All you need to work in a Car manufacturing is a diploma, and that may not be the case in all of them. Sometimes rank does not matter but it does matter more. Brand name does matter. However.. in the end.. although brand name is door opener... it is up to HOW you are WHO you are and if you are motivated.. so YOU... will make it matter and play a more influential role.
For me I went to a state school before transferring to a higher university... it was ridiculous for the tuition then for the financial aid package it was so much worse. I could of gotten better grants and more opportunities with a better programme at a higher ranked university.
I think some state schools are great but most are not. It depends though. In the state of California.. some are great many other okay. Like SFSU SJSU Sonoma state university SAC state SDSU... all good... they are perceived as well like to the UC public universities... almost as good as USC ... IDK... I am not too familiar with other state schools. I know in Washington state & New York state the state schools are well received and perceived. IDK.. I think look at the programme and everything.
I personally dislike state schools but it is an option to consider. However if you can go higher and pay for it, go higher and pay for it. It makes a massive difference in your experience and your life. I mean go somewhere that will give you the most opportunities and if you got a scholarship... go there. For example if you are a science major... looking for research assistant-ship or internship.. or/ & a lot of those opportunities... GO HIGH... state schools are just not geared towards that.
Nevermind studying biochem and working 80h-120h weeks in the lab as a poorly-funded cancer researcher. A better business choice / save yourself the academic/intellectual struggle - just study some ECON and become an investment banker.
@musicspinner BAD move. self interest. Keep studying biochemistry with hopes of contributing to finding an altogether solution to combat multi-million problems with cancer. HELP people HELP all humanity.
@8peregrint8 NO I do not think so. It is just the job market is not open or available for people of higher education and that maybe there is an increase in population that the job market is not meeting.
Thats Amazing... How Americans are absolutely clueless how things are going about ... I think the whole concept of youth is changing in the US. The same old Archies comics lifestyle no longer exists, anxiety and fear takes over the people in the United States and still claim Supremacy... Yawn**!! Yeah right!!
University debt is a trap designed to create brainwashed slaves. Speaking from experience, a degree means exactly NOTHING. One’s gender or one’s race for Affirmative Action, and whether one possess any Crime Family connections is what counts.
That graph is totally bogus. Those with degrees are still jobless but they are at least 4 years OLDER so they are vastly out of proportion to the high school grads who are still teenagers.
and so people can say their parents are wrong because their parents taught their kids something that worked for them? not really? So the parents are blaming the kids(quite literally)
@lordblazer Not really sure what you are trying to say.....many people were fed this dream by parents who DO NOT have degrees (like me), it's not about blame, just stating how follow what we are taught at times.
It's time for parents and kids to realize the paradigm has changed......sometimes that does not happen till you are hit in the face with it.......PEACE,,,,,,,,,
definitely agree with you there. I think though it's going to be a real challenged as to how people can better their lives in an economic environment that is seeking to set them up for failure. college or not.
I'm about to graduate with an MBA. I was told take out the loans, and get the degrees and I would earn the money to pay them back with no problem. Now I can't find a job and I'm about to graduate. I owe $140,000. College is without a doubt the worse mistake I've ever made in my life. I now have a choice. Leave the country or live as a debt slave for the rest of my life.
The economy is not ever going to pick up in these next coming years in fact it's going to get extremely worse, work hard, save your money, and get ready for a roller coaster ride in hell people,we are gonna go through the greatest depression ever seen pretty soon, college education is a priceless and enjoyable time that I will never get to experience,Sadly i'm going to have to keep working to survive next year after I graduate High school.
