  • Thanks for this! I've just finished following your instructions and doing mine- it's not as neat as yours but it works and it's brill to be able to flick it out. Thank you :)

  • @votesaxon07 Can you do this modification without losing the red button at the bottom? I really want to keep it, but I want the darn thing to sonic when it's extended.

  • @xDWhite4295x yeah as you can see in the video you can glue the red button back on again - it wont work but it will still be there!

  • i saw some duct tape on the battery part and it wasnt in the vid what is that duct tape there for?

  • @CplDAF3 it basically makes the top section not fall back into the handle when extended and makes the lower button a lot more sensitive! Forgot to mention that bit, sorry!

  • He rubbed the super glue.... WITH HIS HANDS....

  • Rusty old Horrible Nail..lol

  • crappy glue my ass i can't get this fucking ring off

  • is there a way that you can just do the mod where you can press the button when the emitter is extended?

  • @ConservativeBrony97

This is what I just did. I did the screwdriver drill step without taking anything apart or out. I just removed the emitter half and used a small screwdriver (the size used to open battery compartment) into the spot he said to (just below the x in the handle "stitching" You will have to drill through the black handle and a small piece of the red button area. then use a flat screwdriver to clean the hole from the inside and insert your "button" and cover it.

  • @ConservativeBrony 97

This will make it so you have a button that works when the screwdriver is open but you don't have to break it open at all and the spring mechanism still works and is necessary to open it (no wrist flicking action)

  • @JakeRyneJohnson thanks man this helped me out alot! :) now i don't have to use the stupid red button. :)

  • Is there a way to make the claws fully be closed with the screwdriver is not extended cause for mine they seem to not close properly they dont come close to toucing the green emitter?

  • @roodypatooty if you put a little bit of duct tape on the top of the copper section where the base of the claws meet you can make them close around the emitter but be careful as it might break it - maybe attempt a bit of trial and error!

  • If you keep the spring inside it will close and open like before :) ;)

  • Would spraying some metallic paint on the claw portion give it a better metal look or ruin it like the foil did?

  • @roodypatooty it just screws it up because the paint wears off too easily...

  • okay guys i dont mean offence to this guy great video but what i did was i pulled the top half off and pulled out the spring so it can flick open by flicking your wrist and still hold the sound even if your not pressing the button you wont get the leather handle though but if you only want the flicking thing do that

  • I cant get the ring off, its stuck on tight. Any ideas? Maybe hot water?

  • Is there a way to make the "claw" part clamp together while the screwdriver is extended?

  • I kinda want to do it but i think my sonic will get destroyed

  • hey man i really appreciate this because you obviously take a lot of time and money to figure this out and i think you really need some good recognition

  • Thanks man, I'm going to try it later on, hope it works !!

  • i tryed it and then you know the red button i glued that in so that is does not open when enstend

  • You busted your sound chip when putting it back together.

  • so the opening button wont work anymore?

  • @peanutcat10 it wont spring open, so you have to fick it out with your wrist like the doctor does in the show, but you still hve to hold the button down!

  • @votesaxon07 Is there anyway you can make it able to spring open?

  • so if you break that ur kinda 'screwed' LOL!! :P

  • i modified my sonic Screwdriver with duct-tape for the button and i might get leather later on =^_^=

  • i thought the leather jacket was to put on and pretend we were The Doctor with our modified sonic

  • break it your kinda screwed..bwahahaha

  • Oh! Another question:

The duct-tape that you put onto the base of the handle, before you put the leather on...what was that for?

  • Bow ties are cool. ;)

  • i can't cut the screw

  • So what was that nail for again?

  • Also, I noticed that you covered ALL of the buttons with leather.

Doesn't that make them ALL, along with the extending button (intended there, of course), a bit temperamental?

  • @Kinin4 yep covering all the buttons makes them more sensitive, but it doesnt give you any trouble as the leather adjusts to the buttons. Except this doesnt work for the extending button so thats why it has to be filed down!

  • @votesaxon07

Sweet. Have you tried putting holes in the leather over the buttons? Or is that more trouble than it's worth?

  • @Kinin4 its just too much trouble, plus the way i did it is far neater and like i said the leather adapts to the buttons!

  • Could you tell me where exactly you got this model of screwdriver, that way I know I'm working on the same thing as you are?

  • You sir, are a clever genius!

i dont care if its redundant, but as I always say:

Repeating yourself and being redundant are cool.

  • 09:58 theres a crack in the gold ring thingy

  • I did it!!!

  • @frenzy8943 brilliant! Make a video!

  • Oh, it broke but never mind

  • You are so cool

  • Lol!!!

  • Or you could press the button with your thumb covering it - whipping the sonic out at the same time - isnt that obvious at all? lol

  • @torchwood10 i dont get it - what is this in relation to?

