@shinjubo09 I agree. I'm torn between anger at the series' English translation being cancelled, and anger at Funimation for doing such a bad job translating.
The names are okay-sounding, but ruin the wordplay in the series, as many episodes revolve around word puzzles. Changing the setting from Japan to America, and pretending like the characters speak English, was a disaster-- many cases rely on Japanese words the characters 'just so happen to know because they took a class one time.' Sucks.
The voice-overs proved to be a mixed bag for Carlo Santos, who reviewed the first DVD release of Case Closed for Anime News Network; he said that while the main characters sounded like "real people", the secondary ones "[came] off as caricatures". that's how it is the important people did not like it
In the United States, the dubbed series faced several negative reactions toward its changes to localize the content for North American audiences. Jeffrey Harris of IGN found it pointless to change the names of the characters, and Anime News Network's Carl Kimlinger said that the changes of certain Japanese cultural references rendered several parts of the mysteries and their investigation illogical
Hey Case Closed fans, the series can still come back. Buy the DVD seasons, if we hit a quota they'll bring it back.
At the very least it would be ideal to get the movies back-- Funimation did a great job on the movies, they barely Americanized them. The series might be better off just in Japanese because the setting is so butchered. But if you are a fan, please do buy the DVDs, I just did!
those who love the english version listen up the english did so bad in ratings they stopped dubbing it everyone that mattered said it sucked so they trashed it sorry that's how it goes I prefer the japanese so it's no real lose to me not that I'm saying the english sucked it's just not my favored version the english was pretty darn good except for the name changes witch bugged me because I was so used to the original names
@sisgirl123 I am not sure it was actually ratings that were a problem. The viewership was low, and therefore sales were too low. This is the 6th most popular series in Japan, and even France has translated farther than the US-- rather the problems was with the accessibility to the series. Having CAse Closed at 12am or 4am on Adult Swim was not appropriate, and you can't expect to get more viewers or even get fans to buy every DVD just to see the series. They also Americanized it to death.
They have to localize it for it to get more attention than just otaku though. Watching someone of the episodes, it's amazing that Funi was able to come up with some sort of workable English translation for some of the episodes. If they did zero localization, then the show would be a sure flop. If they do proper translations, make it understandable, then DC will be popular.
One night 2parents went out to dinner and the babysitter called them and asked if she could cover the clown statue in the kids room. The parents told her to get the kids out of the house and call the cops because they didn't have a clown statue in the kids room. It was actually a killer that escaped from jail. Post this on ten other videos.
The manga was good... so far... i got up to the present. I like the drawings later in the manga, the ones at the start are not as good. U guys are saying that in the anime they are better in the start and get wierd later. I kinda want it to be over so I can know how it all ends, but when it is over I'll be really sad and wish it hadn't ended. Although it doesn't seem like its gonna end any time soon, since they havn't really found out much...

Well Funimation dubbed 130 episodes of Case Closed... the only problem is that they focused on the cases instead of most of the awesome character development... they skipped alot
Episode 130 is SUPPOSED to be the episode where Ai Habara joins in but instead it's just a murder mystery case... D:
my god...i don't know why but everytime i see this vid, 0:40~0:43 (the part younger conan is running), i think of peter griffin (family guy) running...
I always thought the reason it had low ratings on Adult Swim was because of the demographic issue. The subject of murder may be too mature for kids, but in Japan its mostly targeted to younger teens. So basically, it gets the short end of the stick in the US since its "too mature" for Cartoon Network-like channels but not mature enough to keep older peoples interest.
@EmosnakeProductions I think it still could have had a decent shot on Adult Swim-- I'm sure it would reach a similar audience as Inuyasha and FMA. But 12am and 4am Central was not good a good playtime at all. If it were Saturday at 9, 9:30, or 10pm, this series might have actually had a shot.
Also, I think they Americanized it to make it 'acceptable' for children, which is a mistake because the audience isn't children and the result is it loses some of the charm and interest.
@narutorocks6287 in my opinion i like the english openings even though i watch the anime in japanese , the english version , i can actually really understand what is says insteas the translation (my opinion) ^^
@narutorocks6287 I wonder if they get requests from a million fans they might start again. These sort of series should be dubbed, not the pokemon crap which becomes worse after the first season.
@narutorocks6287 You do know why they canceled it, right? It's because of the lack of people watching it, yet they still goes on in Japan for 15 years now.
@freakfisher555 Yeah, modern animators do not spend as much time on their art. The style has changes from lots of small strokes to fewer bolder ones. It is a bit of a pity really.

My brother criticizes this opening when it says 'century', then '100 years', but then I told him,
"If you think you can write this song better and perform it for the people who make this show, then feel free to do so."
It shut him right up :)