Your investment in that college degree might pay off if you lived in China. That's where most American jobs are being outsourced. Next is India and Pakistan. Not everyone wants to be a doctor, investment banker or lawyer. These jobs are the ones that are getting rich. doctors-medicare and insurance fraud, lawyers- will sue MacDonalds if they forgot your fries in that Happy Meal, Bankers- Oh, don't even get me started there with all the toxic loans they created.
yea a lot of Americans are living in Shanghai now and they're mostly young recent graduates.. About 200,000 Americans live in Shanghai, China. It is something worth considering. I'm not too interested in China, but am interested in Singapore as most of my network is there. Well mostly in Asia in general. Right now saving up doing grad. school and preparing to head back over seas for my career after a few yrs. I worked hard to network in an international direction.
PPL STOP COMPLAINING AND CREATE YOUR OWN JOBS NOW!!!!!!!!!!! STOP DEPENDING ON EMPLOYERS HIRING YOU. THE PROBLEM IS THAT STUDENTS GRADUATE FROM COLLEGE AND GET A FANCY DEGREE SO THEY CAN GET HIRED. NO ONE DOESN'T WANT TO CREATE JOBS ANYMORE PEOPLE JUST WANT TO WORK 4 SOMEBODY. THIS COUNTRY HAS NO INNOVATION. WHO CAN BLAME THEM OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS NEVER THOUGHT US HOW TO CREATE JOBS.
Dropping out of college was the best choice I maid in my life. Less stress in my life struggling with mid-terms and finals to graduate with a piece of paper.
What disgusting inbreed sick-O royalty did to their own English youth after plundering them was to ENSLAVE them into what was to be a permanent indentured servitude, forced them onto dangerously packed ships, and then involuntarily transported them to be chattel for colony farms.
This is the same slavery program, neatly dressed up as “responsibility.”
There is no money in circulation. Irredeemable debt currency is not money, it is a fraud. God damn bankers have already stolen EVERYTHING, and put the taxpayers (read: slaves) into TRILLIONS of debt that will never be paid down.
Bankers spent all that on themselves by shipping all factories overseas as their own personal property, and now students are up to their eyeballs in a debt for a worthless degree.
You should not educate yourself into what you want or wish to understand, you should educate into what gives your the most money to pay debt and perhaps have your "life" that the media tells you is a "life" with justin beiber on the wall.
yea it is quite fucked up, and to be honest you can get a job with a Women's Studies degree. Do some research. lots of NGOs and non-profits are out there, that is the type of work you will be doing with that degree. there is no shame in it, you can even go into education with that degree. Or into a research position in marketing or in academia or for a think-tank. But yea you probably can't get a corporate job with it. But corporate jobs are overrated. and pay peanuts too.
MAJOR IN MEDIC, IT, ACCOUNTANT OR ENGINEER AND YOU'LL BE FINE. MAJOR IN ANYTHING ELSE LIKE ART, MUSIC, SOCIOLOGY, ETC YOUR DONE. YOU NEED TO SURVIVE NOT FIND PASSION. AMERICAN DREAM IS DEAD.
@MRTEL7777 even those will become useless at some point since the fields will become oversaturated eventually. Where i live there are so many tech people and nurses that it pays more to work at a a part time mall job.
@SRT480 mate i agree with you but being a nurse and being a doctor are completely different positions. obtaining a medical degree is valuable because you can also specify yourself afterwards in niche fields such as neurosurgeon, research in pathology or whatever.
CAPITALISM creates ELITE CRIMINALS. BANKERS. DRUG LORDS. INEQUALITY. INSECURITY. GREED. RUTHLESS COMMUNISM. NWO. NAZI. TERRORISM. LAZY PEOPLE. REBEL POLITICIAN. ANARCHY. worst is WAR etc.. etc..
CAPITALISM was designed only for CORRUPT OPPORTUNISTIC MANIPULATIVE LAZY POLITICIAN. BANKERS. LAWYERS. DRUG LORDS. JUDGES. CRIMINALS. DICTATORS. RULERS. KING. SULTANATE. EMPEROR etc. etc..
HARD WORKING PEACE LOVING HAPPY HONEST SOCIETY were always the slave victim and poorly starve to death. :(
This is tormenting to read because I wanted to hustle on my own and exhibit my artistic talents, but I'm stuck here in community college failing almost all of my classes just to study for an accounting career that I do not have much interest in.