  • Comment removed

  • or you could just push the button as you flick your wrist lol

  • Hey, did this today. There were a few mishaps, the bottom casing cracked pretty visibly, as did the ring around the top of the bottom. However, I just finished it up, and using some proper glue, got everything back together and working. Finished adding the new button just a few minutes ago. And finally got it working regularly. Thanks!

  • I'm too scared to modify it

I'm really scared it would break :(

  • I've just made an order for my screwdriver and I'm interested in following up with this. Just a quick question, what's the actual mechanism allowing the third button to prime the emitter module? From what I can see it's pressure based, so there has to be a button on the emitter thingy at the bottom.

That said, since the emitter head should be in front of the new hole you drilled, is it possible to add button 3 without actually compromising the entire spring system?

  • @drwonderbolt Yes there is a button at the bottom of the emitter section which is used to activate the screwdriver during open mode via the red button on he base. However, there is a large plastic cvering around the spring which is what allows the lower button to be used in open mode. So technically yes you can still leave the spring in, but you have to remove the red casing, as drilling straight through destroys the mechanisim.

  • Yes, put your finger in the crazy glue. It's the right thing to do. Also, stick your head in an oven and play Russian Roulette.

  • You can also get leather at some craft shops or hobby shops.

    Thumbs?

  • Does it flick open because you modified it or does it already flick open without the modifications?

  • @cowlisa

It flicks open without the modification. you just have to use a diffrent button on the bottom

  • I can't get the ring off, I tried prying it off with a knife but it doesn't even make little snaps or anything.. help?

  • XD if you break it your screwed

  • Just did this this morning, of course you missed the step about the duct tape on the bottom of the green bit so it sticks when it flicks out, but I did it - For a button I actually broke an old watch and took the time editor (Button that slides out on the side) and glued it to the outside. It works a treat - Thanks!

  • the bottom cap slides off

  • 10:10

  • Hi i receive my sonic screwdriver this morning, I'm French and I want a 3rd button but I don't want break my screwdriver, we can do this by webcam ? Thank u

  • Didn't notice until 5:22 that you had Royksopp in the background! :D

Great tut, will try it when my screwdriver arrives.. wish me luck!

  • Could I pay you for that one? so I don't take the risk of breaking my $25-30 sonic(I'm not wealthy to take the risk)

  • Did you burn your sound chip at 9:42?

  • how did he afford two screwdrivers and for very low proced doctor who star wars dc marvle kick ass stuff oh kick ass the movie visit forbiden planet .com

    ]

  • @votesaxon07 Hi mate, I can't get the ring off the sonic do you have to keep on slicing the aides with the knife or do you just go round in 1 go? Thanks

  • @JakeSmithOfficial you kind of have to slide the knife in between the ring and the handle, then turn the blade sideways and prise it open slowly until the glue cracks off. do it really gently and slowly though!

  • @votesaxon07 um would it be fine to open the little flippy thing that cases the red button that triggers the noise so it's easier to open?

  • I BROKE MY SCREWDRIVER YOU ASS!! I DID ALL OF THE INSTRUCTIONS

  • @votesaxon07 well why you didnt putted that in the begining

  • @barm15233 i thought the viewers would watch the video in full before they attempted to make the modifications.

  • @votesaxon07 To make it even better you could stitch the leather together. It would also save some glue.

  • @barm15233 also it's not "putted" dumbass

  • @barm15233 Way to be a dumbass. You take the risk of breaking it when you make any modification.

  • @barm15233 lol

  • I followed this guide for the most part, but I was able to keep the spring intact, and used an old clickey pen's button for the 3rd button. Just had to make a bigger hole for it.

  • Looks good!

  • I'm having major trouble trying to get the ring pried off. Either my screwdriver has better glue somehow or it's not as easy as it looked in the vid. Any tips? My screwdriver is all scared and pocked around the gap now.

  • @Zyphxion scarred not scared

  • So... any ideas on what you could use for the 2nd button? Besides an old nail? Also, anything else to cover the handle? Like electric tape? How did you guys do it?

  • @Cole1494 a metal ball bearing or BB works fine as well. Yea duct tape works pretty well or an old fake leather belt!

  • @votesaxon07 hey, then do you have to open up the handle or can you just poke through the grip? or drill through the red part? also, while i have you here, what is your favorite screwdriver? toy-wise that is.

  • @IndyBits yea i slid a steel bolt into the section where the spring used to be! I cut the end of first tho!

  • how do you twist it apart because mine wont

  • I would do this project if only to disable the bottom red button that breaks the thing.

  • I did it and at first I thought I broke it, but when I put the leather over it it worked exactly how he said it would. Thanks for showing us votesaxon07!

  • wow just adding the real leather makes it look 10x better

  • Yes i have

  • Done this ages ago because of you!

  • where do you buy the sonic scruwdriver ?

  • @glenn212300 toys r us

  • Very nice, you make it look so easy, I might even give it a go.

  • What's the point of this faf

  • @whoboy11 to make the screwdriver work when its flicked open like in the show, havent you been paying attention??

