Did you know the Bible was really put together and canonized by the Catholic church 400 A.D.? Why would the very basis and most important part of Christianity not come from our Lords church. Look at the facts the Eastern Orthodox broke off in 300 A.D. and the Assyrian Orthodox broke away at a council in 500 A.D. you cannot say otherwise. The Catholic church is the first church.

Also... you can't use verses from Hebrew law to prove things. The old covenent was replaced with the new one with Christ.

Nestorius rejected calling Mary the Mother of God because he rejected the Incarnation. Mary gave birth to Jesus who is one undivided person with two natures: human and divine. To say Mary only gave birth to the human nature is to deny that Jesus is one undivided person with two natures. Therefore, you worship a false Jesus.

Read the Didache and the early Church fathers like Ignatius of Antioch, Clement of Rome, Ireneus of Lyon to name a few. Read more about Nestorianism for your issue about Mary being called Mother of God, and read about the icons found in the catecombs for your issue about icons and use of religious imagery in early Christianity. Also, read Scripture of course.

The Bible tells us that Sacred Apostolic Tradition is to be followed alongside Sacred Scripture. This fact is CLEARLY stated in 2 Thessalonians 2:15 and 3:6. The early Christians did not have their own Bible. Bibles were rare and the official canon wasn't determined until 393 A.D. at the Council of Hippo.

Sola Scriptura has led to countless Protestant sects and divisions. The Christians for the first four centuries didn't even have an official canon of the New Testament. Now you do realize the scripture they were studying was the Old Testament, correct? Per that scripture, the messiah had not yet arrived - they compared the prophesies. There would be no New Testament for hundreds of years.
Anything they learned of Christ's coming was gleaned thru word of mouth and any apostles' letters they might be lucky enough to have had at the time.

@For3nity The most misunderstood verse in the catholic Religion. Matthew 16:18. Jesus spoke about this as a parable to Peter's profession to Christ. The Peter's faith is what was being spoken of here. Not Peter being the rock. Please take time and read many commentaries that are available and see the truth for yourself. It's after Peter said his "rock" faith in Mat 16:16 that Jesus is the Son of Living God Jesus said He will build His Church on that "rock faith", which is represented by Peter. It's crystal clear in the Bible that Jesus appointed Peter as the leader of His Church. Read also Act 15:2,6,7.

We all know that Christ is the base or corner stone of Christian faith, not Peter. But a Church needs a leader, as your church needs a pastor.That's why Christ appointed Peter as the leader (John 21:15-17, Mat 16:18) and gave him authority (keys - Mat 16:19). History shows us that with a leader, the Church has been able to maintain the true faith for +/- 2000 yrs. Without a leader you know the rest of the story(33,000+ denom.)

@For3nity Hope all is well. The Church that is referenced is the body of the Church or the assembly of Christians. These verses are in reference to a brother that trespasses against another brother. He is first approached by the offended and if not settled then you take two or three and if he does not repent you take the staff like deacon, elders or pastor. If notthing is resolved he has to be removed form the assembly not to infect the others. Like cancer in your body, it must be removed.

The individual church leader is a shepard over his flock but Christ is the Great Shepard Heb 13:10. In 1 Tim 3 it is laid out the requirements of of those in service. Leaders no matter what denomination should be examined completely to ensure correct doctrine. As per the God's Word the Bible as it is.

What I have read about Ratzinger has made me realize that the Catholic Religion is not a denomiation but completely different religion all together. Worshipping Mary? Praying to the Saints? Sacrifice of Christ over and over again through the Eucharist. Priest bringing Christ down from Heaven in the waffer to be eaten? All the do's in that religion will not get anyone to Heaven. The trinity has become the holy quartet, They believe that prayers made to Mary will be answered. Mary then will go on your behalf to Jesus. How can a son deny his mother? Anyway, look up St. Alphonsus Di Liguori and the Glories or Mary. Communion is believed to be the eating of the body and drinking of the blood of Christ, literally. Read the Counsel of Trent
@godserv2011 I am also an ex-Catholic. We never worshipped Mary. There was just a deep honor for her, just as Jesus honored her. Never worship. As for Communion, the literal Presence of Christ in the Eucharist was believed by ALL Christians for the first 1500 years before the Reformation. The Council of Trent just gave a legalistic definition of the Real Presence called Transubstantiation. Orthodox Christians still believe in the Real Presence but consider it a Mystery. We don't define it.

