General Tibbets formed the 509th Composite Group an air wing formed to drop atomic munitions. We established doctrine of our policy to use Nuclear weapons. We have the policy, we used it and now we will continue the policy. It is not policy established by the US military but by our civilian leadership, so quit whining about our use of this weapon.

What is it with people to immature to understand the war, the sort of people who would agree to a war and the mass killings of innocents but as soon as the war comes to them, they cower behind someone and don't want a war. I hate little brats who show off about their nations army saying for example " we'd whoop your ass "even though all they'd do is sit on their fat ass if a war came. People will never understand until they live through war oh and shut the fuck up with the grudges on countries.
Truly invading the main island of japan would have obliterated the entire country instead of just 2 cities. Not to mention ruined countless more lives, american AND japanese in much greater numbers. The atom bombs represent a climax in warfighting for humanity, the moment the world realized that wars could never ever be fought over the same things, just look now, the US wars since are almost all guerilla conflicts fighting terrorism or drug lords or whatever, no huge wars between royal armies
I don't like how when historians are talking about WW2 or the cold war they use the term Russian. I lived during the time of the USSR and im Russian and i can tell you that not all of the people living the USSR were Russian
The bomb brought WWII to a screeching halt - it ended the mass killing in Asia - from the slaughter in Burma and China to the starvation in Indochina - the A bomb put an end to all of that.
It's hard for people who did not live through those times to comprehend what WAR was like - even in the relative safety of America.
It's pretty much accepted that if Truman had not dropped the bomb and we had to invade, Truman would have been impeached. The Manhattan Project consumed a HUGE % of our resources, and it did exactly what it was supposed to do.
The trouble with the bomb is that it CREATED the whole spy/secrets industry, and yes, the CIA. There was no need before it.
@historyvideos101 the Central Intelligence Agency was created AFTER world war 2 in 1947 as a part of the national defense re-organization act and in response to the cold war with the soviet empire and its kgb. as such, the cia had NO involvement in the manhattan project and neither did its predecessor the office of strategic services which operated as an intelligence gathering and covert operations entity primarily in asia against the militant japanese.
@Dukeoftruth no the trouble with the bomb was that it killed hundreds of thousands of civilians, created an arms race that almost brought all of mankind to an end and it set a precedent that it is ok to slaughter civilian populations in order to bring about a victory. After all, it was not a coincidence that the bombs were not used on military targets and could have well made the same impact. Rather they were dropped squarely in civilian populations...to kill and terrorize.
@bigbossman999 Droping the bomb saved countless lifes that would have been lost from a extended war between the us and japan. Also, far more civs were being killed by all sides in the war from such things as fire bombing than the atomic bomb. If for some reason you didn't know all sides took to killing civs in order to try and discourage the other sides soldiers, they thought that by killing their family's and destroying their homes they would give up.
@bigbossman999 Throughout history civs have been killed in order to lower the other sides morale. All the nations of course cover that up though, its a great strategy but it looks bad for them so you wont see it in any written history.
@teslagod2003 well i compared them on the effects to innocents if you read it again. the fundamental effect and targets are the same. i also differentiated them on basis of the perpitrator, one being a state or government and other anextremist organization. i would have expected more restrained and civilized behaviour from a democratic state.
Poland was a lost cause from the get-go. No way the Soviets were going to let it outside their sphere of influence after the Brits used Poland for a proxy war against the Soviets in 1919-1921.
they should have tested it at their own soil n people to know more about that bomb, the americans were just all fucking gays and cry babies thats why they need that bomb,tsk,tsk,tsk...
politically, they dont really wanna destroy japan, instead they just wanted to capture it and make tons of wealth and riches from them...
@flyhead2 -that's a goddamn stupid comment: why the hell do you say that Eden was a consumate liar? What he says in this interview is nothing more or less than the plain truth.
I doubt that we'll ever know the truth about WWII, but it certainly isn't the way it is portayed in the media. Eden was a notarious liar, the Suez crisis perhaps being the pinnacle of deceit.
You really do need to have some fun on a saturday. Have a nice spliff, or perhaps just a wank by candlelight with some Mantovani playing in the background.
@DrZenith and just how did you knew its the truth and he didnt lie?americans are full of liars and corrupt people, you are indeed the most evil nation and people in the world !
@historyvideos101 yes,i knew whats the life outside,im just sick and tired of the many bs n lies that many politicians made, where us is the mastermind of many crimes in the world...
i just wish,i would live to see the day that US get annihilated, destroyed n razed to the ground....
@teslagod2003 stop hating!! USA #1. if we wanted to take Japan we could have. we just didnt want to lose millions..plain and simple. i tell u what, if we had to take Japan without the bomb, we were going to eviscerate and destroy Japan..NO HOLDS BARRED!
it is not a song. It is just music. A song has text set to music. This is music for music's sake. it needs nothing more northing less to be important in and of its own right. peace.
I remember seeing on history channel that the Western side of berlin would load tons of candies in planes and drop it off to the kids on the other side... i thought it was pretty chill that they were caring like that on kids even if there's some political and diplomatic issues between the super powers...
fdr yeah what a guy he was all he wanted was his 33 degree mason acception instead of really caring for america instead of getting it into nato. ww2 was just so the nations would except world goverment hmm yeah its called nato funny after nato the war was over lol
