  • I loved this love movie!

  • I got the DVD to this recently so I could watch it again after many, many years. I loved it! But I can't believe how similar it is to Star Wars, I'm surprised George Lucas didn't sue them or something lol

  • @AefionBloodclaw It wasnt just similar to Star Wars it was almost a blatant rip-off. I remeber seeing this when I was a kid in 3-D.

  • Very Star Wars-influenced.

  • lol my name is orin xD

  • Looks like a nice animation film.

  • Hello, I'm looking for an animated movie not unlike this one, the main character's a young guy, and the only part of it I saw when I was a kid was he and his group being attacked, and a female fairy/pixy-like character gets shot with an arrow and killed. Think it was the first time I saw a cartoon character dying haha, and that's why it's etched in my mind. Anyone seen it?

  • that kid's name is seriously Ka-Ka?

  • @TheShockaholic No, the character is named Orin, K'Khan is a title

  • this cartoons are more awsome then the cartoons today :P

  • An amazing master piece!

    Disney sucks !

  • dude, this is like starwars only as a cartoon and with a slightly different name...

  • @RickyRider35 This is not like Starwars. The story is very different when you look into it deeper. Anyways Starwars is just a retelling of things such as the Arthurian legends etc ;)

  • I saw this in the theater, and I fucking LOVED it! The 3-D effects were quite good. Hopefully, with the rise of 3-D TV's, they'll release a 3-D version on Blu-ray.

  • @Diskoboy1974 how did you see this in 3D?...

  • @rosseatsleepjdm - this was originally released in 3-D during it's theatrical run back in 1985.

  • @Diskoboy1974 oaft how pioneering, now i NEED to see this in all its dimensions :L

  • from a time

    when directors still had vision

    comes a story

    of epic and awesome

  • You took the video from DVD??

I wondered about the fine quality...thx for all the work!

  • Got this on DVD, and to be honest even though this is a "rip off" of Star Wars, I prefer this over Star Wars.

  • this is from 1986? my god, that was 4 years after my birth, it looks AMAZING...,that s old school cartoons for ya,...

  • I saw this in theaters when i was 4 when it came out in 3D, one of my fave animated movies and one of the best adult animated movies. Anyone who liked this should check out Heavy Metal, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (aka Warriors of the Wind), Titan A.E., Castle in The Sky, Serenity, Krull, Dark Crystal, Fire and Ice and Rock and Rule.

  • primitive chess game, OMG!! What timeline is the story set in?

  • @RanaRandom I think its supposed to be set in the far future, which would make sense. It always bothered me that Star Wars was supposed to be set in the past and yet there were humans walking around (And they were referred to as humans BTW). Having this as the far future with humans having spread across the galaxy just makes much more sense

  • row row, fight da po-

    o, wait, nevermind... carry on

  • great job recreating this!

  • Hi everyone, I've been looking for an animated film/episode (think it's a film) that looked a bit like the start of this trailer, it's about a guy like this guy and he-man sort of thing, the only other thing I can remember is that he ends up in a cave and leeches suck his blood and he becomes weak. I have been hunting for years and years, if anyone has any suggestions PLEASE let me know!!

  • And one more thing is the way the enemy robot is cut in half at the waist, with a laser sword at the end before falling to its doom is suspiciously similar to the way that Darth Maul died in Star Wars Ep1 The Phantom Menace.

  • I also just realized that those slave driver robots in the mines are using Zero Suit Samus's weapon.

  • But it also was a ripoff of a Starwars movie that hadn't been made yet. Specifically the hero is a SLAVE, and he has to fight a droid army. This accurately describes both Starwars Phantom Menace and Legend Of Orin.

  • Blatant ripoff of Starwars. It's practically a Starwars cartoon. Guy who's lost everyone he cares about learns of his destiny and his supernatural ability, and gets a laser sword. He teams up with a shady smuggler dude. He fights to save the people under tyranny. This describes very accurately BOTH the original Starwars Trilogy and Legend Of Orin.

  • @BankaiIchigo12345 If that's the case then a lot of similar stories are a rip off starwars, hey maybe conan the barbarian is a rip off starwars? You can easily reuse a story if its long forgotten although I kinda wanna forget those prequel starwars movies ugh

  • @Tennisman81

Say uh besides Star Wars, does this movie also remind you of James Cameron's Avatar at times? similar alien jungle, tyrant, a young man who wants to free people including the same alien horses. Cameron is a fan of sci-fi/fantasy and animation including adult animation. He made a combo of Star Wars, Starchaser, Ferngully, Last of hte Mohicans, Dune, Nausicaa, Princess Mononoke, Heavy Metal, Castle in The sky, Total Recall, Fantastic Planet and Lightyears, don't you agree?

  • @Johnlindsey289 Don't forget Dances with Wolves.