Mary did not give birth merely to a human nature, but to a person, the Son of God who took from her flesh a pure human nature. She is Theotokos.

Many of your belifs are unbiblical. Take Sola Scriptura. Where in the Bible does it say the Bible alone. In fact the Bible says 'So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter'. Notice the word of mouth i.e. sacred tradition.

For over 300 there was NO bible - only tradition and a few epistles and gospels floating around - some widely used but heretical, which is WHY the church determined canonicity and assembled the bible.
Those books the RCC "invented" WERE in the bible for over 1500 years. FACT. They are even in the first printed bible - Guttenburg's of c 1455.

And you will see the Catholic/Lutheran listing is the same as the Jewish except for "I am the God who delivered you out of Egypt" has been dropped, and included is more biblical details on the 9th & 10th.

Did you know the Bible was really put together and canonized by the Catholic church 400 A.D.? Why would the very basis and most important part of Christianity not come from our Lords church. Look at the facts the Eastern Orthodox broke off in 300 A.D. and the Assyrian Orthodox broke away at a council in 500 A.D. you cannot say otherwise. The Catholic church is the first church.

Also look at John 19:25-27(all in kjb) even Peter later on in the bible tells the apostles that Christ entrusted us with his mother. Why would he do such a thing if Mary was not important. Do you understand fully what the Catholic Church is? Have you ever ACTUALLY been to a Catholic church? We DO profess that Jesus is our savior, God, and king and that his sacrifice on the cross was and is sufficient in clensing of our sins. Our Mass is the re-presentation of the sacrifice, a sign of the sacrifice's presence in all ages. It's not a re-creation of the sacrifice. Also... you can't use verses from Hebrew law to prove things. The old covenent was replaced with the new one with Christ.

Either both are literal or both are figurative. By rejecting the Real Presence, you reject Christ's humanity. By condemning icons of Jesus as idolatry you reject Jesus' humanity. By refusing to call Mary the Mother of God you also reject the Incarnation. Because you reject the Incarnation, you aren't Christian.

Nestorius rejected calling Mary the Mother of God because he rejected the Incarnation. Mary gave birth to Jesus who is one undivided person with two natures: human and divine. To say Mary only gave birth to the human nature is to deny that Jesus is one undivided person with two natures. Therefore, you worship a false Jesus.

Read the Didache and the early Church fathers like Ignatius of Antioch, Clement of Rome, Ireneus of Lyon to name a few. Read more about Nestorianism for your issue about Mary being called Mother of God, and read about the icons found in the catecombs for your issue about icons and use of religious imagery in early Christianity. Also, read Scripture of course.

The early Christians did not have their own Bible. Bibles were rare and the official canon wasn't determined until 393 A.D. at the Council of Hippo.

@dan316316316 Out of context? Really? How are they out of context? Under what authority do you have to privately interpret the Bible? Sola Scriptura has led to countless Protestant sects and divisions. The Christians for the first four centuries didn't even have an official canon of the New Testament. Hardly anyone owned a Bible because they were so rare. There was no printing press. All were hand-written. Christians had to rely on bishops who were the authority of the Church.

Now you do realize the scripture they were studying was the Old Testament, correct? Per that scripture, the messiah had not yet arrived - they compared the prophesies. There would be no New Testament for hundreds of years.
Anything they learned of Christ's coming was gleaned thru word of mouth and any apostles' letters they might be lucky enough to have had at the time.

In fact we believe this so much that bread and wine is transfigured into the body and blood of Christ on Catholic altars worldwide on a daily basis. We receive him, body and blood, soul and divinity in communion. If that's not Christian, then what is?

@monkeyman3895 Nothing wrong with attending services on Sunday, but it is not a requirement for salvation. I was raised Catholic also, but the Catholic church is NOT the universal church spoken of in the Bible as it claims to be, The following things will not save you:
1) Bible knowledge
2) Good Works
3) Church attendance
4) Religious rituals
Only faith in Jesus Christ opens the door to salvation.