look, forget all the conspiracy, if the american didn't drop the damn bomb, everyone today who has the bomb would think he is dominant and use it, it would be the nuclear war, end of the world
firstly russia is responsible for so much pain in the world......the land they took (with the west help) after the second world war......the americans also asked them to negotiate with the japanese with a view to surrendering......the russians would not help( they only cared for their own interests)....a nuclear bomb dropped on russia would have sent a message to all other countries to watch out!.........the japanese have always been decent people.......(by the way.....i'm ex-british army)
third world war...millions more die...but stop communism when its at its weakest. Russia and china become democracies. stop the shit in its track. I give it Dawaihawks a thumbs up
america shouldnt be dropping anything on anyone america needs to take care of its own ass for once but these goddamn bankers are the ones who start these wars both sides are funded by the same people you know the warburgs morgans rothchilds they love making a country poor and forcing it into war history repeats and i see america as germany once was. are leaders are close to dictators as you can get false promises high taxes yeah bailout the bankers some more america hahhahahahaha
I see, then the good ol' USA would have been happy to sacrifice millions of it's own troops to beat the Axis..... i don't think so... they provided grain and Studebakers.... I tell you - a friend of mine is russian- her grandparents had to eat dirt to survive. The truth. Stalin was a despot but I think the Russian people have a lot to be proud of.
Oh, and with regard to your earlier comments- the Japanese actually attacked the USSR early in the war, the Siberian troops routed them forcing a Japanese withdrawl. Part of the reason for the Germans making such good progress early in the war was the need for hundreds of thousands of their best troops to be stationed in the east. Russia owed Japan nothing.
oh!....have you never heard of the eastern bloc. how did that come about......who is responsible.....when you talk to poles and czech's who've ran away from their land.....you'll understand.......i'll go back to the beginning......america should have used the bomb on russia not japan!
Oh... hold on a minute.... I can, virtually, guarantee I've talked to more eastern block people than you- probably hundreds... because of my job... sure it wasn't great for some people.... but the general concensus seems to be that the worse that you could say about it was that it was just fairly boring... and life was actually better in many ways ... unless you were ambitious...
@dawaihawks if they did that, they would seal the fate of freeworld,lol...
that would make the red army go berserk and start hitting the very weak western europe,it would be easy victory for stalin,he has tons of troops in berlin and the allies wont be able to beat them...
CableGuy96...you are so full of BS ! NOBODY "mass murdered" millions of Iraqis...Try blaming who has killed the most civilians in Iraq...the terrorists.
Terrorist : noun, a person who engages in terrorism, a member of a group not constituted with formal military status of a recognized government.
There, now you have been educated...and calling me "kid" ? I'm twice your age, sonny boy. Guess you must be one of those Muslims of Australia...now that's brainwashing !
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Wow really? We fucking saved the Iraqi's from gassing and oppression. Iraq has only gone to the dogs because insurgents are there and we were originally going to be out of there when the government there built itself back up. Plus the insurgents only were there because we were there my "pal".
Given the crimes of the Japanese military, they were very lucky to only get two atomic bombs. Had the Chinese developed the bomb they would of put an end to the Japanese people.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
4 million died in the bomb droppings. Most of whom were nonmilitary. Justification? I think not. It's true that America might have had to expend huge resources to win conventionally but the math doesn't add up to it saving the most life. Think.
look Americans didn't have the money and resources to be able to do that. Civilians wanted the war ended asap. If we had invaded that would have caused much more wide scale destruction all over Japan not just one spot. So think about it the U.S. would have lost 1,000,000+ men amd Japan would have lost probably 3-6 times more + men
Then think about the Civilian losses of Japan 5mil+maybe? I think you need to redo the math.
They attacked America first, you think Americans gave a flying fuck about who dies? You don't want it to happen then don't attack a country that's going to fuck you 10 times over.
yup ur right look at 911 one of the most powerfull countries in the world oh really well 8 people with box cutters put that right in its place or did it nope it was planned to happen just like pearl harbor they knew that place was gonna get hit just like the gulf of tonkin event to get us into vietnam they whole system is rigged
@MDSJR67 well if you justify the A- bombing of ww2 you will surely agree with the 9/11 attacks. well irrespective of excuses behind such acts of murdering innocents and ruining the lives of millions. i knwo you will come up with a million excuses to say 9 /11 and the bombing of japan are different, you cannot deny that fundamentally they are and result in the same atrocity. one was commited by a state and other by an organization. you are a sick twisted genocidal abomination.
@sushanalone there's a huge diffirence in a-bomb in ww2 and 9/11,in ww2 a-bomb is used to submit a weakening enemy,in 9/11,it was plain stupidity that US gov didnt do anything to stop it,prolly bec it was really intended to be done, for "greater good"...
just explain how the heck that such a great powerful nation allow such terrorism to be completed, without doing anything to stop it...
@teslagod2003 well i compared them on the effects to innocents if you read it again. the fundamental effect and targets are the same. at the same time i also differentiated them on basis of the perpitrator, one being a state or government and other a prvate extremist organization. i would have expected more restrained and civilized behaviour from a democratic state.

