Pretty cool, but I think the SS American Star is more interesting, its sitting in very shallow water and after 15 years of the waves pounding against it and its almost completely collapsed under the water now. The stern collapsed in only 2 years I believe, since then the bow has been slowly deteriorating.
I do agree with you, as the SS American Star had a lot more history behind it and was a more interesting ship to look at, especially the way in which the ship broke up.
The interesting thing about the Riverdance was the way in which she was broken up, with only three or four hours between tides it was quite a challenge for the demolition guys.
Glad you liked it, it was interesting to see how they removed 6,000 tonnes of ship from the beach in under six months, a credit to PGC demolition guys.
Of all the viedo and photos I have looked up about this ship, I have to say that this is the best one. It was not slow and told the story we have all whanted to hear, where did M/V Riverdance go.
Well put together mate. I was wondering how they were going to get rid of it but watching your vid shows all. Alot of dedication from you, you did a good job in filming.
Well done, truly amazing how the Riverdance was taken away piece by piece, probably months in the dismantling yet you did it in under 7 minutes. You seemed to capture the sadness while the workers went about their way, a piece of history in the making. A touch of excitment for the locals now all gone and just a memory. Now just back to being a beach again.
Glad you liked the video myfeeling4you. It took some 7 months to remove the ship, but the same spot now has a new attraction, a cofferdam. The cofferdam has been constructed there to help repair the pipe damaged by the Riverdance.
Is there any footage of what it looks like now with this cofferdam in place?
We had something similar here in NSW a year or two ago when a large ship ran aground up near Newcastle, it was amazing how the political circus got to work fast, probably the same there I guess.
Once again great effort, am glad you shared this with all.

This is the industrial version of scavenging vultures :)

@Vlakpage It was very sad to see the way in which the ship was ripped apart.

That truck driver at 5:16 sure got blasted in his face by that steam or smoke before he jumped back into the truck cab!

The guy did move pretty quick when the leaking fire extinguishing cylinder was falling his way.

@Pacerace100 There is a Romanian ship that has been in the water since th 60's and it is still standing. Look for "epava costinesti". You'll see it.

What are the steaming, what was that???
seefahrer1882 2 years ago
The steam was coming from the fire extinguishing cylinders that were onboard the boat. These were pierced when diggers were removing them.