Unfortunately, the Catholic Church says that faith in Jesus Christ is not enough--this is the Catholic Church's stumbling block. Yes, Christians are expected to do good works, but it is not requirement. Salvation is a gift from God (Ephesians 2:8-9) The only "requirement" is inviting Jesus Christ into your heart (Romans 10:9-10)

Stupid stupid stupid... The original Church of Christ is the Roman Catholic Church. Without the Catholic Church there would be no such thing as Christianity. Ergo, God used the Catholic Church to spread His word. The Catholic Church is the Bride of Christ... The Church is filled with human beings. Not one human being is sinless. To tear down the entire Church and to make your own because of some really bad apples is like tearing down the U.S Government because of some crooked Senators. Stupid.

The first Church was made of of practicing Jews, and the whole monstrocity and traditions that make up the catholic church really came to a head in the days of Constantine. This is common knowledge, catholicism is a hybrid of Christian and pagan ideas, it is a bastardizaton of true Christianity and it is full of contradicitons against the Bible

The Apostle Peter was not their pope. Yes, we are all born into sin and Jesus Christ is the only sinless man who ever walked the face of the Earth and it is unfortunate that the Catholic Church has deceived so many into believing that the Catholic represents the true Church of Christ--it doesn't.

Most Catholics do not even know what Catholicism is. Writingsof St. Alphonsus de Liguori in the Glories of Mary, the Counsil of Trent and even the writings of Benedict, Ratzinger before becoming pope will show you exactly what the church is all about. Catholics I urge you to read into these writings. You will be shocked at the truth of the Catholic church. It is a system that is nowhere near the truth of the Bible. They have blasphemed the Word of God. Paganism at it's finest.

@For3nity The most misunderstood verse in the catholic Religion. Matthew 16:18. Jesus spoke about this as a parable to Peter's profession to Christ. The Peter's faith is what was being spoken of here. Not Peter being the rock. Please take time and read many commentaries that are available and see the truth for yourself. Do not take my word for it. It is as clear as it gets.

It's after Peter said his "rock" faith in Mat 16:16 that Jesus is the Son of Living God Jesus said He will build His Church on that "rock faith", which is represented by Peter. It's confirmed in Mat 16:19 where Jesus gave Peter the keys to bind and to loose. In John 21:15-17 Peter was also to feed (to lead) Jesus' lambs. It's crystal clear in the Bible that Jesus appointed Peter as the leader of His Church. Read also Act 15:2,6,7.

@For3nity First I really enjoy this. Challenging. Anyway, Peter, petros meaning small stone John 1:42, Jesus uses a play on words. In the NT it is perfectly clear that the foundation of the church is Christ (Acts 4:11,12; 1 Cor 3:11) not Peter. Also, Christ is the Head (Eph 5:23) of the church. It is a mistake to think Jesus was giving that role to Peter. Peter himslef explains it in 1 Peter 2:5 that the church is built of "living stones" where Christ is the cornerstone (1 Peter 2:6,7)

We all know that Christ is the base or corner stone of Christian faith, not Peter. But a Church needs a leader, as your church needs a pastor.That's why Christ appointed Peter as the leader (John 21:15-17, Mat 16:18) and gave him authority (keys - Mat 16:19). History shows us that with a leader, the Church has been able to maintain the true faith for +/- 2000 yrs. Without a leader you know the rest of the story(33,000+ denom.)

@For3nity When the Saviour says, therefore, he will give to Peter the keys of the kingdom of heaven, he means that he will make him the instrument of opening the door of faith to the world the first to preach the gospel to both Jews and Gentiles. This was done, Acts 2:14-36; 10. The "power of the keys" was given, on this occasion, to Peter alone, solely for this reason; the power of "binding and loosing" on earth was given to the other apostles with him. See Matthew 18:18.

@For3nity Hope all is well. The Church that is referenced is the body of the Church or the assembly of Christians. These verses are in reference to a brother that trespasses against another brother. He is first approached by the offended and if not settled then you take two or three and if he does not repent you take the staff like deacon, elders or pastor. If notthing is resolved he has to be removed form the assembly not to infect the others. Like cancer in your body, it must be removed.