pokermaniac0978: Many Americans gave their life so you can have the freedom to make dumb coments. Perhaps the real coward is you that hides behind a computer screen.
So how many Nazis & SS officers are hanging out with Harry? How about Hitler? Are the Japanese soldiers? The Germans killed six million Jews and 20 million Russians the Japanese slaughtered as many as 30 million Filipinos, Malays, Vietnamese, Cambodians, Indonesians and Burmese, at least 23 million of them ethnic Chinese
It's interesting how everyone sees hell as a place for those who they disagree with. Is there a balance sheet for going to hell?
"I would not call it a humanitarian act - saving the lives of the Japanese people was not a motivation of the day. "
but IT WAS THE RESULT neverthe less
the motivation was to save American lives.
we didnt rebuild the japanese economy with the marshall plan nad hold free elections as a complete act ofhuman kindness either, we did it to counter the soviet world, but the result also mainly benifitted the Japanesse people who had never lived better
A straw man argument is an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent's position.[1] To "attack a straw man" is to create the illusion of having refuted a proposition by substituting a superficially similar proposition (the "straw man"), and refuting it, without ever having actually refuted the original position
you question my motives or americas motives, motivations are not relevant again a logical fallacy to attack our motivation, the result
The Nirvana fallacy is the logical error of comparing actual things with unrealistic, idealized alternatives. It can also refer to the tendency to assume that there is a perfect solution to a particular problem.
Example: "If we go on the Highway 95 at four in the morning we will get to our destination exactly on time because there will be NO traffic whatsoever."
Appeal to motive is a pattern of argument which consists in challenging a thesis by calling into question the motives of its proposer. a special case of the ad hominem circumstantial argument. , this type of argument may be a logical fallacy.
A common feature of appeals to motive is that only the possibility of a motive is shown, without showing the motive actually existed or, if the motive did exist, that the motive played a role in forming the argument and its conclusion.
"billyysands" Yeah, Wikipedia is really good for looking up general information - but it's a good idea to put quotation marks around the quote and cite the source.
Was Oliver Cromwell a "humanitarian" for "civilizing" Ireland?
You need to learn to put yourself in the other person's shoes before you start making dumb-ass remarks like the dropping of atomic bombs being a humanitarian act. Once you go down the ends justifying the means, you can rationalize anything as "right" - Like Iraq.
I thought that his name would get your attention...
To he and the English of the day, what they were doing was the right thing - as I say, it's all in the perspective.
Take count of how many people in Japan believe that dropping the bombs was a humanitarian act. It will likely be a lower percentage than those in Ireland view OC's acts the same.
britian made roman catholicism illegal in ireland and enslaved or murdered 40%
of the irish population kicked the irish off thier land
did the bobm wipe out 40% of the japanese no it killed less people than the dresden or hamburg firebombing did
and it SAVED civilian lived no hisatorian idpsutes an invasion would have killed millions not 100 000 s we let them keep their emperor we helped rebuild buddist temples we helped rebuild their economy
even legalized the communist party! we held free elections permited them helped them creat the worlds most dynamic economy, the british and cromwell
catholics could not even vote own land in their won country for 150 years after cromwell,1 million irish starved to death in 1849 due to rotten potatos
so the british ut them on boats and sent them to new york
britian deliberaly kept ireland economically backwards for 700 years
the cetic tiger only occured in 1990 when amewrican software
companies started to use ireland as a base for its european operations in the EU because of low corporate tax rates and an educated skilled worforce due to the irish workforce no thank to britain
thats a very bad analogy
after we defeated japan we did everything imaginable to make up for
the destruction we wrought