@MRTEL7777 Actually, even engineers are now finding it hard to get work. I have a BS EET and I, my college, and the VA have sent out thousands of resumes with no result.
A VA career rep said that there are alot of companies that say they are hiring, collect resumes and then don't hire anyone. They just transfer people from one part of the company to the other.
@arch571332 It really depends on where you live. I have the same problem with my BS in Nursing. I wasn't able to get any jobs in California, but there were plenty of offers for me in Arizona, Texas, ect.
Education and training is very important. It wasn't very long ago that any college degree would get you a job. So, let's not pile on top of people who decided to study what they liked instead of studying accounting.
I think people should still get an education, but get the first two years at a local community college. It also wouldn't hurt to learn a blue-collar skill.
@WinThePennant Most community colleges teach the same THING! the only problem is transferring could possible set you a year back but in the end you will come out cheaper.
Best advice for high school graduates--forget college and university, get something practical and useful (plumber, electrician, stationary engineer, diesel mechanic, HVAC...) that you can do with your own hands. Degrees and diplomas are all bullshit, you'll be a dime-a-dozen.
@Cubatraveler i agree with you to some extent but the thing is you can't be a doctor or a lawyer without college degree. college certainly isn't for everything but saying it's not for anyone is just bs. people who think they'll be guaranteed a job right after college are just stupid or naive.
@FlankerVT college is not a scam. how the you are is a scam. higher education is the access point to pull many people out of poverty and to equip them with information to combat social problems. I think paying for college is a massive problem BUT this should not deter you. Republicans want you to not access higher education to stay illiterate and not to informed to not be empowered. Why give in. Are you a republican?
Business Administration is still a good degree because I got one. I am lucky because majority of my family are managers and own businesses. I am working at the IRS as an Office Aide, but I am aiming at a better position in the future. I got an interview in 2 weeks because I know what employers want. It's about skills and who can work the fastest without making mistakes. Networking is another valuable tool that people need to keep in mind. I didn't make a very high GPA, but I know someone.
I'm for finding the middle ground. I think that, if you WANT to, you should get that education BUT PLAY IT RIGHT. I'm going to go to college, have my family chip in during the school years to pay off most of it, and I'll work part-time over the summers to earn the rest of the money. I'll apply for a scholarship of course, but if I don't get one that's what I'll do. Then I'll take a year off to decide if pursuing a master's and doctorate degree is worth it. That's what my heart truly wants. :) <3
Its very interested that a stupid video showing someone getting drunk, doing some dumb stunts, or etc gets hundreds of thousands of views and a video about education or college issues does not receive less than 10,000 views.
Students better trash those conventional belief of obtaining a degree, Phd, or MBA from prestigious Uni = obtaining a job. Things are altered especially after bust of lehman bros. Study will go on. Get another IT certificates or anything u can acquire within ur knowledge that company wants. Learn how to b sincerity and all other interview strategies.
given the way the economy is going, it's not going to matter the degree people have, unless its health care. business administration, english, psychology, sociology, numerous unemployed. even teachers are protesting and being laid off.
Please join the move to oust Dr. Amy Gutmann, at the University of Pennsylvania, from her position as president, because in this economy, money is a terrible thing to waste.
Ana Kasparian is apparently just another deliberately dumbed down empowered politically correct zombie who was indoctrinated into fake history and bogus "social" theories. She claims the economy is going to get better without offering a scintilla of economic evidence. Dumbed down!
@pkpapers it's just a simple fact of economics. She doesn't need to give you an evidence that tomorrow will come, you just know there's gonna be a tomorrow.
The economy operates in ebbs and flows, that's the way it has always been.
It is important to choose your degree wisely but there are very few jobs now. Her advise would have been useful to people ten years ago. I live in Pa and last year a local hospital laided off nurses! There is no safe degree. It doesn't matter what you dicide to study in college. Certainly a degree in Womens Studies is a poor choice but so is everything else these days.
