  • Your vid went viral on Kosovo

  • I really want to configure my macbook pro to SSD, but very expensive, 512 GB is like $1200, and other than quick app launch & bootup, what does SSD offer? Damn, apple got very expensive internal component, like it's RAM also expensive, just wanna know why.

  • 1,100$ for something that slow? Fucken ridiculous...

  • I just said

For 1200 dollars ssd, i can get an imac entry model or something like that

That's my unique complain about ssd

    Great video!

  • name of song pls !! my body is bouncing to it yeah....

  • @RaymondElMaid The name of the Song is Beat 3 By ratatat? I think it's beat 3, It's on their Album 9 beats.

  • The boot up for the ssd is still SLOW

  • SSD is definitely a great deal faster but I'm not spending £800 more for a 500GB drive :L

  • please do some more videos on this ssd

  • can somebody tell me why this macbook has that gray frame arround the display?

i usually see a black frame...

really would like to know.. peace!

  • @lgrocvideos its the HD anti glare screen it comes with a silver boarder

  • @lgrocvideos thats an option for antiglare display from apple, black is glossy one. i rather use an anti-glare protector to save the sleeky black bezel

  • Very good presentation. It helps to understand the differences between these two technologies....

I would like to see a test with a heavy EXCEL spread sheet or other mathematical calculation program that need to read and write from the hard drive.

  • 34 seconds for an ssd!!!!!! i have a 250gb 5400 rpm and it starts up in 27 seconds!!, your should start up in like 14-15 seconds

  • or should I say, kitties?

  • @theopusfuller, kamaboko1 & johnmacward: bite your tongue next time you think about commenting on a video you know nothing about. If you do your research, SSD's are far superior to HDD's for more reasons than start-up times. Do your homework, little kiddies.

  • You should do a clean install of OS X, it probably places the OS files differently on the SSD for faster bootup. I know Windows allegedly does the same.

  • You are truly blessed to have that laptop. did you buy the SSD from apple or installed it yourself?

  • My P4 hackintosh running snow leopard starts up faster than both of those.

  • does your macbook pro recognize the 500 GB SSD and not read it only as 256 GB?

  • So roughly 34 seconds for an SSD startup and 47 seconds for a hard disk startup. It's not that quick for such a refined OS.

  • @johnmacward Yeah but i had a lot of data on their. Did you watch the end of the video. Plus not all about boot times i guess.

  • Apart from the apps at the end (and possibly the way they interact with the OS at startup) that's a pretty normal machine. For one thing fragmentation isn't a big deal with Unix filesystems (Or apple's filesystem) and possibly the OS is installed on a different partition from the /home directory. Also I notice they create a very simple (and neat) startup bootsplash (the logo and spinny thing) which should utilise resources better. 47 seconds isn't great, but it's not the worst out there either.

  • @mitch625 did u select the boot disk ? that shaved about 30 seconds of my imac i7

  • whats this amazing music?

    i like it

  • @bergaminivideos

it's by ratatat. the song's called "two" and it's off their cd called "9 beats"

  • my macbook started in 40 sec lol

  • WATS THE SONG?

  • Kool I have a

    >2.8GHz

    >6GB RAM (Installed my self)

    >128GB SSD (I'v got a WD 500GB passport)

    >Anti-glare

    >17"

  • i have those bose speakers they are beasty! And i am getting a 17 inch macbook pro

  • The 512 GB drive is ~$1800 on Amazon... so buyer beware. That said, my 256GB SSD is nearly full... As to the speed - my 17" MBP with the CPU upgrade and 8GB mem - boots in ~15 seconds.

  • Thanks a lot for uploading this video. I am seriously considering the upgrade. Do you have any statistics on battery consumption? How much longer does the battery last with the SSD vs 7200 RPM drive?

    Thanks again.

    PC

  • Why are peole so fascinated with boot and shutoff times? God, that's like comparing how fast two different cars startup and turn off. Totally useless performance information. I rarely turn my computer off, and that includes laptops.

  • Because people asked for this video... Thats why

  • did you go to a store where they do apple stuff? and then get them to install it?

  • whered you get the 512 SSD From Mitch?

  • @mitch625

    mate where'd you get a 512GB SSD????

  • @mitch625

you've only got about 40GB woth of stuff on your mac, why did you not just get a 128GB SSD. I did its kick ass and if I need any extra room I have a WD 500GB passport =)

  • cause 512GB RULES!

  • i get what u r saying, but people watch them just to se how fast the computer is. for example, i make movies in final cut, and i always have to render my vids. and if your computer is slow, rendering takes forever.

