Now this is absolutely gorgeous. Is that a particular kind of ink or can the same kind of effect be gained from regular illustrating ink? I've never used rice paper before.
I know it may not exactly be considered a traditional technique but I've been making my own textures to paint on by putting a towel over a pile of plastic shopping bags and ironing them on a low heat. It makes them fuse together and you can get some really interesting coulrs, textures and shapes from it.
@ephasm I have to thank rice paper for the effect. In my opinion, any ink can work. However, since ink is pure pigment with water (basically), ink may spread more than we want, and more uncontrollable. I love your ironing plastic idea. It is very inspirational.
Markers aren't so bad, it only matters if you keep them in damper areas, like a filter-mistered room or in the summer in a stuffy room. I've had sharpie art for like, 9 years and nothing happened.
By the way, I think you're freaking awesome. And I'm jealous.
Sharpies are acidic! They will ruin your work, in a few years your paintings will be very badly damaged from the acid. Bic makes some good non acidic-permanent markers, they are my favorite.
oh cool :) i never thought of using a marker because i thought u have to use chinese ink.... anyway im learning to paint plum blossoms but i find doing the little black lines and dots on the flower quite hard - but nice video!
I bought some items and they are very good quality; worth it if you are at all interested - but the best part was talking to Haiying, she's lovely for real!
Once in the class, one student asked: "Can I use pencil or maker on Chinese painting?" I said "NO". Now I think, why not? Is there a law? Anyway, there wasn't a police citing me a ticket! HA
@yanghaing thank you very much :)

I think there is a place for laws or rules, but when we are doing our own work, close to our heart, the only law is to do what makes us happy! ^_^
