  • on top of that a delay pedal or 2 set for barely any difference in delay fractions of a second. Beefs up the sound. Then you just need a basic preamp to remove the feedback on an overdrive amp. You want to beef up a little gain, but not much. Just enough for that blues sound that you will see when you follow the amp settings below.

On a fender frontman basic amp. Just put mids at 0 Bass at 6 or 7 Treble at 5 or a little higher to your liking. Turn up gain to 3. Sounds clean with funk.

  • if you are wondering how to get that kind of a sound... first of all hes got a first class set up that costs alot. So if you want at least a cheaper version do this... Use a blues style guitar... single coil... usually set to neck not bridge on the pickups, or just over halfway there. Uses 10 or 11 gauge strings. Dig in for the tone and use alot of alternated muted playing as well. Amp settings include having the mids completely lowered with the lows and the highs up. Experiment with yours

  • Andy is just amazing, From fast stuff like groove or die, to this clam stuff with loads of feeling. Great.

  • He's like watching Valentina Lisitsa

  • Kann man mehr Gefühl in einen Song bzw. in jeden Ton legen? Ich denke nein...

  • what is up with people not knowing te difference between the like and dislike button!!!! wtf!

  • O MELHOR !!!

  • he is like musically raping that lady in front of that camera

  • you can get lost in his playing..he milks every note !

  • He's playing to a backing track right? where can I get these BTs?

  • holy shit!!

  • I used to love when my band played The Rock in Dallas. After...i'd go across to Blue Cat Blues and catch Andy play. Unvelievable that he was playing across the street from the hole I was singing in. Not a normal occurrence in my life.

  • he's natural...

  • my God, exelent song, exelente guitar player

  • Brea? that's only 20 mintues away from Cerritos where I am. I CAN'T BELIEVE I MISSED THIS! FUCK!

  • Badmuthaf*cka.

    That is all.

  • Such control with the guitar is something that comes from the person itself his choice of notes can be replicated but not how he feels about playing it, every performance is different and you can tell Andy feels it this way too

  • It all feels very natural. I dont think he's acting or anything, thinking about posing, etc. You can't get such EMOTIONAL PERFORMANCES from many guitarrists nowadays. He's still very techinical at the same time tho.

  • greatest guitarist of all time in my opinion.. my personal favourite !!

  • does anyone have backing track of this song??? I really need it

  • What the hell is wrong with you? That is pure emotion. If you notice, he doesn't open his eyes even one time.

  • i dont like his little kicks n such. im in a couple metal bands so i dont really know anything about rock stage presence but regardless of the fact that i dont like what he does, hes a great guitarist which is all that matters.

  • Listen with your ears not your eyes

  • thats why i said he is a great guitarist thats all that matters. it not not a big deal that he does dumb things on stage it doesnt make him less of a musician.

  • What should he be doing? Rock back and forth like Molly Hatchet?

  • how many times do i have to say this. I DONT FUCKING CARE ABOUT HIS STAGE SHOW HE IS A GOOD GUITARIST REGARDLESS. i just personally dont like what he does on stage but it doesnt make a fucking difference.

  • I think that's how you probably dance. You've been laughed at by women and it permanently scared you. Don't take it out on Andy please.

  • i find it hilarious how no one cares about me commenting on his guitar playing, just his stage show. fucking douchebags cant even understand that it DOESNT MATTER WHAT HE DOES ON STAGE.

  • sick .

  • His tone is awesome!!!! His Mesaboogies rock love all the hendrixy blues licks in there

  • Oh Yes!!... Fabulous impromptu performance!

  • fuck yeah

  • loox like he's having a lot of fun!

  • It's blues... yet, at the same time, it's something entirely different. So f***ing awesome! Andy's phrases are so articulate.

...and who knew that an Ibanez guitar coupled with a Mesa amplifier could produce glassy tones that rival that of any Fender. A truly original musician with a sound of his own.

  • It makes a glassy and lovely tone with my Randall RM80 aswell. The guitar is just awesome! The best buy that I've ever done.

  • And I ofc use the BB Preamp aswell. It's such a lovely tone you get.

  • don't forget the Dimarzio pickups.

  • If your sick of Metal here is the cure

  • Yessir

  • a guitarists guitarist!

  • Andy, in my opinion, have much feeling

he knows how to change the dinamic

in yours songs. He`s a great musician.

    Good job, man!!

  • @dinguitas dinamic?

  • the tone king rulez!!

  • Amazing player and a hell of a nice guy to boot.l.!

  • HELL YEAH !! that was absolutely DELICIOUS,,yummy, mmmm...

  • TONE! omg, this guy has it to spare!

  • lol i think he's the only one that using the combination of ibanez guitars and mesa boogie amplifiers for a clean tone and not for goddamn heavy distortion.

  • his ibanez is not really like most ibanez guitars

  • I would love to see him and Eric Johnson play something or see them in concert together.