  • @kamaboko1 I agree, but I boot up is one of the easiest way to demonstrate the speed difference of an SSD and Hard Drive.

  • @kamaboko1 One man's trash is another man's treasure.

  • I think the HDD is a lot better for the time being than the SDD

$400 more to get a SDD with 1/2 the memory of a HDD

saving 20 seconds or less for $400 bucks isnt really worth it for me

but if you have the money then what the hell XD

  • That thing hauls!

  • even my netbook is a lot faster

  • most netbooks have an SSD drive and boot up windows xp. That should make boot up faster. But in the end you're still running a crappy netbook...

  • well I only use it to go on the net and listen to music but I get your point (btw, I also have a gaming pc and an HTPC :)

  • nice thats way fast

  • OMG... 500 SSD @@ You are so rich~

    I can't even afford 256GB =.="

PS: I choose 128GB from Apple Store... Pretty good

Startup just abut 15 sec lol

  • He's only a student

  • are you trying yo make yourself look cool?

500gb ssd havent got out yet

    atleast not for laptop

  • :O is there no password protection on a mac?

  • of course there is, you can set a password if you want

  • are you retarded? yes there is password protection

  • rich ASS...

  • i think the ultradrive is one of the best ones out in the market

  • Nice!

  • is saving 20 seconds worth an extra couple hundred dollars for those upgrades. Hmmm. NO!

  • Its not just for boot time. Overall performance is improved

  • yeah. you tell 'em!

  • @mitch625 Then show the real world test. Booting up and down is not really when I've to work with the Adobe MasterSuite etc. In fact I give two hoots about start up and shut down times.. You don't spend your whole day starting and shutting down your machine. Show some application performance tests that at least show the speed of those ssd drives!

  • @mitch625 Obviously TheOpusFuller doesn't understand the fact that applications are almost instant to start up! Even larger applications like Photoshop...

  • @TheOpusFuller your a poor and dumb ass cunt. nothing else need to be said.

  • @TheOpusFuller time is money in the business world my friend, is saving an extra 20 second for everything u do worth it over the long run. YES

  • nice

  • How the hell did you afford a 17" MacBook Pro AND a 500GB SSD? That's a shit ton of money... Are you whoring yourself on the street? lol

  • thanks for this informative video ,nice channel :)

  • Please Please Please Please Please Please do a performance video of this! Like a video of how fast it is. A multitasking video, opening a lot of apps. Tell us if video editing is faster. If you do this, I will be a very happy person. Plus this should be interesting to others as well.

  • Great video :)

  • Basically both are kindof slow :P

  • Mitch you have one of those 60 second google ads, good job. your channel must be getting a lot of views for youtube to do that.

  • gd vid. i still havnt got a macbook pro but im getting the next generation whenever that comes out. Are SSD's worth the extra cash? ive heard there dead speedy but then i hear all these horror stories about them completely failing or gradually getting really slow. Is there any truth in these?

  • you have twooooo?

  • its the same one at different times idiot

  • where in this video does it say that

  • Id dosent have to say it because its obvious there at the same place

one at day one at night

  • not so obvious other wise i wouldnt have asked

  • It is obvious ur just stupid

  • Good video, glad you managed to get it uploaded in the end!

  • can i ask how you managed to get the old design 17" mac book pro because they dont make these any more. The new ones have the black frame round the screen i have one. this is what they use to look like.

  • Hi,

This is the new design. i ordered the matte screen version.

    Regards

  • wow fucking youtube now does ad videos... as if those ad banners werent annoying enuf

  • They need to make money somehow...

  • @haterallday Install YouTube5 HTML5 and the ads will disappear :)

  • I'd really like too see an upgrade video because there is no door on the macbook pro to easily change the hard drive. :D

  • Great video!

  • what music :D

  • That drive cost more than my Mac. I'm there as soon as they come down......way down.

  • was that the same laptop but with different drives installed? i didn't know they even made 512gb SSD's

  • SSDs are crazy! Can't wait for til the day comes when they're affordable.

  • WOW 500GB thats 1OOO K

  • where did u get a 500Gig SSD?????

  • That's what I'M wondering!

  • my 13" uMBP with an 80gb x25m kicks your times ass! I boot in 16 seconds.

  • Yeah, but you have a 80 gb hard drive...

  • your point?

  • -_- well our little genius let me explain. hes showing that solid state drive is faster then HDD= Hard Disk Drive

  • I'd rather wait 10 extra seconds to boot up and have 420 extra gbs.

