  • jetblue needs to RETRAIN its employees...

the example begins at the top

  • He knew the effect his tee shirt would have on people sitting in the food court of a New York City airport two days after a terrorist attempt was thwarted over the Atlantic. Passengers were sitting there reading newspapers with headlines about the "shoe bomber". They were nervous and approached the authorities demanding they do something. The security guard's statement about a bank robber was dumb but I don't care about that. I only hope Jet Blue's lawyers more ruthless than this creep's.

  • @rscmrcmd Hey sherlock, who said this "Those who would give up essential liberty in order to purchase temporary safety deserve neither safety nor liberty."? Its sad that again, a foreigner, understands more about what the US trys to preach to the rest of the world than Americans themselves. I would rather take a little risk than lose my basic freedom of speech. Its a T-Shirt for godsake.

  • @Tressiensia I don't know the answer to your question but I know everyone is a hero sitting at a computer. I don't know who you are quoting but let me quote you. "I would rather take a little risk than lose my basic freedom of speech." Bullshit. Bull fucking shit. Your ass would be the first out of that seat and you'd be knocking everyone on the jet bridge over just to get away. Sherlock? It's not a matter of investigation, it's just plain common sense. Who are you kidding?

  • @rscmrcmd Dude that quote was by Benjamin Franklin, he's one of our Founding Fathers and the creators of our Constitution. You might want to try to figure out what the words mean. I will never vacate a seat much less go complain to security over a t shirt because its written in Arabic. Its one thing if it says, "Im going to bomb this plane"......that's a direct threat and a issue different from freedom of speech. This is simply racial profiling and discrimination.

  • @Tressiensia Benjamin Franklin didn't fly on airplanes, he also quit Paris as soon as he saw things were heating up and he may not get out. Do you remember a few years ago when passengers were told over and over, "If you see something, say something". This happened two days after a terrorist attempt on a NYC bound plane. It's real easy for you sitting at home to tell us how you'd stick to your principles. Also, a plane carries Americans of all colors, no one knows who called security.

  • TSA - Tolerated Sexual Assault

  • One of the worst airline, I flew three time and they were always late, over charged for the luggage, extremely rude FA crew and no entertainment.

  • @PakLovesIndia I beg your pardon. They allow one bag for free (Not to mention, carryons, unlike Spirit), and they have tvs in all the seats. I don't know what airline you're thinking of.

  • I blame the TSA, not JetBlue

  • Dont give them a reason to stop you. Unless its money you are after.

  • This story is all one-sided. Racial profiling will NEVER go away...I repeat...NEVER go away. Someone should starts printing t-shirts stating "racial profiling...the American way"

  • @plaguedXkyle Because you don't understand the language it means you must be intimidated and scared? I would rather sit next to him on a plane than you, fucking bigot.

  • @jacksawild lol that's not what i said at ALL. think about this:

we're in a war with iraqi terrorists, and you see someone with the t shirt in arabic language and in english saying 'we will not be silent'. that's VERY intimidating. that's like if we were in a war with russia and you see someone with the same exact shirt but in russian.

don't be so idiotic. im not a bigot, im just intelligent.

  • Fuck islam, fuck islamocytes, and fuck the ACLU, who has islam's cock up its ass.

  • Jet blue is one of the most recist airline. Their are several incidents like this one have occured by JB. Idiots

  • Comment removed

  • @airplanegod Did you mother use Gold Bond anti-itching powder at the time of your birth? I guess she did not rub Gold Bond on her infested pussy, so you had to itch your entire life. JB or BJ is nothing more than a blow job from a cross-dresser (your dad)

  • Apparently, you aren't aware that that Rosa Parks, working with the NAACP, sat down in the front of the bus to force the police to arrest her and to bring national attention to the injustice of the law forcing African-Americans to sit in the back of the bus. Civil disobediance has always been part of the civil rights movement.

  • this is are country

  • dont you mean 'our' country?

  • What? He can wear any shirt he wants and sit wherever he wants on a plane, I read a story about a veteran having a coffee being arrested for wearing a tee-shirt with a peace sign on it, as the cop said he was protesting and had to disperse, he refused and was arrested.

  • You just don't get it "JuiceBoxheero" Let's see if he can do it in his country! Everything that he did was on purpose, to file a law suit. That's it ! abuse this great country.

