I'm 9+0 today and yesterday I tried my Sonoline B (I use it for work, I'm a midwife) and was amazed to instantly hear my babys heartbeat very clear. As in your case, it was located on the right side, about 1 cm above the pubic bone. The heartrate also was at around 170 bpm.
Most women say they find it really low by the pubic bone, but I found him higher up on the right side. Yes this was the first day that I found him, I had been trying since around 7 weeks, even ealier in the day I taped this I was so frustrated because I couldn't get him, I was just looking in the wrong spot. It also help if you have an empty bladder, move the probe slow and angle it. After I took this video there was many times I freaked out cause I couldnt find him, they hide easily.
You know its your babys heartbeat because it's a lot faster than your own, as you can see this one shows the heart rate at around 170, my normal heart rate would be a lot slower at around 80.

where are you positioning the probe? I am 8 weeks today and still hearing nothing... was 8wks 4 days the first time you heard it??
