@nicorichie no offence but i think this verion is in every sense better than amy's. jazz is interesting that we hear not just singers and instrumentalists, but we also hear the dynamics-- how singers respond to the instrumentalists and vice versa, in few seconds to formulate the note that follows one after one. and sarah's version is a good example to show this.

I think Sarah's version is better than Ella's version. Ella's version doesn't quite emote the lyrics as well as Sarah's version. Sarah really communicates the song better. Also Sarah's version has more depth and has more bird like sounds.

I've noticed a lot of AW fans have gained an interest in her music. Personally, Ella's version is my favourite, but I can't fault this rendition. I love her phrasing, I love the tempo and the improvisation. Both rendition are masterpieces.

Mel Torme, thought she had the greatest vocal instrument of any singer in the popular field who ever lived. But Ella's voice and talent was truely beyond this world, matched by her humility

This lullaby of birdland is on the album she recorded with Clifford Brown, which many Jazz critics regard as one of the best vocal Jazz records ever made. It could simply be that this is considered the definitive rendition. Although Sarah is widely admired, her style is less successfully imitated by Jazz singers.