@lillybart123 I agree. There are plenty of nurses and computer experts looking for jobs not just womans studies majors. All degrees seem to suck now be it Chemistry or political science doesnt matter
No offense to the story, but the person being interviewed had nothing important to say or anything that people haven't heard. Saying the economy will get better is easy to say when you have a comfy job to rely on.
If you want to prepare kids for what it is like to spend thousands on a college degree the best way is to have them intern for gay porn, at least then they may get a kiss before getting fucked in the ass!
Ana is so on point. If you're gonna go back to get a Master's, or better yet, start your Bachelors degree you should treat it as a business deal. However, this is my philosophy, for your Bachelor's degree, you could be a little bit more flexible with what you decide to study/major in, and more importantly, it should just be about discovering yourself and getting good GPA. However, when it comes to the MA or MS, most definitely should be a business decision and nothing less.
The economy won't get better. They should read the US Constitution and forget all the garbage they learned in the liberal brainwashing institutes that teach nothing. Join a militia and get involved in the future.
I still live at home with my Mom while I go to college because I would hate to finish college have all these loans and the only thing I can show for it is the exact same kind of Job i had before going intio college
Facts are many US high profile corporations have been outsourced and 'sold' to china and india. It's just a natural result what is happening here Ana. In my opinion toddler should start learning chinese and hindi if they want a job after graduating college or university.
women should remain home and take care of the kids so sufficient jobs are left to men which by then will be able to take up their natural role as head of the family !
all i could think of watching ana is what she was sitting on, and how does it compare to kardashian's, and why does she do this- is there a self image problem? and what was the image left on the seat?
Wow, that is so sad. It's funny how our whole lives, they told us that as long as we stay in school and get our degrees, we can be anything. Not so for those who make up the statistics in this graph. I want to be at least a community college instructor of literature, so HOPEFULLY if I go for my MA it will pay off... but the way things are, who knows? And yes, state colleges are the way to take such a risk!
shit I got a bachelor's and I am sitll delivering pizzas. Even my own mother stated that America is turning into another Mexico. It is all about who you know now. BTw anybody else having dirty thoughts because of the host pendant? =)
Correlation does not equal causation. The types of people who graduate college were more likely to succeed in the first place than those who dropped out of high school.

I could of gotten better grants and more opportunities with a better programme at a higher ranked university.
kazakhstanmkj 4 months ago
I think some state schools are great but most are not. It depends though. In the state of California.. some are great many other okay. Like SFSU SJSU Sonoma state university SAC state SDSU... all good... they are perceived as well like to the UC public universities... almost as good as USC ... IDK... I am not too familiar with other state schools. I know in Washington state & New York state the state schools are well received and perceived. IDK.. I think look at the programme and everything.
kazakhstanmkj 4 months ago
I personally dislike state schools but it is an option to consider. However if you can go higher and pay for it, go higher and pay for it. It makes a massive difference in your experience and your life. I mean go somewhere that will give you the most opportunities and if you got a scholarship... go there. For example if you are a science major... looking for research assistant-ship or internship.. or/ & a lot of those opportunities... GO HIGH... state schools are just not geared towards that.

@lordblazer Not really sure what you are trying to say.....many people were fed this dream by parents who DO NOT have degrees (like me), it's not about blame, just stating how follow what we are taught at times.

I didn't make a very high GPA, but I know someone.
jenkinst3 10 months ago
I'm for finding the middle ground. I think that, if you WANT to, you should get that education BUT PLAY IT RIGHT. I'm going to go to college, have my family chip in during the school years to pay off most of it, and I'll work part-time over the summers to earn the rest of the money. I'll apply for a scholarship of course, but if I don't get one that's what I'll do. Then I'll take a year off to decide if pursuing a master's and doctorate degree is worth it. That's what my heart truly wants. :) <3