Cromwell used roman catholic churches to stable his horses
again we let them keep their emporor and did nothing to disrespect their culture or religion
i make no apologies for my statement and will now repeat it
dropping that bobm was an act of mercy
Cromwell was a monster a deranged protestant taliban as bad as the Roman Catholic Tomás de Torquemada
Cromwell was credited with liberating Britians jews and creating an embrianic constittuiona monarchy, but you study irish history, no bigger bastards than the
English were to the Irish, i just never understood why
you miserable hun. murderer? you lot gave us hitler and the nazis! where in gods anme to you get off telling anyone they are a murderer you rotten kraut!
sometimes it takes a bit of evil to defeat evil and that is what we did
we paid you back for rotterdam coventry, aushwitz with dresden
hiroshima was for pearl harbor and more so for the poor people of ananking and the philipines the death march of Bataan
Contrary to all recorded history on the outbreak of WW2 I read with much interest and belly laughs at the proposal that Poland attacked the Soviet Union first and also initially joined forces with the Nazi's to fight them. Very amusing theory, but will author kindly state sources as keen to read up on such a hidden piece of historical importance. Thanks.
This was the best documentary on the subject. The timing was perfect in a sense because some of the major players were still alive. For example Albert Speer was still alive. If this documentary was made in the 80's or 90's most of these people would have been dead
Alger Hiss is an inspired choice for the interview. He's a Soviet spy, but so were many of the people around Roosevelt and Churchill. And, everyone knows it -- by showing Hiss, you are showing the voice of Soviet sympathizers in the West.
Truman was a total outsider, and this segment just shows how fortunate everyone was to have him become president when he did.
I dissagree with his statement that Hitler's decission to invade poland was fateful, If Hitler had stopped there and not invaded Russia then he probibly would have won the war. Dont you's agree.
Russia Invaded one end of Poland as Germany was invading the other. Russia fought a Germany that was already weakened by The British Empire, Which included, Amung others, The United Kingdom, Australia,Canada, New Zealand, India, Africa, Etc. Britain and France fought for Democracy, Russia fought for it's own defence.
Like Fuck I'm Wrong. Soviat troops Crossed the Polish Border Claiming that they where on there way to fight the Germans. Then they slaughtered the Polish Army. Years later Polish solders where uncovered, there hands and legs having been tied, bullet holes in the back of there necks, by retreating German troops. At the time Russia blamed the Nazis, but in the 90's Russia eventuly owned up to it.
yes i know that i am not talking about the danzig corridor. iam saying listen carefully now poland... POLAND POLAND POLAND POLAND attacked SOVIET UNION SOVIET UNION FIRST FIRST FIRST FIRST.
"On 9/1/39, Adolf Hitler launched his invasion of Poland and World War II broke out. France, Britain, and the countries of the Commonwealth declared war on Germany but provided little military support to Poland other than a small French attack into the Saarland. On 9/17/39, after signing an armistice with Japan, the Soviets launched their own invasion of Poland. By early October, the campaign ended with division of Poland among Germany, the Soviet Union, Lithuania and Slovakia..."
Wikipedia is not always correct. Russia invaded at the same time as Germany. No historian will argue that point. Britain was poorly organised and Didn't have time to mount a full Scale Defence of Poland. The Soviets had already signed there own armstice with Germany before then, which is what give Hitler the Confidence to invade in the First Place.
Stalin knew his Hitler, and allowed him to have the Jews in in the russian sphere of influence in return for more land. Hitler of course agreed, knowing that he would eventuly turn on Stalin and take back the Land.
be glad we didn't we went back home in 1919 and you damned euros were back at it in 20 years, your not grwon up enough not to be supervised, basically goes for the rest of the world too.
Actually. He's right, Communism (mainly Russia) is an expansionistic power. They expanded into the middle east during the cold war and communist China expanded down into the pacific.
