A new music book is being published called 'You Are A Tube!' compiled by Steven Fried PLC. This publication contains literally thousands of comments from YouTube.
@jldouglas1985 No, it's from American Beauty and is called "Any Other Name", but Shawshank Redemption is by the same composer: Thomas Newman. The title you have in mind is called "Brooks Was Here".
@krau78 OMG! It took me days to figure out where I heard this song, and I said "American Beauty" and I have only seen the movie once. I feel pretty good that I remembered, like I said it took me a while. Love this! = )
hmm (couldnt remembber 1st tought its kpax but ppl u got me straight) american beauty i cried at the end :/ very emotional music it is exactly what ppl need to listen from time to time good to thinking of hard things
This is not music. It is a string of uncanny melody that takes you to another place in time. All you need is a clear sky and a little bit of imagination for this melody to take you on a journey deep into completely different world.
I agree, but as humans we have that one charachteristic. No matter how charitable we may be, and may feel, we will always have that "look after number one" idea in the back of our heads. It's a standard survival trait of ours i guess. So there will always be people alot worse off. Yeah i know what you mean about miscommunication, no animosity back at you (Y)
This song makes me view death in such a positive light, because of how it is used in the closing sequence of American Beauty. A beautiful end to a beautiful journey.
@lankyj91 Absolutely...none on my end either. Text has a way of miscommunicating things sometimes and I didn't mean any animosity or to antagonize you at all. I just think it's important to recognize how lucky we are compared to a lot of people on Earth, and Thanksgiving emphasized that for me.
hey it is mostly known from the film "american Beauty", but yea, The Shawshank Redemption is also the film, where ive heard it first, should be pretty at the end of the film when he is finally free
This song reminds me that we live in a dark and cruel world but yet there is beauty all around us. It makes me want to hug myself and promise that everything will be ok.
Since I'm still a kid, sort of, this song helps me focus and all. Especially wen. It comes to reading books ad stories and writing. And doing the occasional boring piece of homework.
Such a beautiful song...have been hooked since I first watched American Beauty! This song takes me back to a much simpler place in time-my childhood. A time when there were no responsibilities, no deadlines, no bills to pay, no adulthood!--Just good, innocent fun that came with being a kid...happiness. Enjoy! ;)
@Bakersville05 I know what you mean man... Being 5 or 6 years old just running around... I'm 18, nearly 19 now and wondering where my childhood has gone. I think back to events which happened when I was younger, and they happened 10-15 years ago... Yet they seem only a few years ago.
Sometimes we are so much used to the word of #WIN that when we lose something, our mind do not accept the failure! This song makes me realize when I lose something or someone!
Sometimes it makes me sad though, Andy being gone. I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice. But still, the the place you live in is that much more drab and empty now they are gone. I guess I just miss my friend.
This reminds me if you are standing at night leaning On a wall looking at the ocean shimmer in the moon light in deep thought. A very peaceful and mysterious piece of music. 5stars
Someone wrote: "I want to have this at my funeral".
This is really an amazing peace of music. So simple und deep. It has a Satie-like simplicity and sometimes the spiritual quality of a gregorian chant. Beautiful.
I think this song was also used in the movie Shawshank Redemption nearly at the end, where Red says that beautiful birds should not be caged? Or am I wrong?
@kflze very unlikely, because this song was specifically composed for "American Beauty", and ive never heard of one movie using music that was made specifically for another movie.
It was used near the end of the 2007? New Zealand made movie "Out of the Blue" that was based on a true story about the Aramoana shootings in 1990, near Dunedin.
Listening to this, and seeing those pictures, it really shows there is some beauty in the world. Just a great song, pulls yourself outside of everything going on its just great.
i have heard the same chords of the beginning of this song in somewhere else... anyone knows if this is inspired by some other piece? or if there are some other pieces inspired by this one??
I'm obsessed with dubstep, drum n bass, rock, grime etc like most people but none have the effect that this song does. Incredible, my favourite song of all time. Also love Einaudi (Divenire and Primevera), and Requiem for a dream.
i have no words to describe this song....it always brings tears in my eyes, without making me sad...if i would ever create one, JUST ONE piece of music like this, i'd die with a smile on my face...
Then i remember to relax and stop trying to hold onto it, and it flows through me like rain and i cant feel anything but gratitude for every moment of my stupid little life. you have no idea what im talking about im sure, but dont worry. you will someday"
I guess i could be pretty pissed off about what happened to me, but its hard to stay mad when there;s so much beauty in the world. Sometimes i feel like im seeing it all at once and its too much, my heart fills up like a balloon thats about to burst.
"they say the second before you die your whole life flashes in front of your eyes.First of all that one second, isnt a second at all, it stretches forward like an ocean of time. For me it was lieing on my back at boyscout camp, watching falling stars and the yellow leaves of the maple trees that lined our street. or my grandmothers hands and the way her skin always seemed like paper. or the first time i saw my cousin tonys brand new firebird. and janie and carolyn.
The images are so effortlessly weaved through the haunting sounds of the piano....like Dexi..there is a sense of space..wandering....emptiness and overwhelming peace. When gazing in awe at 'beauty' you can only but breathe....and wonder.
an absolutely beautiful song with pictures as pretty and beautiful like you're right in front of it. This is the type of song that makes you close your eyes and just think for a moment. I have never seen the film that has this piece in, but I always know the song... well done SG for creating this, and also thank you.
I went to bed one night, woke up to this song. My mind went from wtf? To, this is so amazing and beautiful. Now, I listen to it and I think. The best thinking song. Amazing photo at 2:26
I can't find the words to express how much I love this song. It is an amazing composition. I want to have this at my funeral. Cheerful of me, I know, but I do love it. It's reminiscent with a hint of optimism. Sounds like a fragrance!
One day i'll blow speakers off with this song! Hope that day will be soon..gotta find the right equipment first. Floating in a dimension with no time and condition - yeah that's what i "see" while listening this.
