What a beautiful ship the original ENTERPRISE was: a clean, logical, uncluttered design. Just watching it sail past that planet with lights flashing gives me goose flesh. It's a shame they ruined it in later years by adding all sorts of unnecessary crap!
the original still holds up. Someone ought to rework the "Filmation" animated series, the voices are from the original actors, but the show itself could be completely CGI.
Wonderfully done. You can really tell this was crafted by a group of people that loved the Original. Almost like something that they could have done 40 yrs ago if Gene had the money and production. Love the remasterd music as well.
Star Trek TOS and its Intro; good stuff. This was prophecy, and changed television as the Moon landings took place. The 1970s had so much science fiction, that it was the science fiction decade that set America's new entertainment viewpoint; as we are seeing the stars & galaxies more than ever before.
I bought the season one BluRay of Star Trek just last week. Watching it, everything looks brand new. Looks like I will have too order seasons 2 and 3 soon. I love the remastered shots and the picture looks crisp and clear with vivrant color, ect. I recommend it if you have a bluray or PS3 player. They really did an excellent job. At first I was skeptical, now I'm sold.
I h8 that they discontinued it, all becouse it had low ratnigs, although if you look it up on the internet it'll tell you that it was one of the most beloved shows ever, LOL
I have season 1 of the Remastered series on DVD & I love it. They didn't over do it on the enhanced visual effects. They just built on top of what was already established. The Effects style of the late1960's is still there. Its just that they made it more realistic & believable.
The music is the same, it's just been remastered so it sounds much better. The images. . .meh. I prefer cheap handmade sfx to cheap digital fx. The new effects look cheaper than the ones they used in TNG over 20 years ago.
@Swatyo. You are correct! That's because they used the wrong 3d package, which is only good for video games. Look at the effects in the Star Trek New Voyages series, you can see the difference. Just saying.
@Humbertusmarius I think they were going for a cgi retro look. They wanted the graphics clean, but to still look a bit like models. Hence the lower greade 3D package.
I've only seen about fifteen episodes altogether (both original and remastered) but I have to say, CBS really did a fine job remastering the special effects and the opening theme. The special effects no longer take you out of the experience, but unlike the OTT effects in the remastered Star Wars films, they don't try and 'add more', either. They're just subtle and seamless, as they should be.
Exactly. I love the oringials and the remastered are even better. Especially when you see episodes like "the Doomsday Machine" with a lot of action in space
i am about to watch the new film.....i cant wait......hot dog, orange fanta and pop corn...large......!! the smell of the cinema....the lights go down....the trailers!!!!!!!! .....and then i need to peeeee!!!!!! nnnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!
The new CGI isn't bad, I like how they've kept the Enterprise on an angle like in the old intro and the music sounds a lot sharper now.
This has gotten me even more determined to get the newly re-released Original series DVD box sets now. I have to admit to liking the old 60s effects, they were cute and endearing, but the new CGI does help show just what the Original series might have looked like if today's technology had been around in the 60s.
the whole show was digital revisited and all the dust, scratches, etc were fixed. Next all the music was rescored because the methods today are different. Plus all the original model ships, planets and background are replaced with CG models and including the 60's effects redone or replaced.
It's because they went back and used the original score list and putting the music and rescored it in full digital 5.1 so the music is a lot cleaner than it was back in the 60's.
Oh, now I see, when playing this video, compared to the original, the sounds are and specific notes are more defined, I like the remastering, I like the original to, which is actually remastered as well, the CGI is the third time TOS has been remastered.
I was talking about the graphics, not the position of the ship. And anyway, what I was saying was they went from the original cheesy effects to current cheesy effects. They shouldn't have touched it.
ok, but still I like the new effects just as much as I like the original, but the updates bring this series into our generation, of high def, and digital technology.
I personally like the new effects, it allows them to bring this series into the new age, now that everything is going digital, this must look awesome on a Plasma or LCD display.
my parents are in there 50's and when they saw this they were acting like they were 13 years old and was talking about the technology back then and now it a big difference and it is.
Split infinitives are bad? When has proper english ever really been beautiful english....lol You never say "It is I" You say "it's me." when someone asks who it is. Besides "to boldly go" is something that marks Startrek as unique. I believe it's a great line. Changes in our language are not always good and there are exceptions to the rules. It used to be a firm rule not to start a start a sentence with "AND" but today it requires a bit more discernment. It's no longer a firm rule.
@RedwoodTheElf Youre missing the point. To go boldly might be correct, but TO BOLDLY GO emphasizes the word boldly. ANd thats what they were trying to push in the opening sequence. Star Trek was done in the dark ages when westerns were the thing. Roddenberry had to constantly compete with that nonsence, and apparently he won. Star Trek is bigger then any western could ever dream of being
Not apparently won, obviously won. In addition to feature length movies and multiple television spinoffs, there are entire Star Trek conventions; has there ever been a Dallas convention or a Hopalong Cassidy movie? Think about it; nay, think long and hard about it. Star Trek well exceeds and surpasses the high (admittedly ankle high, I mean look at Jersey Shore) standards set by television. TV was as big as Westerns got, and where are they now? TV Land reruns, where they honestly belong.
God that was bloody awful! First time I've seen the remastered opening (which BTW has been applied even to early episodes that never used the opera singer originally - btw it's a myth that it was a theremin. It was an opera singer and she in fact only died a year or so ago). Terrible. There was no excuse - none! - for redoing the opening music.
The original effects were better. CGI looks like a computer game. Also, it's spelled "seen" as in "He had seen the movie" and scene in "The scene was incorrectly acted".
