  • Hi I'm 17 and am considering joning the Peace Corp when i get the chance, but i was just wondering if it is absolutely required to go to college before you join??

  • Do female volunteers in africa grow out their leg and armpit hair? Do they usually wear those wrap skirts and a t-shirt? Do you see any peace corps volunteers in africa with a tattoo or two? I know they are allowed in moderation. It just affects where you might be placed. I have a foot tattoo.

  • @GaraLuiMartin Nope. There's a few Arizonians here but not me.

  • @AZPeaceCorps You wouldn't happen to be PCV from AZ would you?

  • @AZPeaceCorps when do you come home? What was the entire experience like? Are you happy with the choice to go? Would you have done anything differently?

  • inspiring video! i cant wait to apply!

  • Great video.

  • i am in high school and have planned on joining the corps as soon as i graduate. do you think they would accept someone who hasnt started grad school yet?

  • was he seriously recording himself while using the bathroom? lol..wow. anyway, it was very informative. I am seriously considering peace corps so I am glad to get an idea of how their life is like during service.

  • Thank you for making this video! I'm a high school student and looking to join the peace corps after I get my bachelors of science in psychology. Everyone I talk to is like "dude why would you put yourself through that?" But it's little insights like this that makes me even more determined to join. Also great choice in music I love the white stripes. :)

  • does anybody know if there are any requirements to join the peace corps ,like do you have to graduate college first or have any medical training or anything like that?

  • @KNJSBFCJADKJ if you go to the Peace Corps website, they tell you exactly what they expect from their applicants.

  • @KNJSBFCJADKJ you will at least have to have you AA in something that they need or require and a year of experience working in that field.

  • I hope u had a great experience!! Loved the video!! I hope its me the next person doing a video!! Thanks so much for ur work and your willingness to help others! :D

  • Would you say that joining the Peace Corps is one of the best things you have ever done? because I am thinking about leaving college to go. I think that it would the greatest experience ever, I would rather be out helping people than going to college. Plus I have a long life to life, might as well live it to the fullest!

  • @Heatherjstinnett

Stay in college Heather. The Peace Corps only want college grads. The application process involves a LOT of essay writing so you have to be able to express yourself well. It's very tough, but if you have what it takes it will be the best thing you've ever done. But they want the BEST of the best, not dropouts.

  • @Heatherjstinnett The BEST thing I've ever done? It's definitely been the most interesting thing. I've grown a lot and I've helped people. That's all I can say about it, really. If you're serious about joining the Peace Corps, call your regional recruiter (you can find them on their website) and have a conversation regarding your current situation. They're open and friendly and will give you the best advice you're going to find out there. Best of luck to you!

  • @Heatherjstinnett You would consider dropping out of college for Peace Corps? Have you lost your mind? I have news for you. I didn't bust my ass in college and medical school to go and VOLUNTEER in some third world country. My ultimate goal of becoming a vascular surgeon came to fruition. Stay in school so as to make a better life for yourself because in the end my dear, you are the only one you can count on! Remember, college loans don't get repaid by VOLUNTEERING!

  • @moonlitphantasm I think you need to take a chill pill. Will you please breathe I never said I was seriously dropping out of college to go. Plus I just watched a 20/20 episode of ladies getting raped and the peace core not doing anything about it. Yes understood that college loans don't get repaid by volunteering.P.S: Glad to hear you worked your ass off to be stressed 90% of your life, but hey that works. Just breathe and relax. I hope that you are fulfilling your dream of being a surgeon. :)

  • @Heatherjstinnett Just and FYI, having a college degree and doing volunteer work are more likely to get you in to the peace corps... dropping out won't help you at all. They will see that as "you're likely to drop out of PC when it gets hard."

  • I am considering this experience. Now that you have completed it how do you feel?

  • @tobeedetermined I'm still in it. I extended for a third year to work with a NGO supporting agroforestry and reforestation in rural communities. In regards to how I feel: it's rather mixed and there's not enough characters in this response to justify that statement. Hmm... there are a lot of good questions being bounced around here... do I feel a semi-weekly video blog coming on? I think so... =)

  • @AZPeaceCorps Nice I'd love to check out the blog and thanks for replying that's pretty awesome that you extended it for that long I commend you on that.

  • @mug2o11 your insane.....they are selling you a bill of goods. They don't tell you that 40% of the women are raped and the government do nothing about it

  • @gopconservative78 I know dozens of women who have changed peoples lives in this country; given them opportunities that they would not have otherwise had. There is absolutely nothing insane about that. Also, your statistics are WAY off. 40%?! Check out Peace Corp's wiki for an official report on assaults on PCVs worldwide. More like .49%. (note the decimal before the 49... makes a big difference.)

  • 5:30? Man, you're sleepin' late! My favorite way to wake up is the sound of Dagomba chieftan praises blaring on the radio ten feet away from my head.

Your training sounds a lot like ours...except you left out tremendous amounts of waiting. Lots and lots of waiting. Peace Corps: Hurry Up And Be Patient! :)

    This is a good video.

(PS - your latrine looks high class with those ceramic foot plants!)

  • wow i am so excited for u! Thanks for this great video :) More videos when u have free time.

  • @TheAudiorub: American tax dollars hard at work, baby. =)

@Awesomeand: Sweet! I hope you have a great experience and are savoring your last few days of the States!

@alwaysgrounded00: No problem. That's why I made it! =) All the music on here is from the White Stripes. Cheers!

  • this video has really inspired me:) thanks for the info.

ps. what music is on the backround? i love it!

  • thanks for putting up this video. it's great to see what training is going to be like possibly. i leave for sub Saharan africa in may!

  • if u dont mine me asking how did you get paid.

  • Andrew, you got it up, woot!

  • Simple as that haha Great video, very honest and positive.
