@nspits Ugh. I'm sick of the helmet to helmet crap every time helmets make contact. ITS FOOTBALL! Helmets are going to make contact its unavoidable. Yes, some plays are legitimate helmet to helmet hits, this is not one of them. He made an absolutely perfect hard tackle and their helmets just so happened to touch. This is a mans game and he made a mans tackle. Stop whining about helmet to helmet. Go play tennis if you don't like contact.
Sorry to inform you, but you cannot compare whether or not teams would beat other teams because of different factors.
You can say that 2001 Miami was the most talented team in NCAA history. No doubt here; 16, 1st round draft picks! Look at the DISGUSTING stats of the 1995 Huskers and the subject is closed with regards to this debate. The intra-season comparisons are not even close. Both 1971 and 1995 Nebraska win out.
Only Husker fans could possibly claim their '95 squad would have beaten this team. Physically, there are mismatches all over the field. There's absolutely no chance that Nebraska's offense runs efficiently against this defense (way too much speed and physicality...if Frazier runs into Vilma like this, he's done). Phillips would have been the #4 back on this Miami team. That says something. I'm no Cane (PSU fan), but Miami would have won by 10 points.
@uselessidguy331 Oh lord. I HATE Pennsylvania football teams (besides Pitt. Panthers for beating WVU in '07) But we'll leave that for another day haha. Yeah, I think the way you stop the Power O is with physicallity, speed and gang tackling. Would have been an amazing game. Man I love College Football. It's almost here!
@kossay159 Just watched it..pretty close. Although that is worse bc the guy didn't even see him off a screen pass. At least Ben had time to brace...a little lol
@JHandyNigga Haha, Thanks! Yeah, we have shut down corners so you can use Press coverage, a fast Defense all around and kinda like a N.Y. Jets offense. Power running game with good PA QB...I love Miami too FWIW. Here's to hoping they can bring back the dominance. Frick Florida and FLorida State. It's all about the lsU!
@LSU4LIFE44 '01 Miami needed a miracle play at the end to beat Boston College, not to mention that Virginia Tech dropped 2 game-winning touchdown passes. NO ONE came within 14 points of '95 Nebraska. NO GAME was ever in doubt from the kick-off to the last snap, and '01 Miami, with Vilma and Reed, as good as they were/are, just can't say that.
@cornfednebraskaneer Only problem with '95 Nebraska is they ran the Triple Option. The '01 canes defense was so fast, quick and athletic and thats wehat u need to stop a triple option team. Its devastating for em. I wish we had a football time machine and could go back and watch it. BOth teams are top two of all time no doubt. I think Miami's D could hold their own against Tommy Frazier and Laurence Phillips and that POWER O. WOuld be a stalemate IMO.
@LSU4LIFE44 I'm not doubting it would be a good game. College athletes in '01 were different than even those in '95, so who knows how it would go. I just go by how each team did against its competition at the time. '95 Nebraska wasn't actually an option team. It was more power run/play action, not too entirely different from the Canes, though I will admit Miami had better receivers (but not better at blocking!). It would probably come down to which defense could make big plays.
@cornfednebraskaneer Ah. I always thought that '95 NEB team was all Triple Option out of the I with some big PA passes...my bad haha.
The thing is..I dont know anyone omn that NEB Defense but they were good. Miami is loaded with stars on the defensive side of the ball. But NEB did have great balance that ear. Devastating run O and a great Overall D.
Of course some players are going to get out of South Florida - not all of them are a fit for Miami, some want to get away from home & there are only so many schollys available. Patrick Johnson (Peterson) for you guys is one - hey, LSU got him, even when he was a Cane verbal for a while. That's how it goes. Canes have pulled kids from Louisiana as well - Reggie Wayne, Ed Reed, etc. & LaRon Byrd who is going to be special this year & next. LSU has Canes ties - Skip Bertman came from The "U".
@CaneTenacity Yeah, well, it works hand in hand haha. Miami and Louisiana both have some of the best talent to come out. Never knew Skip had some ties to Miami. Thanks lol. Peterson is by far our best Defensive Back. Played great this season.
@LSU4LIFE44 - ya, Skip played at Miami from 1958-1960, got his BA and Master's from The "U" as well ... he was the coach at Miami Beach High for 11 years ... got Florida's Coach of the Year 3 times ... he was Ron Fraser's assistant coach at The "U" from '76-'83 ... Skip is possibly more of a Cane than a Tiger, ha
Vilma straight up put him to sleep - hit him like a trainwreck & shoveled a keg of Ambien down his throat. I also loved seeing 4 Canes immediately jumping on the ball when it came out, like a school of piranha - James Lewis, Markese Fitzgerald, Matt Walters & Ed Reed. Nebraska had no business being in that game - I would've rather seen Joey Harrington & Oregon get crushed by the Canes, instead of Nebraska. 1 more year of growth for the current Canes - what Coker left was a 5 yr rebuilding job.
@CaneTenacity Hope they can do it because IMO...when Miami is doing good...people who usually don't watch will watch. It seems like they've gotten a hell of alot better since we crushed them in the peach bowl..I hope shannon can get it done
@LSU4LIFE44 - you know why they got better since that beat down? No Larry Coker. He decimated the program with crappy & lazy recruiting. Shannon is rebuilding the Canes the way he knows how - he's been a Cane for life, from the JJohnson days. Shannon has gotten the Cane type players - not always the ones with the highest star ratings from the subscription services .. but the ones that fit the Cane mold of old. He's also rebuilt the fence around South Florida, doing what Schnellenberger preached
Finally someone said it. You are sooooo right. He destroyed in just a few years what Butch Davis rebuilt. That man (Larry Coker) is the Barry Switzer of college football. He NEVER should have been at Miami. Can you imagine Jim Johnson, Dennis Erickson or Butch Davis starting Brock Berlin, let alone recruit him?
@CaneTenacity And development. Crappy development, if there was any at all. Kyle Wright was the #1 QB in the country coming out of HS, but he never got any better under Coker. Larry refused to let Hester play on offense, even though he was the best player on the team and the OC was begging every day.
