I was at this 1987 derby, stood 8 hrs and didn't move for fear of losing my spot. I was at the paddock.I watched the Derby on one of the monitors underneath the grand stand. As Pat Day came walking by after an earlier race, I asked him for a pr of his goggles. He game them to me. Pat, may I have a pr of your goggles? I'm from Oregon. Pat's originally from Colorado. After a few seconds of silence, he handed me a pr , and replied,,"Ok, since you're from Oregon".

Demons Begone, winner of the Arkansas Derby, ridden by Pat Day would have crushed the field had he not bled from the nose. However, out of the tragedy we got to see the rise of another treasure, Alysheba, a legend in his own right.

@06C6Z06 I was eleven when this race was run- it was my first bet- and to this day I consider Demons Begone and Secretariat (out of duty) to be my favorites of all time. Alysheba proved to be amazing, though. I won five dollars on Alysheba during the Preakness.

He spotted them 20 lengths, clips heels with Bet Twice at the top of the stretch and almost goes to his knees, gathers himself and wins going away! My favorite horse of ALL time....Alysheba!