  • @TheEnviousdominous

Yes that and Man Called Horse and Lawrence of Arabia

  • Star Trek font

    Rotoscoping over Star Wars

  • Conan was his great great grandfather

  • Wonder where I can find the not-recreated trailer (but rather the VHS home recording ripped-to-computer version of the trailer)?

  • Remember first seeing two trailers for this movie while renting out videos as a kid.

In one was a clip of a torture scene that got cut-out.

  • LOL first thing I though was that the narrator was Antony Hopkins.. XDDD

Second thing I though was that the animation of that times was so fu**** amazing that I don´t have the words for describe it!!!! The animation is so fluid, almost real...

Damn it!!! this kind of movies makes me wish to have born earlier...

    Good animation movies...

  • @YShaner

I know and if you like this movie i recommend Rock and Rule, Heavy Metal, LightYears (Gandahar) and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (Warriors of the Wind).

  • I havent seen this in ages. Now can somebody tell me why Cartoon Network wont show this ? :i

  • Pirates of Dark Waterloo

  • @Pushmajster

It does remind me of Pirates of Dark Water in space.

  • Anyone thinks this movie is the Avatar of the 80's? if you watch that movie you'll find similarities to James Cameron's movie since he is a fan of animation, anime and ghibli as i'm sure this is one of the movies Cameron borrowed from. It was also in 3D like Avatar, Zygon reminds me of Quatrich and Orin is like Jake Sully.

  • @Johnlindsey289 It seems more like Star Wars to me...

  • @blondejonesy

I know but there are some similarities to this movie in Avatar since this is one of Cameron's favorite animated movies such as the jungle, enslaving of a race, a messiah and even a similar kind of villain. Cameron combined Dances with Wolves, Starchaser, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (Warriors of the Wind), Dune, Ferngully, Princess Mononoke, Fantastic Planet, Heavy Metal, Star Wars, Wizards, Castle in The Sky (Laputa) and Star Trek 6 in one cocktail.

  • @blondejonesy Heavily-inspired by Star Wars. Also has a lot of weird esoteric imagery about snakes...

  • i'm trying to find a cartoon series about these pirates. It begins with one being given a special power and he starts on a ship as a prisoner, then a woman is captured by the captain and she pretends to be loyal before betraying him and escaping with the young man, then they meet an ugly pirate who joins their team and they go on adventures. I watched this when i was very young so don't remember much but i remember the animation being similar to this.

  • @TheTomWIlliams Pirates of Dark Water?

  • @trailersic yeah there were only like twelve episodes made..dunno why though I thought the premise was COOL

  • @trailersic You are correct sir, but they never finished the series

  • @trailersic - sounds like Pirates of the Dark Water. They made action figures too, and I have all of them except for Niddler. Anyway, it was a bad-ass cartoon series that should be checked out.

  • @trailersic I agree with TomWilliams, you may be referring to Pirates of Dark Water

  • @jeangreyfan 'He' was referring to Pirates of Dark Water I just guessed that was what he was talking about. I think you got us back to front. BTW I have never watched an episode of Pirates of Dark Water.

  • @TheTomWIlliams did it have an annoying half monkey half bird

  • @TobiasIoD yeah it was The Pirates of Dark Water

  • WOW, thats very impressive. esspecialy when you see how old it is.

  • love this movie

  • In a world...

  • @doublemandala

    IN A WORLD...

There I said it, ya happy?

  • Loved this movie for years since i was a kid in the 80's, i did saw this in theaters when i was 4 years old in 3D and it was cool. This is one of the best adult animated movies ever! Who thinks this movie is a cross between Nausicaa (aka Warriors of the Wind), James Cameron's Avatar, Star Wars, and Heavy Metal?

  • This makes me think of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann... ROFL

  • LASERS AND EXPLOSIONS! I WANNA SEE THIS NOW!

  • Metal gear!=?

  • i love this film wicked story great animation too

  • i love this film wicked sroty great animation too

  • I saw the last half on TV a few weeks ago and the animation blew me and my sister away. What a relief it is to watch western animation again! I wasn't impressed by how fluid it was for a 1985 film -- I was impressed by how fluid it was, period. Nothing stays still! Japanese animators barely bother to make the speaking character's lips move, much less everything else in view. I wound up buying it to see the rest, and I'm glad I did. And yeah, it's a Star Wars knockoff, but who cares? It's great1

  • @Nupetiet There was a good deal of rotoscoping involved, particularly with the ships, if I recall correctly. Essentially, rotoscoping is tracing hand-drawn animation over an existing picture.. sometimes live action (think LotR cartoon, Fire and Ice, Wizards, others) or over computer animation.

I still love this film, though.

