My first cell was a motorola and it was an old flip phone that didn't have a color screen. It was grey, green, and black. I still have it too lol. I was thinking of getting a Karma because it seems to be very basic with few added handy quirks.
I have read negative reviews of the impression. In general, I've heard that Samsung does not stand behind their phones. That is, if something doesn't work on the phone, don't count on them to release an update to fix it. As far as talk time, I'd read about 4 to 5.2 hours. I don't think anyone sits there with a stopwatch ...except the manufacturer, so I'd trust Motorola. I have had nothing but great experience with Motorola phones, including the DROID.
Very thorough review thank you...I was going to get this for my 14 yo son who is a big texter but am now hesitating based on your review. My question is what AT&T phone would you reccomend for texting mostly? He likes a slider and wants a full qwerty keyboard with no lagging issues.
@qwazr I'd say this Karma would make a great phone for him. It has a full QWERTY keyboard that makes texting easy. The Karma is a slider and a qwerty as well. It's right up his alley.
i gave a 1 star rating BECAUSE anyone can give a review looking at a picture a specs. I want someone to hold it and use it, then tell whats going on. your a tube whore looking for attention.
@use76uyygn wow...do you mind calming down a bit ? he is not just reading the specs. you can obviously tell that from the video...and even if he was your comment was unnecessary you need to chill
I decided to switch from T-Mobile over to AT&T here today. I got approved for this phone. I've always wanted a phone like this since my friend had the Motorola Hint. Its suppose to be here on Tuesday. :)
@slowtherush I'm sure the phone will work well for you, but good luck with AT&T - they are a mess to keep up with, changing things constantly to make it confusing and hard to understand / keep up with. Just be careful with them...their fees and plan options change often.
This Karma is better for texting than browsing the internet. Most social media allow you to post updates via text message. The karma allows you to do this without an expensive unlimited data connection. The karma is NOT a smartphone and does not require an unlimited data plan; it's great for texters. :)
i got this phone cause my mom setted up a family plan 700 mins and unlimited family text ? when i look at the unlimited family text do i get to text other pple with other service providers besides att?
Well i want this sooo bad but like my dad is crazy over the texting and internet cost so like what would be the best package for this? id mostly call, text, and go on the web IF im super bored when we go on 2 hr trips.
Well, AT&T changes things all the time to keep customers "happy." The last change I remember, "based on customer survey" (they never asked me!), was the cheapest text messaging package was 9.99 for 1000 messages. Curious, I checked again, and now you can get 200 for $5 and 1500 for $15. See, they do this to exploit people. Most people would rather pay 10 than have none...or pay 15 for 1500, knowing they'd go over with only 200. I'd get the 1500 package, but I don't know your usage history...
Just so you know, AT&T once offered 400 text messages for $5. No longer. They constantly change it in order to create chaos, which most customers respond to with just forking over more money because it's so complicated. Your dad is wise to fear AT&T because they have so many tricks up their sleeves. This is a very poor phone to do web with. The screen is small, no touch screen, no track ball. How about a book to read or magazine when you are bored? :) Call me old fashioned...just trying to help
Have a 5 year old Krzr that I love- still works perfect. Since ATT is FORCING a data plan on smart phones I can't get a BB Bold. Upgrading to get a texting phone with no touch screen (ppl say many problems). I want to start texting but I wanted a phone I didn't need reading glasses for - . Use daily the voice dialing - a must have. Sam Magnet - doesn't have it. I don't want the gadgets or internet - is this a good reliable phone for me? Does moto have problems with sliders
Yea, AT&T is really getting greedy and forcing a lot of people to either pay outrageous amounts for things they don't need with no middle ground. The Karma is not a smart phone of course, so you could 'survive' with just a text message package. The icons and such on this phone are large, so that's good for you. Motorola builds very very solid phones. I, like you, have phones over nearly 3 years old that still work like new. I don't know what Sam Magnet is...