  • this guy is raping that guitar

  • it's not rape if the guitar really wants it...

  • sentimental hermosa!!!

Andy es el mejor de todos los tiempos... terrible expresion un genio!!!

  • The best there is period. And all of this with his eyes closed the entire time. Unreal!

  • This song is just perfect....every note

  • The feeling, emotion

    It's suffocating me

    I can't breath

  • I know what U mean,Unreal ain't it!!!!!

  • I just saw Andy in a clinic myself, but I didn't have the balls to video whole songs. I just grabbed a clip. Thanks for shooting and posting all this!

  • Andy is awesome you can tell he's studied at the Joe Satriani institute. That being said only Joe himself plays with more tone, feel and pure technical virtuosity. However Andy also plays with superb tone feel and dynamics.I believe Andy with his command of these he's in definitely in the top ten in the world.

  • I actually prefer Andy's playing to Joe's, great as Satch is, I think Andy has better tone and feel.

But i completely agree with you that he's amongst the best in the world!

  • I'm with goldtop. Andy for me is simply the best there is. I went to the clinic in NY and got a video of Andy playin' one of my custom axes! Coolest and most down to earth musician I've ever met.

  • yea he is my guitar teacher is the one that writes all of his tabs out for him his name is clint franzen!

  • Yeah man, Clint is my teacher too. And I've learned some serious secrets to Andy's playing. He is a lot more complicated than he seems.

  • you really have to respect a guy with so much passion for his craft. one of the best ive ever heard.

  • Speechless....Andy rules,tone and feel,awesome.

  • Fy faen.. Mr Timmons is one of the absolute best out there. No doubt...

  • man this guy has soul. Awesome playing

  • I truly love this song! So much emotion pouring out of him! He has got it flowing out man! Great blues song with some catchy flare, & very original!!

  • I Love This Song ;D

  • I can't stop watching this video!!!

He really is an amazing guitar player!

  • This song starts off very similar to a Jonny Lang song that came out on his most recent recording called "Long time comming"

its one of the later tracks on his record.

Both Jonny, and Andy are such good Guitarist's!!!!

  • comparing Jonny Lang to Andy Timmons is rediculous. pretty much the same thing as comparing Rex Grossman to Tom Brady

  • andy,s got such a cool sound , remionds me a bit of lukathers sound very brown and warm , does anyone know what pickups he uses

  • he says that lukather has probably been his top influence

  • DiMarzio pickups. Cruiser DP187s and the AT1 humbucker.

  • aahhh wow.he nearly elevates off the ground when bending those strings..cool!

  • the best sound

  • simply love his playing and sound, its the closest to my heart of all the guitarists

  • Whats the name of this song?

  • Falling down

  • andy is great!! Thanks for the videos!

  • BB Preamp is for a bit of kick in the nuts... The Mesa Lone Star is plenty ballsy on it's own. It's in the hands people.

  • I have a BB and ITS WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!!!! Its the bulk of his tone! Not The Mesa!

  • Your welcome!

  • Falling Down!!!

thanks for uploading the video! :)

  • speechless...so beautiful...

  • Did Andy reveal any of his "tone secrets" ;-)

  • The tone was still there while playing this Alder body w/ Maple fingerboard modeled Ibanez. There is something in the "Its all in the hands" cliche. Although he did mention that he likes the Xotic BB Preamp because it gives the gain with out the buzz. He uses 10 gauge strings so that he can dig in w/out breaking as often as 9's or 8's would. If I remember correctly, he also like to use a touch of delay often.

  • I did take a look at the settings for the BB Preamp and the Mesa Boogie LoneStar: The BB gain was set at about 12:00 along with the Lone Star.

  • I'm all in for the "it's in the hands". I have a Lone Star, but my tone is nowhere near the stuff that he pulls off. It's unbelievable!! I will definitely try out the BB preamp...

  • mdt72,

    I bought a BB preamp, but I still am a long way from sounding like Andy. I would compare it to buying the microphone that makes my voice sounds like that of Ray Charles... unfortunately, all his tone comes from him first; I have in fact followed Andy for a little while now, and have heard him get his "tone" from a variety of different equipment. He was using "Laney" amps, and has recorded "Resolution" on old Marshall equipment;

  • Steve Vai said that tone comes almost exclusively from the way that you play. But fret not! That's not a bad thing! Play like yourself, revel in the fact that no one else souds like you if you keep at it, and even if you do a cover, add some of yourself into the song so it's not just a copy. That said, the BB Preamp sounds wonderful, I love that it adds "oomph" to a clean passage.

  • @bobbyrubio ya he says he puts one delay shorter and one longer so he gets kind of a chorusing effect... awesome sound

  • @mdt72 A good Magician never does

  • cheers!

  • Thanx for posting. I was dying to go to that clinich, but live in Europe.
