Recent comments about shooting the crocs that made the falls prompted me to do a little preliminary research. Apparently the Nile croc lives there, and is listed as endangered. So to raft there, if they are indeed shooting Nile crocs, would make me a complete sack...so I have suspended travel plans. Perhaps companies can trap them and release further downstream...if anyone has more info that would be great. Mainly, do they only shoot injured ones, and are they endangered?
They told me "If you fall out during the rapids, watch out for the hippos and crocs!" Scariest shit ive ever done. O yeh , have fun carrying ur raft out of the canyoe when ur done. Just do the bungee jump. Much safer! :)
As a guide I'd rate this at a high class IV. If the clients had been paddling into this with some coordination/speed things would have gone a lot smoother. Plus you can see that the clients and guide are floating on the surface after getting flushed/knocked out of the boat. In class V rapids you would likely not be on the surface right away.
Another bit of info is that crocs don't swim in rapids, that's why the guides always pick you up before you drift into the still water( After you fell out of the raft ). While you're in the water, they will point out the small crocs on the shore which is harmless. Anyway, enjoy!!!
The guides told me afterwards that most of the crocs die when falling down Vic Falls, the guides go out every day looking for and shooting those who made the fall. To prevent any big attacks. They don't tell you this before you go in...
I need to upload my VHS copy of my rafting here... back from 1994.
Have some amazing battles with the waves.

I did this 14 years ago, quite a few crocs on the rocks but do you really think one could catch you in a rapid?

That's a relief.....
I saw few resting in the rocks around those places they use to wait for the next boat.
