Qualitywise the CZ5K still holds up very well these days! You gotta contact HollowSun and arrange so the he can sample your CZ5K to preserve the unique sounds for future generations.
With respect to the "thin" sound that sephardimm refers to, Casio clearly wasn't going for a classic fat analog sound. Many others in this price range already had that very well nailed down, but there wasn't an affordable digital synth that could create similar sounds to the very popular DX-7. If you didn't have $2500 laying around for the Yamaha, the CZ-5000 approximated similar sound for about $1000.
I.e., it was unique and good for what it was: The cheaper alternative to the DX-7.
@sephardimm have you heard it in person or played one? i own a CZ5K and a MicroMoog and i have to say the cz CAN sound thin, if you program it that way. but it can also sound very big and angry
i own a cz5000 and "lost" the knobs of the sliders because the fall off very easy. so its likely to lose them when you're not thinking of it and have your cz moved. best thing ist to fix them before you find yourself searching for the knobs in dark places...
i have a cz3000 and i just cant make any of these amazing sounds cos i dont know anything at all about synthesis but i really want to,what can i do to learn this stuff ?????????????????/

I dig it. This keyboard has it's OWN thing going on, and you gotta respect that.

It seem like most CZ-series Casios have the volume and chorus sliders yanked out. How do the lose them? Do they smash them around or something?

My CZ-5K is one of the least expensive synths I have, but the most fun to play and some of the coolest sounds!
