This is not Metallica. Jame's voice is not this smooth nor harmonic, yet. He has a vocal teacher, and has come a long way from the '83-'90 era. Back then, his voice was a high-pitched that metal heads loved during Jame's time. Now, he has been practicing, both harmonizing and free style singing. I believe Death Magnetic did not catch on was, due to the way James and the band actually harmonized in certain parts of song, plus the crappy sound of the drums. It's a loudness war, overall.
