It is not about practitioner. It is definitely not about the forms. It is about how you train yourself. A kick boxer who trains himself to kick down a tree with bare legs is definitely likely to defeat any Taekwondo or Kyokushin fighters who concentrated on forms.

Notting is ineffective. It deppends of practicioner. But obsession on only using legs or fists is a wrong way. One shall not limit his/herself. @yellowpokerman only because people who go into MMAonly really know how to spar. If someone who knew all the take downs and other things associated with Taekwondo then it would be viable. A master of Taekwondo would take an mma fighter down before they even knew what hit them. The reason you dont see masters of Taekwondo in MMA is because they already have a competitive fighting style called sparring. MMA is just about hurting other people while sparring is fun and more competitive than MMA

ohh well.. same old story! people not knowing what they are talking about!.. sport TKD, is a sport, with rules and points... I repeat, this is sport version! and please now read carefully: the non sport version of TKD includes a lot more, not only kicks and punches! however, if you will include them in the sport version it would not be considered sport. Biggest mistake ever would be to consider it inferior to other martial arts. I did karate first and then TKD... for 18 years. TKD much better!

taekwondo uniform isn't comfortable when you first wear it it felt like PJ's. I got use to it after wearing it for a long long long long time! My uniform was so sweaty it was all wet i couldn't put it in my bag it will make it smelly =[. and i got a bruise today .

Maybe it has some traditional roots, but today its clearly a modern and effective fighting technique. the fact that its an olympic discipline proves this

@ahj4513 well, Taekwondo is the modern version of Taekkyeon, a form of martial arts that was practiced as early as the Three Kingdom Era. I don't know if Japan invented Karate during the period when they were "learning stuff" from Baekjae and Tang China.

@bushidoartss I don't think you would know that, since you are doing freestyle martial arts. Do you at least have a blackbelt in Taekwondo? WTF taekwondo has restricted punches to a minimal level ( only punches to the body is allowed), but it still has stronger kicks than freestyle m.a. because TKD focuses a lot on kicks. Now, TKD also has blocks that can be used in a freestyle match.

@bushidoartss The reason why TKD people lose a lot against freestyle matches against other martial artists is that TKD trainees are used to only using kicks and chest punches. Those who trained WTF TKD for a long time are used to Olympic style TKD sparring match. If TKD had allowed blocks, low kicks, and punches to the head; then TKD is at it's full potential.