  • LOL i saw this way before star wars and i thought was the most awesome thing ever but then i realised how much in common it had with SW but still it's a classic plus the story is a bit different and at times more mature...One of the characters actually curses lol

  • Holy shit! I was just talking about this movie yesterday! Couldn't for the life of me remember the damn name and nobody knew what I was talking about. I loved this movie when I was a kid!

  • this is a classic.

  • :) aa that makes perfect sense no wonder kaka is such a good football player his ancestor was a fcking hero that saved humanity ahaha

  • sigh, why dont they make movies like these anymore <:(

  • The 80s had the best animation of all time. I'm not really feeling the overuse of today's japanese anime on american cartoons

  • I woke up one Saturday a few months back and my dad was watching this and i sat down and watched it with him then my brother came in the room and asked what it was i told him a Saturday morning cartoon that does not suck ass.

  • Is it this one or another kind of similar vein with a scene: Hero is in a dark, swampy area and there are some cyborg kind of characters with a whip. Sorry, remember the image as a 5 year old but can't place the movie. I know obscure and probably not right place to ask but I can't place it and the thought bugs me. Never got to see the film cause the tape we had was screwed beyond any recognition but could see that scene. Sorry, if there is someone that could help thanks in advance.

  • I find it funny people keep referring to this film as "a Star Wars clone" or a "rip off of Star Wars..." and fail to note that Star Wars is a "rip off" of Flash Gordon.

  • Don't let the whole 'Star Wars rip' put you off this movie. It's fantastic. I saw it in 3D when it first came out.

  • it looks fun... the ship looks a bit like the ship from the show Firefly, though. it looks like starwars/firefly/matrix/terminator. all that =awesome! it would be even better if there was a dragon... :D

  • Good animation but the story was such Aa classic rip off of Star Wars. Still it wasnt bad.

  • So... It's Star Wars?

  • The Ship flyong over the landscape Makes me think of the Solvalou from the Namco arcade game Xevious

  • Nice music score movie was a bit of a Star Wars clone though not bad for it's time though

  • fuck, a laser whip to the eyes!

  • FUCKIN GREAT WORK DUDE

  • looks good but there is a bit of a starwars rip off. just a bit.

  • I agree that it is a Star Wars ripoff, but the stupid thing is that this movie seems better than Star Wars is some ways. Like the power of Orin is more ethereal than the force on Star Wars.

Or maybe thanks to the prequels, the legend feel of Star Wars died, and no one chose to ruin this movie the way they ruined Star Wars.

But that's the way it feels.

  • well im old enough to have seen the orignal in theaters.

so starwars has a special place in my heart.

of the prequils the third movie was the best of the lot.

  • I agree about Revenge of the Sith. The others were lousy.

I use to have a special place in my heart for Star Wars, especially since I was born the same year it was. But when Spike TV started to play it over and over again, ALRIGHT ALREADY!!!

There use to be a point that Star Wars was only second to Star Trek. But with their desire to to play it over and over again, I can't stand watching it anymore. Maybe if they stop and give it a break, then I will be back to it.

  • wuch is the nature of tv reruns.

    oh well.

revenge of sith is a much better story line.

    and best of all

    not alot of jar jar.

  • "and best of all

    not alot of jar jar."

    Excellent point.

  • Fucking class movie, one of the best movies of the 80's, more of an adults film than a kids film as it's quite violent in places but thats whats makes it good, this is how cartoons should be made.

Hope it gets released on dvd here in the u.k. soon.

  • the memories, i remember this trailer more than the actual film

  • Great job putting this together. I love this movie and bought the DVD off amazon when I found it was available. I used to watch this on one of the premium movie channels whenever it would be on (The Movie Channel, I think, or maybe Showtime).

Great, great animated film. Part Star Wars, part He-Man but original enough and just awesome.

  • HOT DANG FREAKIN' HECK! I remember this from when I was a kid! I watched like the first half of it, but then we had to go visit som e friends and it has stuck in my mind ever since! THIS MOVIE ROCKS!!!! I have to get the DVD, this movie FREAKIN OWNS!!!!!!!! Man they sure don't make cartoons like they used to. :"(

  • this is one of my fave movies ever, i didnt even know that it came out on dvd. i might get it and one ofr my mate as i lost his vhs cop he let me borrow whoops:)

  • i never even KNEW about this movie! im going to buy it on amazon like, today! lol.. AWESOME!

  • his name's KaKa?

  • No his names Orin, but his is (allegedly) the Kakahn, the only guy that can defeat the robots, who came once before and stopped Zygon from taking over before.

  • @trailersic Unfortunetly having the bad guy call him "Kaka" invites unwanted laughs from people since it sounds like the hero is being called a child's word for excrement.

Still, it's an awesome movie and one that I feel is terribly underrated.

  • @trailersic this is so much better than CGI..classic..

