supported personal freedom, but many Christians had or were slaves when it was the norm. So teaching that a slave was your equal may seem hypocritical.
LOl God is the source of truth and justice--
yet it didnt give a shit when the spanish inqustion tortured people in his name..
And God was cool with slavery too

the Einstein comment was about quantum mechanics not c btw

I think you're the one that missed the point. If Quantum physics depends on interlocking rules that make equations possible, it seems to point to a Designer. Randomness allows no such precision. If there was a designer, it is logical that he may have left some record of his design - and we call that the Bible. And Einstein, although Jewish, stated that the thing that was his highest goal was to know the man from Nazareth. Many other brilliant scientists have been driven to God by their science.

Interesting how you bring up Einstein. As he DID NOT believe in your God. This is well known, yet you characterize it otherwise. That is dishonest.
Interesting, also, that the vast majority of Nobel winning and other scientists are atheists.
judoyodan 2 years ago

Man, you are dense.

Personal attacks don't make your case any stronger. 100 years from now this paradox will be solved. I suspect you'll be attending a BBQ. "The fool has said in his heart, there is no God . . . It is appointed to man once to die, and after that the judgment." (as stated by God) RE my honesty, there is a site titled "50 Nobel Laureates" that I do not quote because I don't agree that ALL were Christians in my understanding - however, in this case its OK - they were all anti-atheistic.
happylada 2 years ago
I don't know why you morons continue to use Einstein as an example of a credible christian.
It is well known he was not in any way a christian. He did not believe in your "christian god". Period.
If you think he did, then you need to look up the difference between theism and deism.
judoyodan 2 years ago
I've never stated that Einstein was a credible Christian. or belikeved in the God I know. I said he was a non-atheist intrigued with the person of "the Nazarene".
"Fanatical atheists he explained in a letter are like slaves who are still feeling the weight of their chains which they have thrown off after hard struggle. They are creatures who -in their grudge against traditional religion as the opium of the masses- cannot hear the music of the spheres (ib., p. 400)."
happylada 2 years ago
Your statement re atheists is pointless. One right scientist is of more value than the rest who are wrong. How many supported Piltdown Man? 150 years ago the majority supported spontaneous generation.
In any event, you are empirically wrong about religious scientists. One of the post graduate science fraternities did a study on the Church attendance of their members and their percentage was almost identical to the general population - 47% vs 48% ( Lee Stobel , The case for a Creator)
happylada 2 years ago

This one?
happylada 2 years ago
The only "joke" here is a grown man believing in a sky daddy.

It was my science that drove me to the conclusion that the world is to complicated to be explained by science."
happylada 2 years ago
Then you give me an explanation for the "nothing" that became the big bang (assuming you accept that view). How did everything come from nothing? Now, that's a fairy tale unworthy of science. It matters not a whit how many scientists believe the emperors clothes are magnificent. Personal attacks do nothing to enhance your arguments!
happylada 2 years ago
lol...I love when you creatards "move the target" in an argument.
It's also ironic that your attempt to envoke the "first cause" argument regarding the big bang, also cancels the possibility of a "God".
Be my guest.

There's no negative in this!!
happylada 2 years ago
There you go, quote minning, again. That quote from Einstein makes alot more sense if you read the entire page, or his entire bio, if you have time. It is VERY clear he was not reffering to "religion" in a theistic sense.
And, btw, the negative to you, your wife, and the other 4 billion deluded, believing in a superstition is that belief in such falsehoods destroys inquiry. It makes the mind lazy, and more apt to accept the "God did it" answer, instead of finding out the real reason for things
judoyodan 2 years ago
I wasn't assuming he WAS talking about religion in the theistic sense, although it certainly could be.
Your God did it makes no sense - what possible rational can you use to support this?
It seems to me more relevant to inquire when you know the artist than to enquire of a stranger. Only a creationist can take all the discoveries in the universe and synthesize them. Evolutionists have so many loose ends that they use presume, maybe and perhaps as their main terms of reference.
happylada 2 years ago
Sorry, happylada,I didn't realize you were a fucking idiot.
judoyodan 2 years ago