The US has done the same kind of expansion, except instead of invading in an physical way they just promote rebellion within the working class of a country and undermine the government that way. All government is corrupt.
Australia is one of the AsiaPacific's richest democracies. Successive Labor and Liberal governments have deregulated financial and labor markets, floated the currency, and reduced trade barriers over the past three decades. Australia is now in its 17th year of uninterrupted economic expansion. The country is an internationally competitive producer of services, technologies, and high-value-added manufactured goods, and its export sector remains heavily focused on mining and agriculture
"creemed" the commies? Like in Vietnam? - killing a million or so before pulling out?
Judging by other comments you have posted, I know that in the cold war your wet dream would likely have been a stand up face to face with the USSR - no matter how many millions were killed along the way, but get a grip!
The USSR collapsed of it's own weight.
Go back and watch "Red Dawn" again and put the Iraq/Iran/___ in place of the US kids - then you will perhaps understand a bit more on how the wold is.
when the cold war was going on i was against it i was alternately a libetarian anrchist or socialist, being you and stupid dont supposed anything about me
dont set up a straw man arguement to my motives, the cold war had to be fought
and like most american it was fought reluctantly i DID NOT want one person to die,i was upset about Allende overthrow to be honest, but i'm glad it all happened
There is, to date, no system of modern government that solves more problems them having it creates. Communism is flawed because all humanity is driven by greed. Democracy is flawed because no-one believes that everyone is equal. And Nationalism is flawed because no nationalist nation can ever learn from its mistakes for admission of failure destroys the tenants of undisputed infallibility the government is based upon.
No government is ever perfect. One of the chief virtues of a democracy, however, is that its defects are always visible and under democratic processes can be pointed out and corrected." ~ Harry Truman
Billy, you do realize that the patriotic fervor inherent in your comments completely undermines your beliefs? You talk like a Nationalist or Communist; "The state is right, blah blah blah - believe all that you are told. Uncle Sam wants YOU!"
Communism, Nationalism AND our faux Democratic countries.
America is a shoddy nation run by the corrupt and influential NOT those in elected positions of power. Our free markets DICTATE the rules of our world, not the men we elect to Govern it.
I am Australian and of Welsh decent, no 'red' or commie' blood in me.
Now everyone, lets feed the troll.
Communism is BAD Nationalism is BAD.
All forms of government (including our representation of Democracy) create more problems than they fix Humanity is inherently greedy. The freedom of speech that you have so lovingly displayed today would be under threat no matter what form of state governed over you. Now go watch your Fox news and climb back into whatever primordial ooze you climbed out of
i wish to retract my ill chosen words and apologize to any chinese who read them.
i should hold my temper and realize
not to make racist statements, and quite honeslty i should know better than to think some asian would be stupid or rude enough to make such idiotic statements. so i retract them. you are a moron
the spoiled product of a sytem that has done so well providing material wealth and individual freedom you no longer appreciate or deserve it.you make me think of that song by
you are the spoiled product of a democracy that has been a victim of its own success allowing a spoiled little sh*t like you to sit there and denegrate
the freedom its given you
"No government is ever perfect. One of the chief virtues of a democracy, however, is that its defects are always visible and under democratic processes can be pointed out and corrected." ~ Harry Truman
Under democracy one party always devotes its chief energies to trying to prove that the other party is unfit to rule - and both commonly succeed, and are right. H. L. Mencken
Why is this true? Because
Men are more easily governed through their vices than through their virtues. Napoleon Bonaparte