It is the Samsung Magnet - a candybar phone (orange case) - looks similar to Samsung's pay as you go phone. But thanks for the info - I have tried the keys they are a little small - but I want a phone that will last a a few years.
Oh. Yea, it's a bit of a problem..if the keys are bigger, then people will say the phone is bulky / too large to fit in their pockets. Too small, they say it's hard to use. lol. I like the t-mobile g-1 and I bet the verizon Droid is amazing...but i can't afford that.
@photomad97 I recommend Motorola phones because they are extremely reliable. Even the US government relies on them for their walkie talkies. I cannot speak for the xenon, etc., because I have not used them, but I know Motorola phones are extremely well built and last many times longer than the average phone.
does anyone know how much it costs for an upgrade on a 2 year plan? I have a blackberry curve 8310 and I wanted to get the karma cuz the blackberry has a ton of problems with it so if anyone could tell me it would be greatly appreciated thanks! :)
It'd probably be easier to download the song as a ringtone because the steps involved in recording a song then ultimately making a piece / snippet of it a ringtone are quite involved for the average person. In other words, it's probably easier to pay around two dollars for a ringtone than it is to record and edit the piece of the song you want as your ringtone. If you are the average user, I suggest just paying to download a ringtone instead of making your own.
iPhones cost a fortune to service over the contract period of two years, and you have to ship it off to Apple just to change out the battery. On the other hand, the Nokia E71x is a great phone that doesn't even require a data plan. :)
They are for sale at the AT&T stores, or you can buy one from the Nokia website then later get AT&T to service it for you. A phone requires service in order to operate...sometimes certain networks won't service certain phones. For example, T-Mobile will not service an iphone. This is due to contracts; that's all. You can buy the e71x from Nokia or AT&T. AT&T will try to get you into one of their money-making contracts; I avoid that as much as possible. The phone is more valuable than AT&T terms.
Yes. You just download the song to your phone. Use computer software to cut the 15 or 30 seconds so that it's short enough. Then, upload it to your phone via computer cable. :) The
CoolMan22188, Definitely not the Samsung. I tried that one; it is awful; touchscreen is very unresponsive; Samsung does not update that phone any longer. If you must, I'd go with one of those LGs if you really don't like the Motorola; I can vouch for Motorola's quality and reliability, but I have never had an LG, so I can't comment on those.

i agree with you, since i came from an entire line of cruddy phones, i didn't really notice the nagging features except one HUGE one; the phone constantly activates to show me a message saying how many KB are transferred! idk why it does, and idk how to stop it! help?
MayerEO, This I am guessing happens after you send a txt message that includes a picture? Or after you close a browser (internet) window? I'm not sure how to disable the KB notification if it is even possible. This feature allows people to keep track of how much data is transferred so they know how much it's costing them. (But people with unlimited data plans don't incur charges; they pay a flat rate per month.) I'd say call 611 and ask AT&T if you can disable the KB info.
hey i have a quiestion do you need internet for sending and reciving mms texting because i have the phone but so far i havent been able to recive or send mms txting. My other quiestion is how do you set up the voice dial???
@Natchdes, No. You only need to enable text messaging (pay-per-use or a package) to send and receive MMS texts. But, you must have a phone capable of sending/receiving MMS texts. Some phones can only send regular texts (without pictures, etc). There is nothing to set up for voicedial for the Karma. Pressing send brings up the Voice Dial menu, where you say your command (e.g., "Call Jane", "Text Joe", "Call 555-555-5555")
That would be the green button that you press normally after entering a telephone number you want to call. It's usually on the left. The red one used to end a call ("hang up") is on the right.
HI, I have a really important question. Do you have to have access to the internet to go on facebook, myspace, etc? I really want this phone except it would be a bummer if I couldn't go on facebook because i don't have internet access on my phone. Thanks so much!

Facebook does allow you to do certain things like update your status simply by sending a text message though. You have to activate your mobile phone through the Facebook website then follow the instructions.
