And I love Chris Difford too. His lyrics are mostly wry with down to earth observations about everyday life. His underpinning voice is what gives Squeeze that sound.
Glenn Tilbrook is also an amazing, if underrated, lead guitarist. Been listening to the Cool for cats album again, & some of his stuff is right up there with the best.
I was there just a couple of rows in front of Glenn. Imagine my dismay when my camera gave up the ghost after one pic and a 5 second video! Gutted is not the word.
Glenn Tilbrook is one of the best songwriters, ever.
I spent one winter (83) glued to my headphones, listening to every nook and cranny of just about every Squeeze song I could get my hands on.
The great musicians meant so much to me growing up, made such a huge difference in my life, and they help us articulate the frustration we feel with our government, our lives, and move us to change, make the world a better place, even if they do so inadvertently.
Yes, but I suppose as a kid, I always focused on Tilbrook, or his musicality made a stronger impression on me, more so than Difford's lyrics, which I found cumbersome, and thick, pretentious, at times.
I think it had more to do with a certain joy I heard in Tilbrook's musical expression.
But I do like Difford, too, this was my opinion as a young girl.
I thought you meant just as a songwriter, not a performer.A seducer, if you will. His sincere, soulful, melodious, witty, rocking style is all his own. That's for sure. I learned almost all the tunes on the Singles record for a band I used to be in. More people were listening to that when I was in high school than Sgt. Pepper. Musicians included. That CD must be mega platinum or something by now.
What a gig, I was at the front, right in front of Chris, along with my girlfriend who is also a big fan and that was her first ever Squeeze gig! It's been too long roll on November at Hammersmith. Highlight was Slap & Tickle, rock on!
Fantastic Gig! Super songs, super performance! Thanks for posting! Did anyone video 'Walk Away' - the highlight of the gig for me - absolutely brilliant!!!!! Thanks to Glenn, Chris, Simon, Stephen and John for a great evening! Cheers then.....!
