man, exports are such good drums. i love the way my kit feels and sounds...i'm just not comfortable on anything else, no matter how much i tweak it, it's just not the same
HI BrokenSession, Pearl Export drums are made from poplar, which is a composite of soft woods. It's a cheap way to make drums, and hence why Exports were the biggest selling drums on the market for many years.
Pearl have stopped making the export kits now as there are many major drum manafacturers now bringing out maple and birch kits with very low price tags, and Pearl can no longer sell poplar shells in a market where you can buy better even cheaper.
Earlier this year, I bought a set of Sonor maple shells which run circles around my Pearls in sound quality. I have both kits, so I can easily judge. I'll put up a couple of vids soon of my Sonors.
Remember too, the sound quality is not that good because I recorded using just the small camera mic. Either kit sounds awesome under proper mics. I did some recording a couple of months back, and the Pearls sounded sensational. But then so did the Sonors. It's all in the mics and the tuning.
I have the same ELX kit!...Im looking for a 8x7 tom....if anyone has one for sale plz feel free and drop me a email...will pay top dollar!...thx!
