you have good eyes. these are steps used to reach the upper portions of the mast or the center of the windscreen in the front. I also build these machines for others.
Hey I'm thinking about buying a used rotorway. Although i don't like the belts going back to the tail rotor. Is it possible to replace these belts with a shaft drive system. thanks!
@stealthmonkeytkd Thanks for the note. Yes you can replace the belts with a solid shaft drive. I considered the same but after training for a week at Rotorway the instructors convinced me that the belts are better because:1) they are a lighter assembly, 2) Some people have a blade strike that damages the tail cone and the sheaft always bends. The cost to repair and replace is very high in comparison. 3) You still have to do inspections pre and post flight inspections and more but no more letter
@champarmstrong The same thought went through my mind as well. Except the only helicopter instructor i know will not teach on a rotorway with a belt driven tail rotor.
@champarmstrong and if you come to Arizona and train me to fly it, I'll build a hangar on my property and you can save 5000.00 a year in hangar rent..see how thoughful I am? By the way, is this considered an experimental aircraft?
@floatpool You are the most considerate guy I know. Yes this is an experimental aircraft. It also has a turbine Engine conversion which I am really interested in doing this year. Build a hangar is exactly the right idea. Step one is to get a kit either a new Talon or a project that someone is selling. I will build it for you at my hangar/factory in Monterey Ca, fly off the hours and transport it to your new hangar.
@resqme1000 No. There are one or two people around like me who build them for buyers. They go together really fast and are well designed for maintenance. Easy to service.
Good job and congratz!! I am in the middle of a 162f build and am seriously considering the jetexec conversion from kiss aviation. If anyone has any advise I'd appreciate it. Happy coptering
Yes, do the KISS conversion you will be much happier in the long run because with the Solar T-62 engine and the new FADEC fuel management system, you just run the turbine at full speed all the time which takes all the worry out of having to increase or decrease power. From people I know who went with the KISS conversion not a single one regrets it.
Is it just me or is this happening on a public road?

Why don't you ever see these with 500 plus hours? Most all listed for sale barely have 50 hours on them. What gives?