  • Matte displays look like crap. Especially with the Unibody MacBook Pros.

  • You've used the old macbook pro's and new macbook pro's matte displays side by side? the new matte displays are much better than the old ones.

  • No they don't. Matte displays are mainly for designers who don't want to be bothered by seeing their face and every object behind them reflecting off the screen. And LED matte displays look pretty nice.

  • Meh. They spoil the whole design.

And true designers/photographer wouldn't depend on just a 15/17-inch screen, now, would they? It's the laptop what counts, not just the screen.

Need a bigger, better, matte screen? Get a external one. But then again, that's only my point of view.

  • I don't get it. My new Macbook Pro 17 3.06ghz 500gb 7200rpm boots up in exactly 28.4 seconds every time. Very very fast, and shuts down in 3 seconds. Why do you need that?

  • Final Cut Pro required a scratch disk so this faster ssd is ideal for real performing work. Im not bothered about the boot as its not exactly going to get the best score with the amount of apps ect on there.

Im more interested in the real performance gain when working.

    Regards

  • My PC boots up and I can open Firefox within like 23 seconds. Windows 7 has made it faster somehow.

Used to be like a minute.

  • Is the hard drive what makes the computer go fast?

    Thank you

  • Umm, sort of. Speed in a computer is mostly the proocessor and ram. The hard drive makes things like this go really fast though.

  • The hard drive is just one factor which can speed up boot time, solid state drives are able to gather the resources to boot faster then the normal hard drive disk, although they are incredibly more expensive.

  • Thank you :)

  • Yeah, I'd rather stick with my 256gb SSD '-'

    This is overkill!!

  • my computer boots up in like 10 seconds

    macbook pro 15"

  • That thing costs 1600 dollars, I really hope that they sent that to you, you could buy a high end 13 inch macbook pro for that price

  • 256 is the biggest you can buy...

  • wow. how much is a 512gb ssd? lol

  • very professional...but my MBP 15 5400 is faster than both

  • Nice video. My MBP starts faster than both of them though, with a 7200rpm 500gb drive from Apple.

  • theres absolutely no possible way your mbp starts faster than a ssd. also. the one on left was a 500gb 7200rpm hard drive from apple.

  • you can even make it faster. Download "snow leopard cache cleaner" and go to optimize tab. Select both "optimize ram" and "optimize files" (just these two). and run it. you will see a big difference. Don' run "maintain" or deep clean cache. for some reason they make ssd slow.

  • song?

  • Young Buck - Shorty Wanna Ride (RATATAT REMIX)

  • Awesome comparison vid

  • how do you get so much money, your'e a student??

  • carbon cop cloner... NO MORE COPS.

  • awesome speed of that ssd, i must ask, even though i have seen some in a few apple stores, is that a specific macbookpro model that has the silver screen surround rather than the black or what?

  • Yeah,

When you come to order your laptop (only available on the 15" & 17") you have the option to have a matte screen which by default means you have to have the silver bezel. Was this what you meant :)

    Regards

  • its the antiglare screen. if u get it w/ the antiglare screen it comes w/ a silver bevel

  • ah nice thanks for letting me know

  • Wow, the SSD is worth more than the laptop.

  • Awesome vid! I love the music choice btw :D

  • oh i envy you on the SSD....

btw, u missed a "Y" on the CCC credit

    ;-)

  • Oh crap :)

Just my luck, i doubt i'll be able to add an annotation to cover that up ha.

  • Correct me if Im wrong, but is that particular SSD not £1500?

  • ssd 512 Gb how does it much?

  • dude! those things are like $1700!!! did you buy that?!?!?

  • y do u need so many macs. i would do anything for one

  • why do i know this song!? whats it from?

  • I would like to know what it is as well.

  • what are solid state drives exactly? :o

  • It's basically a huge flash drive....like the USB memory sticks you plug in to transfer and store files....only these bad boys are 500gb....

  • ohh i see :D thanks for the reply

are they the same size as a 2gb flash drive? :P

  • 500GB SSD!?!

  • HAHAH, i love your username lol

  • @mitch625

dude why do you never answer to anyones comments??

  • i love your videos mate

  • were did you get it

  • sweet

  • Wow thats awesome! I want solid state drive!

  • can you put a solid state drive in a 15 inch mbp?

  • yeah

  • Any laptop bro that supports a 2.5 inch HDD/SSD. Which is like 99.9% I think. If I'm wrong, someone correct me please.

  • Nice Video :D 5*.
