How could he? The didn't have any kids from Ayesha (peace be upon her). And she was given lofty accomodation and protection. There was even a story when Ayesha's father tried to beat her, and the Prophet stepped in his way and stopped him.

@theleftymonster The Prophet p.b.u.h. married to protect women at times when women were ostracized by other non believers and at the mercy of unjust men. Women then didn't have such fair rights as women today have. Some say he married women from different tribes so as to build relations with those tribes thus spreading the word of Islam. Look at the context and u'll see marriage was a strong way of forming relations.

You don't get a thing, do you? Women in the tribal, nomadic culture of the Old Testament were under the obligation to produce a male heir. Now Moses here (who, according to tradition is responsible for formulating the laws) decided that it would be unwise/unhealthy for a woman to have sex just after she gave birth. So he decided to codify a time of respite for her. And as it was imposible for him to invoke medical reasons - he decided to pass it for a "purification" period. Learn your history.

Strange, because God of the Bible is the God of Abraham and the prophets, and the God of Jesus, whom you (I presume you're Muslim) also consider a prophet. Ergo He's the same with the God of Islam. Therefore I wouldn't be so hasty about calling the God of the Bible a bloodthirsty lunatic. At least He doesn't sanction suicide bombings anywhere in the Gospels (which, by the way, are far more important to Christians than the Old Testament, which is considered something more of a lesson in history).

And as far as this passage you quote is concerned - at least Christians are not so obsessed about obeying every little ridiculous, obsolote passage from the Scriptue (and in this case uttered by someone other than Jesus, to boot) as to embrace as a lifestyle something which was meant to apply to 1st century AD communities in the Mediterranean basin. Christians learned to distinguish between doctrine and cultural specificities. Have you?

Here is what Quran said about women: " Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great."(Ref: Chapter 4-The women, verse 34)
