  • Mine is seriously not working.

All I get is "It works", but I want to host files on my IP, yet I only get "It works".

  • @saguy98 Well you need to set your folder location in the .htconf file or go to the htdocs folder, this file is located in the apache folder. if you want to set the conf file look at my video Setting up apache. about 2 mins into the video I show you how to setup a file and setting the conf file. remember to refresh or reload the page as some web browsers save webpages.

  • this still doesn't solve the problem, when i try to access the page from another computer, the browser prompts :

    The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

have you got any other idea?

  • @skateriosh the only time I have seen this error was when I was on Hotmail. have you tryed another browser? I take it you are useing Firefox try IE to test this. it could be that there is a bug in your browser on that computer. have you tryed another computer?

  • @juthawong When you have practically no voice, wouldn’t you use it?

  • when i double click on any of my connections on my laptop it says connecting... then it says connection failed! WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON....

  • OMG I LOVE YOU!!!!! you fixed my problem and for that thank you ^_^

  • I am using my local IP address, and still this video didn't solve my problem. When I run apache, it shows nothing.

  • when you say nothing do you mean there is just a wite screen? or do you get a error page? if so what error.

if the screen is wite then check in the apache's Documentroot that index.html actualy contains data like HELLO or sumthing.

Have you installed a difrent type of webserver on the computer like IIS, or some other program that uses port 80?

  • @thesouthcamera White screen. I think I know what the problem is, do I have to be connected to the router using a LAN cable?

  • As long as there is a connection to the router there should not be a problem, I use apache on a laptop and the service works over the wireless connection. It sounds like there is a blank index file or there is another service on port 80, it might be an idea to try changing the port number in apache config file to 81, look for listen and ServerName.

  • @thesouthcamera I have been using my laptop and wireless. Hmm, lemme look in the config file again.

  • If you do change the port remember to add :81 to the end of the IP or localhost, eg

    localhost:81

    132.22.234.43:81

  • Great video, spot on. However I'm running Vista on this machine so instead of going to the local network you need to go straight to the firewall settings from control panel, same thing then applies for the port 80 forwarding, etc, as you describe. Sorted out my Apache intranet connection issue in 5 minutes, thanks :)

  • hi mine doesn't work any of them above, i cannot view the page, and after installing it give an error saying "cold not bind to address :80"...any suggestion?

  • there is probably another progrram useing port 80. stop this program from running, or ether during the install or in the conf file tell apache to use port 81 or 8080.

  • worked great for me, thanks :)

  • Thanks

  • Great tutorials, i have just a question, why i can't connect when im typing localhost, but i can connect with my ip?

  • If you are saying you are at the computer that apache is installed on then your hosts file could have been altered (this can happen with some antivirus and firewall applications).

But if you are on a different computer then you will have to type in your computers IP address anyway.

  • hey hi!!well im new in this of using apache..i make all steps and the apche works real good..the problem is that the user from other internet company provider cant see my page so i think apache is not working for WAN in other words it can be seen from internet..please sorry about my inglish i have lost practice!!ill be so thankful if you can help me

  • Nope, it didn'twork for me..I can get my localhost to work but that's it.. I've tried port 80, 8000... none work.. I have added the port in my firewall, changed the port forwarding in my linksys router and still nothing. Any other suggestions?

  • What do you mean "I can get my localhost to work but that's it.."? is that on the computer you are using to connect to the apache server? Are you typing in the right IP address? The address you need will be your local address in your network. NOT your public IP address.

  • Click on add port.

    Call it port 80.

In port number type in 80.

    Then click on OK.

    Then close all the windows.

Now on your other computer, open a web browser, and then type in your servers IP address. You should now get the page on the server.

Basically on the computer that is running apache (Server), we are unblocking the port called 80. On some systems mainly XP home we found that port 80 was always blocked. Even though localhost worked, computers connecting to it would get an connection error.

  • thanks, it worked for me, although it takes some time to load, but it works! thakns for the tip

  • did not work

  • o dear.

  • Actually your ISP might also block port 80 on Residential Plans (like mine... damit I hate telus stupid company).

  • THANK YOU MAN!!!!!

  • Genious.

    thank you so much!!

  • i cant get my server online. i have a non-wireless motorolla router help please :)

  • see if your router supports DMZ fording or Port fording. if it does and you have set your router right and it is still not working your fire wall could be blocking it or your ISP is blocking port 80 and you might need to change the port apache uses.

  • unless you have a DNS server on your network you can't use a DNS name on your server within the local network. but in " Make Your Local Apache Web Server Live To The Internet" you can use a DNS name to access your server outside the local network.

  • it worked!!!!!!!!! thanks for the tip.

  • works on the host but not the client eh?

hmm sounds like a port forwarding issue to me

  • what are you trying to say?

port forwarding only works outside the local network not inside unless you have a very strange and complacated setup.

  • ok no sercuirty just the windows now when i install apache i get this black cmd telling me theres an error whats with that?

  • what does it say? is it when you click on start in the apache monitor?

  • i fixed it!! YAY!! ok now to get it on the inter net...im using a linksys router and zonealarm i got zonealarm and figured that out. and on the linksys router i used my dysdns domain name and opened port 80 through 81 well fowarded. so should it work on the internet now? also i opened the port on the reaglur windows for port 80.

  • yes it should work. remember if you type in your DNS inside your local network it will most likely come up with your routers page, it will only work out side your local network eg a friends house. get a friend to try it. or use your mobile phone (but cost is the worst when doing it that way).

  • ehh sorry i switched now i have nortan 360 lol can you help now?

  • sorry i do not have nortan to try out. if you look in the nortan control panel you might find a systems port option. look around the nortan website or do a Google search for port settings. sorry i cant help any more than this.

  • hey i have zonealarm and im trying to get port 80 to work, but it hasnt yet now i did what this video said but it didn't work. can you help?

  • port 8080 is a better port to use.

  • Yes but leaving port 80 open is bad for your pc and can leave you up for attacks. Also most ISPs block port 80.

  • i suggest you use a better fire wall if you are having hacks thrue port 80. i run a computer running apache server with port 80 (apache web server) and port 21 (FTP). i have never found any signs of hacking from this port. the only time i was hacked was when the server did not have a fire wall because it was in the test stage. Tip NEVER DEPEND ON THE WINDOWS FIRE WALL. INSTALL ANOTHER FIRE WALL & VIRUS SCANNER TO BE SAFE.

  • Yeah you are right. But most ISPs block port 80. You can try but it may not work. Also if you are on a router you will need to portfoward 80. If that doesn't work then try to use 8080.

  • OK there may be ISPs that block port 80. Luckily all of my ISPs did not block port 80. your point has been noted for the next video. OK have fun making more of your videos.

  • worked great. thanks a ton