  • I don't know if this was a fabricated test case or not, but the fact is he was told he had to change his shirt and sit somewhere else because it had arabic on it, so the issue is valid. It reminds me of a time someone on the right (I want to say Pat Robertson but not sure) complained about Lawrence v. Texas being planned by the ACLU, but so what if it was? You still need to decide whether the people involved should be put in jail or not.

  • it is wrong for what they did but since 9/11...if you are arabic or from the middle east...and wearing something that represents your culture...im sorry but i would second guess myself on boarding a plane...i mean if you are american and arabic, that is fine...but you need to be americanized. i know it is harsh but i believe that non american arabics should not be allowed to fly on american flights...they are taught to hate americans and to kill...not all of them believe that...but alot do

  • You don't know who the culprit is but he looks like this? He's American!

  • And you NYgiants are one of the main reasons why the entire world thinks american's are complete bone heads.

  • I hope got as much cash out of them as possible! Ridiculous

  • Stop The Fucking Discrimination !!!!!

We Have the Right Wear we Like !!!

  • You people who are against the civil liberties of humanity need to wake the fuck up before the united states turns into a anglo saxan corporate police state. Racism is also unacceptable and the fact that you are displaying such bigotry towards any human being is sickening.

  • Well said. Blame it on lack of intelligence and education.

  • @Zeith101 Because its whites that commit 99.9% of terrorist attacks in the world right? Because of weak people like you our nation will eventually fall.

  • @MrBelrox Sir. Your myopic and clearly inarticulate standpoint fails to substantiate any premise. I recommend that you spend a couple of years in an accredited educational institution--or perhaps pick up a book or two before your egocentric world dwindles before your eyes. That's right.. not only do you fail to provide a context or backdrop to the fecal matter you duly regurgitated, but you seem to suggest a magnanimous lack of experience with life itself. Good luck, and may men pity you.

  • @Zeith101 Actually Zeith I am a veteran. And I can prove it if you want. I did 4 years in the Marines as an 0311 and I'm going back in. So don't you tell me I have no idea what I'm talking about. I know you are anti-military and anti-American, but because of people like me you have the right to spew your white man hate all over the internet. And because of me you have the right to kiss the feet of every Muslim you walk past. You would NEVER hold up a rifle to defend your country but

  • @Zeith101 But you would scream ALLAH AKBAR! If Islamic extremest publicly beheaded white Christian conservatives

  • @MrBelrox I don't recall spewing any 'white man hate'.. As a matter of fact, I'm bright white, european descent. Not only were you manipulated to perceive the worst in an entire ethnic population, but the samples from that population that you confronted, were just that--islamic militants. You can't extrapolate from your small radius to the entire globe, because some of the most beautiful people that I've met have been muslim--and sometimes even religious. You take radical extremists & generalize

  • @MrBelrox "But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also." Matthew 5:39. Not so 'conservative christian', now are you? What about "Thou shall not kill"? Does any of that ring a bell? Do you recall any of jesus' teachings or do you soil yourself in church and pretend to belong to the 'christian' category? Love my friend. Unconditional Love.. This is the only way you will enter the kingdom of 'heaven'. Good luck.

  • @Zeith101 So I'm a killer because I'm a veteran? Where in the Bible does it say thou shall not defend themselves?

  • @MrBelrox How is going to another country and invading considered defense? Did those people you confront come to your house and attempt to murder you? On the contrary, you went over there, and under an infantile pretext, took arms. Which doesn't make you a killer.. it makes you gullible. Revenge and retaliation are not christian deeds.. did you see jesus picking up a rifle and shoot the men who came to crucify him? He was altruistic, and as a christian, you should learn from his creed.

  • @Zeith101 So let them run over us. I got ya. Do you see how weak you sound? Like a little whimp. I'm happy there are BRAVE men and women in this country and not a bunch of softies like you. WE WOULDN'T BE A NATION IF EVERYONE THOUGHT LIKE YOU!

  • ha ha ha being a racist separates you from this man... your lack of intelligence does as well. One day you may realize that some people (including immigrants) just understand this country a little better than you. Freedom of Speech is something the ACLU protects, not just for people who are treated unjustly, but for ignorant pricks like you and purser131 :)

  • As a white republican soldier that served in Iraq, if I was in the airport and over herd this happening I would have freaked out at TSA and jetBlue. It absolutely blows my mind that something like this happened in the United States. And for homeoso to say "He can't pull this crap there" disgusts me. THIS IS AMERICA not "over there."