No government is ever perfect. One of the chief virtues of a democracy, however, is that its defects are always visible and under democratic processes can be pointed out and corrected." ~ Harry Truman
Thats like a communist quoting Chairmen Mao. There is a SLIGHT conflict of interest. Now stop hiding behind other peoples words and come up with some of your own beyond "Oh you commie bastard.... "
I liked harry truman he was the guy that droped the a bobm and sent mac artheur to kick ass in korea see thats my kind of democratic givem hell harry a man of the common people a plain speaking new deal democrat who was not afraid to kick some ass the world would be in better shape if we and more like him.
Didn't Mac Arthur get pushed all the way to the southern tip of South Korea? Also, wasn't he removed from office for proposing to use the Atomic Bomb on China? From what I know, the United States were three generations ahead in military technology, yet they were pushed back and didn't win the war.
Truman's choice of dropping the Atomic Bomb was unnecessary and inhuman. Why drop it on civilians? Instead, why didn't they drop it on the military?
MacArthur oversaw the Occupation of Japan from 1945 to 1951. Although criticized for protecting Emperor Hirohito and the imperial family from prosecution for war crimes, MacArthur is credited with implementing far-reaching democratic reforms in that country. He led the United Nations Command forces defending South Korea against the North Korean invasion from 1950 to 1951.
In late 1945, Allied military commissions in various cities of the Orient tried 4,000 Japanese officers for war crimes. About 3,000 were given prison terms and 920 executed; the charges included the Rape of Nanking, the Bataan Death March, and the sack of Manila. The trial in Manila of General Yamashita Tomoyuki, Japanese commander in the Philippines from 1944, was under MacArthur's direction and has been particularly criticized.
In April 1951, MacArthur's habitual disregard of his superiors[ led to a crisis. He sent a letter to Representative Joe Martin (R-Massachusetts), the House Minority Leader, disagreeing with President Truman's policy of limiting the Korean war to avoid a larger war with China. He also sent an ultimatum to the Chinese Army which destroyed President Truman's cease-fire efforts.
This, and similar letters and statements, were seen by Truman as a violation of the American constitutional principle that military commanders are subordinate to civilian leadership, and usurpation of the President's authority to make foreign policy.
If USA were to fight China in a full scale war, it would be devastating. China just had 2 civil wars and was invaded in World War all within 50 years time, they had nothing to lose. USA on the other hand, had everything to lose. In addition, Soviet Union would have intervened if USA attacked China, being threatened because it is the closest neighbor. Besides violating the principle of being a subordinate under the president, it was logical that Mac Arthur's tactics was overboard and suicidal.
If we used the bomb, we'd be killing innocent people. Also, sooner or later there will be countries willing to use the bomb on us. If we are heartless to enemies, they will be heartless to us. The excessive use of the A-Bomb will lose everyone's favor, nobody to stand up for us, no democracy will vote against throwing the bomb at us, instead they will say good riddance and feel as if we deserve it.
Lets put it this way. We fucked up Iraq for real liable reason. Just like Germany fucked up other countries, just like Japan, just like China standing up against us. Do we have the right to bomb innocent citizens (like those in China)? NO. Just like Iraqis should NOT Bomb innocent Americans for what the government did to their innocent civilians. Its not about being a wimp, it is about civilians and government. Unless you give Iraq the right to nuke the shit out of us... there's no difference
iraq is like vietnam. should we have fought the vietnam war or invaded iraq.debatable pros and cons to each tactical move.BUT we should have fought the cold war..we SHOULD fight islamic terrorism as we should have fought the nazis.. evil florishes when good men stand by and do nothing if men do nothng they are not good they are weak they are cowards. it is necessarry to fight evil and tyranny in the world..
True. But doesn't mean we should always nuke. if we nuked every country we went to war with, we are creating ourselves as the evil and tyranny of the world.