Leuba attributed the higher level of disbelief and doubt among "greater" scientists to their "superior knowledge.
judoyodan 2 years ago
Is this a quote with out quotations, or were you part of the research group as implied? This sounds a bit elitist to me, as well as unbelievable. And the secret here i think is the issue of "respondents" We know that most research and academic positions of eminence are closed to anyone of faith; I have a friend who publishes his creation work under a pen name because his teaching position would be in jeopardy.
happylada 2 years ago
Try to google
"James H. Leuba and his landmark survey of 1914"
That should pull it up.
judoyodan 2 years ago
And, btw, Lee "Strobel" is nothing more than a preacher working under the guise of legitimacy. He is a joke.
judoyodan 2 years ago
And you know this how? How many of his books have you read? His academic background, his career as a law editor, his lifelong attempt to disprove Christianity - he was a pretty sharp guy. How many writing awards have you earned? Like Lew Wallace, Malcolm Muggeridge, and many others who set out to definitively disprove Christianity, he became a believer and wrote convincingly of his conclusion.

I love watching the rationalizing that the modern day Christian has to do,"one verse is literal"...the next is twisted horribly out of context,so it "all works out"....100% infallible.....ya

you should check out the vid clip i made on mark of the Beast 666

An example would be nice. The Bible contains history - that is to be taken literally, and archeology has been incredibly enriched by the detail in the Bible. Also prophecy. which will happen as predicted, but will only be evident once its happened. While not a science text, it is inerrant when it touches on the subject.
It also contains poetry (trees of the field clapping their hands) - neither in their culture or ours such is intended to be taken as fact. Still 100% infallible.

A couple of observations: this video is proof that God doesn't consider homosexuality an abomination. Secondly the vacuousness of Christian apologetics knows no bounds.
owheydusoapsk 4 years ago 2
Yes I suppose this Video is not Uplifting the Old Covenant But the New. There Are 613 Commandments and I suppose we should enforce them follow them condem them. or we can pick or choose. Or Lift up Jesus and not the Law. Did Jesus and the Apostles go around condeming Adulters Prostitutes ? Or the Religous people who thought they could find life through the LAW ?
SKYSPLASH 4 years ago
While they may not have condemned Adulterers, etc, they didn't condone such lifestyles either. The Bible says (1 Cor. 6:11) " such WERE some of you" - past tense. No suggestion of continuing . . .
We don't have to denigrate the law - we just don't have to keep it cause we're not Jews. The moral code of the OT isn't done away with, just the ceremonial code.
happylada 2 years ago
Did we watch the same video? God never changed his mind, and there's nothing in this video to suggest that. How did you arrive at that conclusion. And how can you term Christian apologetics "vacuous"? It appears to me that they've not only withstood the challenges of time, but of intellect and inflated egos.
This video series plainly demonstrates that the 19th century philosophers, upon which our current education system was built, is a moral and intellectual failure.
happylada 2 years ago
Hi happylada: This was a year ago and now I wouldn't comment on vids like this or argue w/Christian apologetics. (It's just not an interest for me anymore). But I will respond to your questions. The first speaker seemed very effeminate and this was shortly after the Ted Haggard incident. So that was a cheap shot and I apologize.
owheydusoapsk 2 years ago
I do see Christian morality as relative even though apologists go thru contortions to explain why it isn't. From my perspective of not presupposing Christianity as true, apologetic arguments like these strike me as empty, vaccuous and silly. We obviously have different beginning views. Again I apologize for being flip.
owheydusoapsk 2 years ago
Apology accepted on behalf of apologists everywhere ;-))
There is some appearance of relevance, but I think its accurate to say that on core issues there has never been any change since the 1st century. Truth isn't that fluid. In applying those principles, the issues to which they are applied changes constantly. The Bible has always supported personal freedom, but many Christians had or were slaves when it was the norm. So teaching that a slave was your equal may seem hypocritical.
