  • Sometimes I feel like maybe Stanley Kubrick was a pretty good film maker.

  • Crazyhelidude is wrong. The road in the opening of The Shining is "Glacier Route 1" or "Going to the Sun" road, in Glacier National Park in Montana. The lake is Saint Mary and the island is called "Wild Goose"

  • stanly + steven + jack = great movie

  • 冒頭の空撮の映像は何度観ても鳥肌が立つほど素晴らしい

  • What kind of demented musician comes up with this!?! Creepy is an understatement! At 1:14, it just gets too much to handle!!

  • really creepy but cool

  • If you really think about it, nothing much happens during the first 2 hours of the movie, but the music is so creepy that it makes the whole movie terrorfying.

  • omg i luv this its so creepy xD

  • @stelrose0 I agree! Thanks for the visit, mate! : )

  • im not sure but i think its name is "sympjony for the dead"...but again.. i aint sure

  • Excellent. As you can see from my name I strongly approve what you have presented before us all. I must say you have done a great job!

  • @JacksSonKenny Wow! Thanks so much! :)

  • creepiest movie i'ver ever seen. first time i saw it, i was 7 years old :-O

  • I grew up to this!

  • Who wrote this? Is Penderecky?

  • @182tubby It was written by French composer Hector Berlioz. The specific piece is called Dies Irae. It roughly translates to "Wrath" or "Day of Judgment." Some of the additional electronic sounds in this piece were done by Wendy Carlos (Tron) and Rachel Elkind. It's quite creepy to say the least.

  • @CrazyHeliDude :) Correct! This Berlioz piece (symphony fantastique) is a wonderful symphony, and whenever I hear this movement I can't help but think about this opening scene. Interestingly, the terrain is the area leading to Mt. Hood (I believe). I know the exterior shots of the hotel were of the Timberline Lodge but I ran a relay race at Mt. Hood and I think the road leading to it is also the same one filmed here.

  • @amstaffguy Actually, this was not written by Berlioz, although the same melody does occur in his symphony fantastique. He was quoting the Dies Irae, a 13th century plainchant which was used in funeral services of the catholic church for hundreds of years. Berlioz's audience would have recognized the tune instantly and appreciated its placement in the final movement of that symphony. It could be argued that this piece of the Shining score is an interpretation of Berlioz's interpretation.

  • Who wrote this?

  • I've GOT to drive that highway before I die!

  • best. film. ever. I wish I could watch it again, like how I did the first time, not knowing whats happening next. I loved this film so much :)

  • Ha, ha! With the video being reversed it looks like he's driving on the British side of the road!

  • now i cant sleep again....

  • man, jack hits the reverse like a goddamn champ.

  • This song's so creepy.

  • ... you can actually be named scatman?

  • this is the most disturbing music i have ever heard, its even worse then some of the final doom tracks

  • Because I wanted to give another point of view at scenes... and avoid copiright violations too! ;)