The Atomic Bomb plans were German, its weird to think a bomb from the axis could end up causing the surrender of a stubborn ally

I was suddenly reminded of a program called "The Last Mission" which covers the final bombing run on Tokyo in ww2.
And more importantly, the Kyujou Incident, which I had not started researching until I had seen that program.
I was obsessed with the series of odd coincidences that truly made Japan's surrender possible.
But I'll be damned if I can find that program again. I had some history lover friends who were curious on it when I mentioned it.

The bomb brought WWII to a screeching halt - it ended the mass killing in Asia - from the slaughter in Burma and China to the starvation in Indochina - the A bomb put an end to all of that.
Dukeoftruth 1 year ago 7
@Dukeoftruth
There was no need before it.
historyvideos101 1 year ago 2
@historyvideos101 the Central Intelligence Agency was created AFTER world war 2 in 1947 as a part of the national defense re-organization act and in response to the cold war with the soviet empire and its kgb. as such, the cia had NO involvement in the manhattan project and neither did its predecessor the office of strategic services which operated as an intelligence gathering and covert operations entity primarily in asia against the militant japanese.
SocratesTheGadfly 1 year ago
@Dukeoftruth no the trouble with the bomb was that it killed hundreds of thousands of civilians, created an arms race that almost brought all of mankind to an end and it set a precedent that it is ok to slaughter civilian populations in order to bring about a victory. After all, it was not a coincidence that the bombs were not used on military targets and could have well made the same impact. Rather they were dropped squarely in civilian populations...to kill and terrorize.
bigbossman999 1 year ago
@bigbossman999 Droping the bomb saved countless lifes that would have been lost from a extended war between the us and japan. Also, far more civs were being killed by all sides in the war from such things as fire bombing than the atomic bomb. If for some reason you didn't know all sides took to killing civs in order to try and discourage the other sides soldiers, they thought that by killing their family's and destroying their homes they would give up.
nighthade1 1 year ago
@bigbossman999 Throughout history civs have been killed in order to lower the other sides morale. All the nations of course cover that up though, its a great strategy but it looks bad for them so you wont see it in any written history.