  • @5tonyvvvv It's the quality of the movie that counts, not how it's made. Don't be ignorant.

  • I saw this movie when I was little, but never knew the name of it. It's one of the first movies I ever remember seeing and it's really stuck with me. Thanks for the recreation of the trailer. It's been bugging me for over 20 years what it's title was. I'm glad I stumbled upon this.

  • Well done on recreating the trailer, i had this on one of my Entertainment In Video movies (might have been House or House 2 - The Second Story). I know it would have been hard to recreate the final bit of the trailer with the Starchaser logo moving & getting smaller to eventually dissappear but really well done!!!

  • Comment removed

  • yer mum's a star wars ripoff.

  • Very well done!

I'd like to see a Trailer for this movie featuring the Mandroids.

  • Well if they could remaster the two views in HD they could release this in theatres digitally.

  • There could be a chance if next Winter's Digital 3D release of "Beauty and the Beast" is successful.

  • haha i saw this flick in the theater in 3d...would be cool as hell if they would re release it

  • Doesn't this movie remind anyone of "Heavy Metal", "Krull", "Star Wars", "Flash Gordon" or "rock and Rule"?

  • Yep

  • I agree there aren't enough of these kinds of movies (animated movies for 13+ males, not from Japan, okay this was made in Korea but it's American writing and planning)

  • @trailersic

What do you think of Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Heavy Metal, Pink Floyd The Wall, Wicked City, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds, Wizards, Ninja Scroll, Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend, Fire and Ice, Beowulf, Golgo 13, Fist of the North Star, Princess Mononoke, South Park The Movie, and other mature audiences animated movies?

  • @Johnlindsey289

Well Akira was the first Anime that I saw, of course it's great, felt Ghost was a little over-rated but certainly a landmark film, Heavy Metal was a noble attempt to get more mature themes in western animation, but really it wasn't that 'mature' just tits and blood, still fun though. The Wall I have got but not seen, thought that it was mostly live action, at least the bits I've seen. Wicked City, again Anime interesting, always get it mixed up with monster city. Nausicaa...

  • @trailersic

...Anime - got, not seen. Wizards & Fire And Ice I don't rate as highly as Bakshi's earlier work because there weren't as interesting and unique in my eyes as Heavy Traffic, Coonskin & Hey Good Lookin'. Ninja Scroll I think I watched but not sure. Golgo 13 & urotsukidoji I always wanted to see when I was about 13 in 93, but never got round to. Fist of the Northstar was a bit silly with the heads exploding everywhere. Mononoke, good film. South Park had the tv show to back it up...

  • @trailersic

Urotsukidjoi is very sick stuff with tentacle rape, mutilation, sexual activity abound even with demons and it started hentai big time. You know what hentai is?

  • @Johnlindsey289

...Beowulf, well that's more a live action film done in CGI so not sure if that really counts. Thing is nowadays with Anime, Adult Swim & flash animation and all it's not as hard to do an adult animated feature, for example El Superbeasto full of adult stuff, sex, drugs, nazis, gore but nowadays it's not such a big achievement, it's not that hard to push anymore. A couple of films to mention are Plague Dogs, Rock & Rule, Beavis & Butthead Do America & anything Bakshi

  • @trailersic

Those are great as is Starchaser legend of Orin. Say Do you think Starchaser is the 80's Avatar? This was a 3D Sci-fi/fantasy epic before Cameron's movie and you gotta admit it's a little similar at times with a bit of the story of Moses. Do you also think Ghost in The Shell and Akira inspired The Matrix as well? also see Perfect Blue, Paprika, Fantastic Planet, Lightyears (Aka Gandahar), Batman animated movies, DC animated movies, Marvel animated movies and Vampire Hunter D 1 & 2.

  • Great work! Thanks for doing this :D

  • I love this film!!

  • Hey I remember this film, animation was very VERY good considering the year it was made.

Quite enjoyed watching this, even though it was a blatant rip of Star Wars.

  • This old animation was made so perfect (not comparing with Disney films or Lucas arts). The artists those times done a great job in making this movie.

  • my parents got the idea 4 my name from this film

  • should get sold around the world now. not sold in australia.

  • why dont they release it on DVD now? people want it.

  • It's out on DVD but only in America.

  • Yeah it was on at least 5 videos, there were four versions of the trailer, a theatrical one which was short and emphasized the 3D and a longer one emphasizing how much it made at the box office and a shorter one (without the head laser) which was the original theatrical trailer.

  • I remember the trailer a lot better than I do the film... it seemed to be on the beginning of a lot of vhs's back in the day... think it was teen wolf... possibly even No Retreat, No Surrender... definitely all of the 'entertainment in video' movies... also had that bloody 'american rabbit' thing before it too..

  • Nice work on putting all of that together. I used to love this film as a kid.