  • one person broke their scredriver

  • All way through! Just gonna make leather a bit mor accurate and then tomoz I'll ,make a video responce!

  • half way through! :) I got a little which is patching up! The handle of the button went a bit weird and fell apart so I glued it! Tomoz I'll continue!!

  • We got our way round the break, not the best modification but it works.

  • Oh, great, my sonic is broken :/

  • Ok, I'll admit, this mod is brilliant! =)

But HOLY CRAP to the amount of carnage that has to happen!!! X_X

I already modified my sonic with the ability to use the handle button even when the emitter is extended. Except its a tad more difficult (depends on your skill), but leaves ALL the original functions working and is much less invasive and risky! My mod in a nutshell: Installing a third button switch onto the sonic's green core. I'll have a tutorial up by the end of next week. =)

  • @tardis421 I have just finished successfully creating this without taking the spring out. You still have to snap off the top half of the red bit though.

  • @votesaxon07 so if I break the gold ring...my screwdriver' screwed! literally!

awesome vid by the way - really helpful. I've been trying to do this for ages and finally you showed me how! 8 million stars!

  • @MEKKANNOID yea cause when you flick it out the entire top section will be thrown out of the screwdriver! Thanks, glad you liked it! :D

  • Awesome tips but I found that if you make the hole on the cross knot detail slightly further up it works better =)

  • Hi there,

First of all, Amazing Video! Thx!

I want to do this but i have a question..

In 6:12 min, You put duct tape on the down part of the screwdriver, My question is why? and is this necessary to put it there?

And if i flick out the top of the screw, will it fall back or stay open?

    Thank You

  • @TDTamir Thanks! Its not necessary - it just helps hold the screwdriver together when youre adding the leather to the handle!

If you wrap some duct tape around the battery compartment it will help it stay up when its flicked open.

    Thanks for asking!

  • @votesaxon07 Hi, THx for fast answers :)

about answer number 2, did you do it? because it blocks the option to change the batteries( around the green plastic).

    thx agian

  • @TDTamir yea if you look at the part of the video where i re-attach the top half of the screwdriver you can see some black duct tape around the battery section! It does stop you from accessing the batteries but thats the miracle of duct tape - you can peel it off again!

  • @votesaxon07 OK, thx. But i have 1 more question, just one. I dont have a leather jacket, what can i use for replacement?

    thx

  • @TDTamir pretty much any thin, black material. Even duct tape should do the trick, but honestly leather is the best option, even if you could get an old one from a charity shop!

  • @votesaxon07 Holly shit, I got a big problem! i Succed to pull out the buttoms but i cant pull out the 2 parts from the re buttom.. is there any other way to pull out the cover of the red buttom? thx

  • @TDTamir if you watch the video you can see i kind of have to break it apart so dont be gentile!

  • ok so first off votesaxon07 nice job on this one too i will take this one under consideration. althought. i would like to add that 4th notch thing in there and add a button but coulndt i leave the spring inside and still have a button?

  • does it have to be a rusty old screw?

  • @TheSubliminalThought its not necessary but it is preferrable... seriously tho just use a metal ball bearing its much easier!

  • when its flicked open it doesnt stay in put. slides down unless i hold one of the other buttons. is there a way to fix that?

  • @dogzboy3 wrap some duct tape around the battery compartment!

  • @anz2k11 no the duct tape makes it spring back out again - although id recommend just jamming a ball bearing in there instead - its much more simpler!

  • I feel like if i start doing this i would brake it, but if i take the spring out without messing with the buttons will it work? Cause i want that flick but i dont want to risk screwing up the buttons haha

  • @JessyIsTheBestis actually taking it apart in general means messing with the buttons - plus if you remove the spring you remove the lower button assembly which means you wont be able to use the screwdriver in extended mode. Honestly you might as well just drill a hole in the side of it while youre at it and make the second button - btw instead of using a screw and duct tape just use a ball bearing or a BB - works so much easier!

  • @votesaxon07 okay thanks:)

  • @JessyIsTheBestis You could stick on a piece of tape on the where there are the springs of the button so when you take of the cover the buttons stay in place.

  • Have you considered aluminium tape on the exposed matel areas? It doesn't make it FEEL like metal, but it does make the plastic look a good, good deal more like metal.

  • @SuperRichi1A i think the outcome would be similar to what i tried with the tin foil - it would be all wrinkly. Tried aluminium tape on a lightsaber once and a similar thing happened... :S

  • I actually don't mind the way that Character Options originally made the toy. It would be nice to have amore accurate version, but I'd only ever use it for cosplay and for just having it as a novelty.

  • My dog chewed the end of my screwdriver :(

    cool vid!

  • im getting a second one to do this

  • Nice I might do that :)

  • Brilliant tutorial, really want to do this customization now! Thank you.

  • Might have to get a spare to do this

    Thanks for this
