@shinjubo09 I agree. I'm torn between anger at the series' English translation being cancelled, and anger at Funimation for doing such a bad job translating.

The names are okay-sounding, but ruin the wordplay in the series, as many episodes revolve around word puzzles. Changing the setting from Japan to America, and pretending like the characters speak English, was a disaster-- many cases rely on Japanese words the characters 'just so happen to know because they took a class one time.' Sucks.

Hey Case Closed fans, the series can still come back. Buy the DVD seasons, if we hit a quota they'll bring it back.

At the very least it would be ideal to get the movies back-- Funimation did a great job on the movies, they barely Americanized them. The series might be better off just in Japanese because the setting is so butchered. But if you are a fan, please do buy the DVDs, I just did!

@sisgirl123 I am not sure it was actually ratings that were a problem. The viewership was low, and therefore sales were too low. This is the 6th most popular series in Japan, and even France has translated farther than the US-- rather the problems was with the accessibility to the series. Having CAse Closed at 12am or 4am on Adult Swim was not appropriate, and you can't expect to get more viewers or even get fans to buy every DVD just to see the series. They also Americanized it to death.

They have to localize it for it to get more attention than just otaku though. Watching someone of the episodes, it's amazing that Funi was able to come up with some sort of workable English translation for some of the episodes. If they did zero localization, then the show would be a sure flop. If they do proper translations, make it understandable, then DC will be popular.

The manga was good... so far... i got up to the present. I like the drawings later in the manga, the ones at the start are not as good. U guys are saying that in the anime they are better in the start and get wierd later. I kinda want it to be over so I can know how it all ends, but when it is over I'll be really sad and wish it hadn't ended. Although it doesn't seem like its gonna end any time soon, since they havn't really found out much...

Well Funimation dubbed 130 episodes of Case Closed... the only problem is that they focused on the cases instead of most of the awesome character development... they skipped alot

I always thought the reason it had low ratings on Adult Swim was because of the demographic issue. The subject of murder may be too mature for kids, but in Japan its mostly targeted to younger teens. So basically, it gets the short end of the stick in the US since its "too mature" for Cartoon Network-like channels but not mature enough to keep older peoples interest.

@EmosnakeProductions I think it still could have had a decent shot on Adult Swim-- I'm sure it would reach a similar audience as Inuyasha and FMA. But 12am and 4am Central was not good a good playtime at all. If it were Saturday at 9, 9:30, or 10pm, this series might have actually had a shot.

Also, I think they Americanized it to make it 'acceptable' for children, which is a mistake because the audience isn't children and the result is it loses some of the charm and interest.
