@KatiKuusisto This is actually pretty close to the studio one. They were a great live band. I'm surprised more vids aren't up from their 1977 classic LP? Maybe copyright issues? I'll try putting this song up and see.
I think you're all missing the point, which is...it isn't dead. The chord progression isn't any more or less complex than a lot of the other Rubinoos material...it's just played in a different style. You can't judge how good a song is by how many chords are in it anyway! I always felt that what they were saying is that even though they play pretty pop songs with harmonies they still can't resist kicking out the jams once in awhile. That's the point!
Don't agree with family cat but he does have a point - this is just a very tired old basic rock riff - nothin' to it. I Wanna be Your Boyfriend - now THAT was great powerpop! Anyone got the clip? PLEASE!!!
So happy to see this again. It was on a special OGWT - '78 I think - which was a Beserkley label showcase with lots of other labelmates. At the end, all the bands come on stage together - for a joyous reprise of this song (I think). Half the bands just jump around pretending to play tennis rackets. Thank you so much for posting this.
Circa 1977. They were on the Bezerkley label out of you guessed it Berkeley CA. This label also likcked off the careers of Jonathin Richmond, Greg Kihn and Earth Quake
