@yaboybigj09 I agree with you. Neal Schon is the band to me, his guitar style is what is consistant from the first album on. Granted, the sounds from the Steve Perry years are the best, but it is due to a lot more, like the keyboard style and the typical 80's sound. They had another guy in the 90's and it was good music, just a different sound. Bands evolve. Arnel sings well, but I agree with others that he is there to capure the sounds of the past.

Very poor spirit my friend. I've seen Journey live on different ocassions with both Steve and Arnel, and Journey is a great band with both of them. Both voices are sweet, powerfull and full of soul and emotion, the main difference is that Arnel has a lot more energy and charisma, Steve was good, but very little charisma and hardly moved on the stage, even when he was young he hardly moved. A rock star has to own the stage and sing his lungs off, and Arnel does just that..

Steve just walking on the stage, owned it, and it was all the charisma I needed. There was a special sound,style,feel,look, and power to Steve and there was no need for all the gymnastics. This is why they searched for so long to find something close to the magic of Steve Perry and "THE VOICE". Close, but no cigar. They are simply a tribute band now.

They stopped in '87 because Perry was tired of touring, then had a reunion in '96 and released Trial By Fire. Perry had injured his hip while hiking in Hawaii to prepare for the upcoming return of their classic lineup. That only option for him was to get major surgery, and the rest of the band wasn't willing to wait very long. The band decided to move on without Perry.
