Secession of today's South would be impossible when one considers the demographics of the southeastern USA. The region is the blackest part of America, and I doubt it would ever be possible with that particular demographic group residing there.  The Pacific Northwest would likely be the best alternative for people of European ancestry to attempt to separate from the Union. Also, the Pac-Northwest happens to have the climate and environment most similar to mother Europe.

Y'know it really goes back to the age old scots and english rivalry. The ex English in New England who still had strong ties to home wanted that style of Government while the Radicals a lot of them southern and scottish had traditional local control of their region due to England's Laissez Faire attitude towards the colonies until the end of the 7 years war. They did not want to see another Top down system if they could help it treating the mass of the people as slaves to a king and his houses.

Well, the eastern part of NM was settled mostly by Southrons. As were some areas of Kansas. But the majority of those State today are sadly not with us. I don't think that present State borders will necessarily carry the day though in the end. I think pstriots from all the many States will in the end join us in our fight for liberty and self-determination.

Yeah, the Feds stole the western counties of Virginia from that State - totally against their own Constitution, by the way (which specifically says a State can not be divided up without its consent and the consent of the other States. VA was out of the Union so the split of WV from VA was defacto, not legal. I realise a long time has passed, but the formation of WV from VA was illegal. I would let it go if we (the South) could be self-governing again though.

But now, a year living in Yankee Land, being bashed all the time, ridiculed, looked down upon, I say, I'm all for Southern secession, today. im a southroner, living in texas and i was watching a educational video on the history channel and it started off with, "Slavery, which was the main cause of the war". two opposing sides dont fight for the same reason. the north fought because the tyrant by the name of lincoln, didnt want to be known as the president who let the south leave. and coverred it up with the story of freeing the slaves. although the war was obviously about southron independence.

Slavery was not the cause of the war! Abe Lincoln said in debates against his main opponent in the 1860 presidential race, Douglas, that he had no intention of ending slavery in the states and territories where it already existed, and he admitted that he had NO RIGHT to do so! Dont misunderstand me, I think that slavery is wrong and I am ashamed that when people think of the confederacy they think of evil slave owners. But it is ridiculous to say that the civil war was mainly about slavery.

If Lincoln hadn't deported his democratic competition in 1864 illegally he very likely would have been elected and put a stop to the insanity. The idea of secession was not simply entertained by the South. Read up on the Hartford Convention, which led to the fall of the Federalists incidentally. Also note that Massachusetts threatened to secede in 1846 over Texas becoming a state. Also note that a lot of abolitionists were abolitionists; many of them agreed with Garrison when he called the US Constitution a 'Covenant with the Devil'. And in modern times there is a small secessionist movement in Vermont and Alaska, among others.

P.S. what I would like for others who disagree to glean from this, is the fact that there had to be a reason for the Southern people to wish so strongly to leave, to go to so far as an obliterating war, with such determination and rage.
