  • god i love the maresleg im glad sombody else know what the hell im talking about have you ever watched the magnifacent 7 the tv series one of the guys has one if you have netflicks you can watch the whole series its worth watching

  • hey even ghost rider movie jhonny blaze has one

  • @TheZeratul191 The gun used in Ghost Rider is an cut down 1887 lever action shotgun like the one used in Terminator 2 (I know because I have one) Technically not a Mares Leg.

  • cool gun, cool vid,if i get one i probably wont have the balls to flip, cock and shoot,my hats off to you

  • Tallahassee in Zombieland had one as well.

  • @vdelrio999 Yep, I know; he's in the video....

  • @a56buster Sorry, I didn't wait till the video finished before I saw you got it, I couldn't retract comment. Thank you for your patience.

  • @vdelrio999 It's okay; thank you and also to everyone that watches and all the kind comments I receive as well.

  • you missed one rutger hauer in wanted dead or alive as josh randells grandson had his rifle in his office in a showcase

  • @bubba2974 Did not miss it; I just don't acknowledge that very bad movie : ) As I said before this is a brief history and I have missed a few movies that I have come to find after this videos was made. One such that I just saw the other day is when Will Smith picked up a Mare's Leg for a moment and cocked it in "Wild Wild West".

  • @a56buster I personally liked it but that is beside the point just didnt know if you had seen it or not lol :).

  • Epic!! I've been searching for a .44 mag for my 44th birthday this year. Found it. Btw, loved the "don't make me cock it again" segment..lol.

  • Just picked up the Ranch Hand in 45 colt. I don't think I have the nerve to flip cock with live ammo. Blanks though. But, I tip my hat to you sir. As one old western fan to another.

  • @Noeland I tried it many times empty an with dummy loads before I did the live round....NOT SOMETHING I RECOMMEND! The biggest danger is it slipping from your hand; there is no danger of it firing until it is fully cocked and by that time it is in the firing position. I have read so much through the years that this was a Hollywood stunt and could not be done with out modifications. So I had to see for myself. When practicing I did have it jam on occasion but it does that when cocked normally.

  • That's what I call a stocking stuffer. i know what I want for christmas this year.

  • Catlow was based on a Louis Lamour book and starred Yul Bryner & Richard Crenna . Fun movie to watch.

  • It was also used in Brisco County Jr. by a female bounty hunter...

  • @inluvwithsara I have the complete series of Brisco on DVD so I going to have to find that now. Wikipedia says that Lord Bowler used one but he carried a saw off shot gun which I do not consider a Mar's Leg. I appreciated everyone telling me of other place they have seen the gun; as it says in the description it is a brief history not a complete one : )

  • Check out these two Westerns from the 70's: Catlow(1971) -bad guy Leonard Nimoy(!) packs a Mare's Laig & Boss Nigger(1975)- a cool blaxploitation oater with Fred Williamson kicking ass with a Mare's Laig. Well worth tracking these two ML classics down.

  • @Zakkariah47 I never heard of Catlow so thanks for the mention. Boss (as it's called now) did not come to my attention until after I made this video. I have yet to see it because just like the other movie you mention it's not available for streaming. One day I may go back to getting DVD's from netflix and watch them, but for now I'll just have to wait. I have thought about redoing this video to include more rare clip of the gun in movies, I had no idea it would be watch even this much.

  • Bravo sir.......... Great Video and Great Rifle. thanks for the memories.

  • You're able to spin-cock a live round WITHOUT a spring-loaded plunger (to prevent the bullet from dropping onto the ground)??

  • I really enjoyed this video.

  • I share your sentiment, a great tribute to man and machine, thank you ever so much for posting; I'm in the market for the Rossi circuit judge revolver 410 & 45 LC.

  • excellent video! well done! and thanks for sharing!

  • I just got a Rossi ranch hand the other day in .357. Can't wait to shoot it this weekend. I am in the younger generation and loved Zombie Land and old Woody Harilson. But Steve McQueen is THE legend. Not all youngsters are all about zombies and techno music.

  • @itsamemario333 Good to hear.....

  • Thanks for this vid! It was informative and I learned something new. I'm considering the Ranch Hand and research found this vid.

  • Nice. The King of Cool always makes it look good.

  • great video.. beautuful gun. loved Wanted Dead or Alive and Loved Serenity and Firefly.

  • I always associated it with the Old West. Beautiful gun!

  • Excellent video! I just picked up the Henry Mare's Leg in .22, and I can't wait to shoot it!

  • Nice video! Now I have to watch wanted dead or alive now! :) I watched them old westerns with my dad. Wanted dead or alive is in my top three, right with The Rifleman and Have Gun Will Travel.

  • is that a Rossi Ranch Hand ?

  • @theSTAR70 No; It's a Puma Bounty Hunter.

  • @a56buster

do you think the Puma or Rossi lever pistols are adequate for urban home dense ?

  • @theSTAR70 I think the Rossi is a good gun an cost less than the Puma. I like the Puma and went with it because it had the tear drop lever like one of the guns used in the show and the case color an wood finish are very well done. Since I was looking at it from a collectors stand point those things were important to me. Any gun that will shoot is good for home defence. I have a blow back bb gun that looks good enough to make the average home invader pee his pants : )

  • @a56buster

    Excellent !

I like the Puma and Rossi lever pistols because the don't have the Hi Point "black gun" look that gets the cops all excited.

  • Yep nobody looked more sexy or could handle the mare leg like Mr. Steve McQueen A.K.A. Josh Randall!!! NOBODY!!!!!!

  • Very funny Vid! Love the little spoof western and accent.

  • @gunnut2k1 Thanks

  • I think John Wayne did something like that.

  • @1339LARS John Wayne had an 1892 Winchester with a large loop lever that he used in a lot of his westerns starting with Stagecoach; but I never saw him use one cut down into a Mare's Leg. That Idea came from the creator of Wanted Dead or Alive.

  • I think the mare's leg is great and I plan on buying one finally in a couple weeks once the license comes in... I plan on getting the rossi in .357

I love Wanted Dead Or Alive, and once I get a mare's leg I plan on learning every way I can use it like Steve did... greatest handler of all time

I think in many ways the mare's leg is better than a sawed off shotgun in many ways

Also by the recoil I' guessing .44 mag for you

  • @zillamaster2000 Your right it is a 44 mag. I think the Rossi is a good gun. I went with the puma because of the tear drop shape of the lever. I’ve heard that Steve design the tear drop lever after using the “D” shaped because he could cock it quicker with the small opening near the front. All the tricks and spin cocking looks cool but the gun is not light and it’s not as easy as it looks. Just as a disclaimer I would not recommend doing it with a live load it can easily slip from your hand.

  • @a56buster I heard/read the same thing, I would love to get the puma version or even by a 1892 and have it cut down so it is even more authentic but those two options are outside of my budget

  • @zillamaster2000 I know; for years I looked at the J.B. Custom version and thought one day. So I put a little money aside over the years thinking someday I will treat myself. I’ve had people tell me that could not see paying that much for a gun. But these same people will have twice that amount of money tied up in one gun with all the accessories they buy for it. For me it was just a collector’s item and a trip down memory lane...

  • @a56buster Amen to that, once I get it I MIGHT have a gunsmith smooth the lever but that's it. For a mare's leg the best thing you can do is leave it as is (except the lever cause that just makes it even better especially when you want to flip it)

  • cool video. i enjoyed it
