My Basset does this behavior about once a year. Remember, Basset's are scent hunting hounds and want a dominant leader. After she does the whole Im the boss growling act I will play fight with her and she will start noticebly biting harder than usual. This is dominant but fun behavior for her. She's not trying to be mean but pushing the boundaries. I wrestle her to her back and pretend to bite her on her neck and growl loudly "i know it sounds crazy" and I never hurt her. I really hate it when peoples dogs misbehave but because of their breed, it is acceptable. If a pit bull did this.. people would go into a RAGE. But when a Basset Hound does it, it's just "cute".

@mjfromga89 this is not "misbehavior"..this is a dog exhibiting behavior that is inherent to it's breed...bassets can be curmudgeonly. People go into a rage when a pit bull exhibits this behavior because they are prone to attacking.....when was the last time you heard of a basset attacking a human ? You never do, because they don't.. they're not bred with an "attack gene"...study up before you comment, huh ?

We had a Basset Hound that did the same exact thing! He would never bite or anything. He was just an old curmudgeon before he turned one. :-)

I thought my Basset was the only one who was like this when you try to move him. I was worried. Usually I will take the sheet or blanket underneath him and just roll him. He still gets mad and growls but I still love him dearly. I dont like to be moved either when I am warm and comfy! :)

my basset was the same way, she DID NOT like to be moved or bothered when she was all snuggled and comfy. It can be funny, but you have to know the dog and there has to be a clear indication of who's the alpha in the house. I can tell from your videos that you have a great companion

He is cute.....but never bother a Basset when he sleeps or eats. I have seen some of them jump up and snap. It may be funny to you, but I think it is teasing him. But he is oh so cute.

What a great and noble beast, your Basset!! I've owned three Basset Hounds in my lifetime, loved them all and miss each one of them dearly... sometimes even more than departed human loved ones.

Love your dog while you have them, once gone, you'll regret not loving on them more than you do now.