4 million died in the bomb droppings. Most of whom were nonmilitary. Justification? I think not. It's true that America might have had to expend huge resources to win conventionally but the math doesn't add up to it saving the most life. Think.
killitwithfire6 2 years ago
look Americans didn't have the money and resources to be able to do that.

A straw man argument is an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent's position.[1] To "attack a straw man" is to create the illusion of having refuted a proposition by substituting a superficially similar proposition (the "straw man"), and refuting it, without ever having actually refuted the original position
you question my motives or americas motives, motivations are not relevant again a logical fallacy to attack our motivation, the result
was the issue
billyysands 2 years ago
The Nirvana fallacy is the logical error of comparing actual things with unrealistic, idealized alternatives. It can also refer to the tendency to assume that there is a perfect solution to a particular problem.
Example: "If we go on the Highway 95 at four in the morning we will get to our destination exactly on time because there will be NO traffic whatsoever."
billyysands 2 years ago
Appeal to motive is a pattern of argument which consists in challenging a thesis by calling into question the motives of its proposer. a special case of the ad hominem circumstantial argument. , this type of argument may be a logical fallacy.
A common feature of appeals to motive is that only the possibility of a motive is shown, without showing the motive actually existed or, if the motive did exist, that the motive played a role in forming the argument and its conclusion.

You need to learn to put yourself in the other person's shoes before you start making dumb-ass remarks like the dropping of atomic bombs being a humanitarian act. Once you go down the ends justifying the means, you can rationalize anything as "right" - Like Iraq.

And Nationalism is flawed because no nationalist nation can ever learn from its mistakes for admission of failure destroys the tenants of undisputed infallibility the government is based upon.

you cant actually be argueing that communism or facism is no worse or better than democracy, your too pathetic to talk to.

again by a policy of containment we weakened communsim in the worlds of the great Ronald Reagan"Communism did not fall it was PUSHED"
and again it was a "perverse" act of kindness by killing 10 000 of thousands we saved ten of millions
for every communist we killed for every innocent bystander we killed we saved ten one hundred one thousand
but honestly? it would have been fine with me if no one had died and we had peacefull co existed then
but if we had communism would have
won

The facts:
Under democracy one party always devotes its chief energies to trying to prove that the other party is unfit to rule - and both commonly succeed, and are right. H. L. Mencken
Why is this true? Because
Men are more easily governed through their vices than through their virtues. Napoleon Bonaparte

Roosevelt was truly a great man, I agree.

On April 11, 1951 MacArthur was removed from command by President Harry S. Truman for publicly disagreeing with Truman's Korean War Policy.

WE HAD THE BOMB
billyysands 2 years ago
If we used the bomb, we'd be killing innocent people. Also, sooner or later there will be countries willing to use the bomb on us. If we are heartless to enemies, they will be heartless to us. The excessive use of the A-Bomb will lose everyone's favor, nobody to stand up for us, no democracy will vote against throwing the bomb at us, instead they will say good riddance and feel as if we deserve it.

bombed
billyysands 2 years ago
Lets put it this way. We fucked up Iraq for real liable reason. Just like Germany fucked up other countries, just like Japan, just like China standing up against us. Do we have the right to bomb innocent citizens (like those in China)? NO. Just like Iraqis should NOT Bomb innocent Americans for what the government did to their innocent civilians. Its not about being a wimp, it is about civilians and government. Unless you give Iraq the right to nuke the shit out of us... there's no difference

iraq is like vietnam. should we have fought the vietnam war or invaded iraq.debatable pros and cons to each tactical move.BUT we should have fought the cold war..we SHOULD fight islamic terrorism as we should have fought the nazis.. evil florishes when good men stand by and do nothing if men do nothng they are not good they are weak they are cowards. it is necessarry to fight evil and tyranny in the world..
our own conduct is not always correct
but in a democracy
it comes out
billyysands 2 years ago
True. But doesn't mean we should always nuke. if we nuked every country we went to war with, we are creating ourselves as the evil and tyranny of the world.