@For3nity The 33,000 have had leaders also. When the doctrine gets distorted and opinions not truths take over then the issue of false religions arise. Many are out there. The individual church leader is a shepard over his flock but Christ is the Great Shepard Heb 13:10. In 1 Tim 3 it is laid out the requirements of of those in service. Leaders no matter what denomination should be examined completely to ensure correct doctrine. As per the God's Word the Bible as it is.

@godserv2011 The Catholic Church obeys 1 Tim 3. And we are to obey 1Tim3:15. The 33,000 is only OK if all teach the same doctrine...which is not in our case. As you said, their leaders should be examined completely to ensure correct doctrine...but correct according to whom? Can you imagine if there is no single authority available to ensure the correct doctrine? What will happen? Only chaos...all will claim they are right....the result is that 33,000+ contradicting denominations.

@For3nity The authority is the Word of God. I fully understand where you are coming from. I was there. But the Word is absolute and true. Doctrine has to be correct in it grammatical sense. OT in Hebrew and NT in Greek. When each word is examined in a verse, and translated properly it becomes clearer. Language changes over time and english words meanings change. It is very easy to compromise the truth. Also, verses can be twisted to cater to any wacky belief system. Prosperity Pimps

The question is: who is supposed to correctly interpret the Word of God? The Bible says it's the Church. Which Church if we have 33,000+ churches with different interpretation? Jesus promised the guidance of Holy Spirit to ALL truth to the Apostles...which later on became the Bishops of the Church He founded....the Catholic Church. It became Apostolic Tradition.

Mark 8:34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Everyday it is a battle with our flesh and we are to deny satisfying those desires, stay focused on Him and finish the race. By His Mercy we are alive and by His grace we live! Take care.

@182RG The definition of the word Church alone is not correctly translated by the Catholics. What I have read about Ratzinger has made me realize that the Catholic Religion is not a denomiation but completely different religion all together. Worshipping Mary? Praying to the Saints? Sacrifice of Christ over and over again through the Eucharist. Priest bringing Christ down from Heaven in the waffer to be eaten? All the do's in that religion will not get anyone to Heaven. It's already DONE!

@magnus56j I am an ex-Catholic. We did worship Mary. Many prayers and the rosary. The Catholics hold Mary in a high position. The trinity has become the holy quartet, They believe that prayers made to Mary will be answered. Mary then will go on your behalf to Jesus. How can a son deny his mother? Anyway, look up St. Alphonsus Di Liguori and the Glories or Mary. Communion is believed to be the eating of the body and drinking of the blood of Christ, literally. Read the Counsel of Trent

@godserv2011 I am also an ex-Catholic. We never worshipped Mary. There was just a deep honor for her, just as Jesus honored her. Never worship. As for Communion, the literal Presence of Christ in the Eucharist was believed by ALL Christians for the first 1500 years before the Reformation. The Council of Trent just gave a legalistic definition of the Real Presence called Transubstantiation. Orthodox Christians still believe in the Real Presence but consider it a Mystery. We don't define it.

Each town has one. They also beat themselves to a pulp re-enacting what Christ went through. As for Mary, in scripture there is no metion that we have to hold her in such high regards as they do. Holy Mary, Mother of God? She is not the monther of God. She aslo, is not holy, there is none, no not one!

@godserv2011 She's the mother of God in time, obviously not from all eternity. Why do you think it is so wrong to honor the mother of our Savior? If you deny Mary is the Mother of God, you deny the Incarnation. That would mean you are not Christian. By denying Theotokos you either say that Jesus is not God or that Jesus is two persons instead of one. Mary did not give birth merely to a human nature, but to a person, the Son of God who took from her flesh a pure human nature. She is Theotokos.

@godserv2011 Not holy "on earth" mind you..once assumed into heaven? I think yes. While on earth she was the Mother of Jesus who was God in human form; agree or disagree? Matthew's genealogy? Anyone? anyone? Think about the context in which prayers are being written..of course she's not God's mother in heaven for God has always been..it is supposed to refer to her time here on earth.
