Audi actually started the advertising war. And secondly BMW were never "the company they used to be". They're relatively new compared to Mercedes. BMW never had the prestige they have now. They were considered an average manufacturer. I know for a fact circa late seventies through to eightees they weren't to be measured against prestigious manufacturers like MB, Jaguar and even Audi to a certain extent. So there new image wasn't intended it has been earned.

I am a huge BMW fan, and i agree that this ad is lame. i also agree that it is unfair to compare models of separate generations. comparing the 2010 s4 to the 2009 335i also seems unfair. it took them almost 3 years and its hardly the same (it is slightly better than the 335i but cost a whole lot more). more fair of a comparison will be the 335is. and u have to admit that the rs5 is going to really unfair compared to the m3 considering it is higher displacement w/ twin turbo.

Just from personal experience as well. I am not particularly an Audi fan and even considered the new BMW Z4 as a possible option for my next car. However, I'm excited about the things going on with Audi, especially since they've planned $10.5 billion dollars in R&D through 2012. Audi sure has been stepping up the competition recently and no doubt BMW feels threatened.
