Threading can also contribute to ingrown hairs. The issue is that the new hair shaft can get diverted as it is trying to find its way up the follicular channel. Since it pulls out the hair and a new one has to grow again, it's a problem. Similarly, waxing and sugaring do the same. Ditto for the mechanical epilators.