  • What crap was he pulling. Seems Jet Blue was trying to do all the pulling. People like you who are ignorant bring this country down.

  • SCREW the ACLU.

    scum of the earth.

  • Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

  • What a clever way to make money! Mashallah. Wear such a shirt and wait for the reaction. Contact a lawyer and the ACLU and collect. All arguments are spurious in the face of such a clever boy. The more humiliating the reaction, the better the "pay-off". His attorney is a Jew. This might be the beginning of a rapproachment between the arabs and the Jews - both seeking a common goal: MONEY! Very very clever.

  • The ACLU will be the down fall of our great country.

  • Too bad Aden Fines mom didnt swallow! What a fuckin peice of shit that needs to be Flushed. FUCK YOU ADEN FINE! FUCK YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!

  • Its only racist if a white guy says it. FUCK YOU DAMN MOTHER FUCKING MUSLIMS MOTHER FUCKER PEICES OF SHIT FUCK THE ACLU FUCK YOU!

  • Wow. I hope you're not American.

  • This guy knew what he was doing and his intent was to foment an altercation and confrontation with Airport security personel. He should be eternally grateful for being allowed in this country to "express" his jokester side and the ACLU and the apologist idiots who support him should be ashamed because in his NATIVE IRAQ, YOU would of have been executed and HE would of beheaded you!

  • I guess the point is wearing that should should not have caused an altercation or confrontation with Airport security personnel. In my NATIVE AMERICA, he should not have been harassed.

  • This is very unfortunate. He's right about what he says at the end. Racial profiling is the start of another Holocaust.

  • i will say this in a respectful manner, so if you disagree, please respond in a mature, respectful way. too many people act like little kids & tell others off simply because they disagree and it's so old.

i believe that SOME racial profiling is okay. not that it should restrict the rights of ANYONE, but that it is okay to take a closer look. it's okay to screen further, to ask questions. but in the end, all rights must be given to everyone equally.

and yes, i have many muslim, arab friends.

  • first of all if you read the airline policy it has the right to deny you the right to fly if it wants to based on what you are wearing or how you smell or even on how you act and if someone gets offended by something that you are wear they can tell you to cover it. i don t see how his rights where violated. The ACLU needs to help serve real americans who police have beat up b/c of being black or hispanic . not idots who the airline ask to change or cover up his shirt.

  • What a bunch of bleeding hearts.

  • The american people who demonstrates such clear insecureness is why profiling and misjudgements occure. United states is about freedom not insecureness.

  • Some of these comments here are anti-American because they are from dumb Americans who don't know a thing! Stop embarrassing America if you can't spell, don't know geography, don't understand the Islamic religion or are prejudiced. That should eliminate most of you.

  • He´s an american citizen!he lives and work in us, why the fuck cant Raed protest hes human rights is us. ameriKKKa fucking rednecks

  • Yes, his rights were violated, but it's not a huge deal and he didn't have to make such a stink about it. Honestly, I wouldn't be offended by his shirt, but I would be a little frightened if I was on an airplane with someone wearing something like that. A lot of people would be. I'm not saying it's a rational fear, but it is normal.

  • MissLeigh78 @@@ you associate arabic letters with terrorism, bomb, panic. whos the idiot. free to say and wear in the Usa? i dont think so! freedom of speech....only if you use it against muslims

  • you call this a stunt...dude was wearing a T Shirt...you have it in your mind that he did this as some form of protest...what about the family who was thrown off an AirTran flight, because some ignorant white people thought they heard something about the jets..you have to understand, people have been made to fear things, and when that happens you get the label of IGNORANT. and the thing is, Americans try to make people think, that people from the rest of the world are the ignorant ones.

  • I hope Jetblue appeals this and Raed the terrorist bastard doesn't see a dime!

  • Listen up,Raed was given $240,000 in damages HahHhahaha nice, dont you think so?no? well eAt ShIt! why terrorist because he´s wearin a shirt with arabic print. you know whos really a terrorist, your momma

  • The whole world and all religions need to take a stand against Islam. This False Religion needs to be stamped out and its followers exacuted. Hitler went after the wrong people. Today he would be praised as a Hero of the Free World. God Bless Israel and its people.

  • But the Israelis keep crossing their boarders and violating every agreement and ignoring every order the UN and the globe has given them! Gaza citizens MUST defend themselves against the arrogant Israelis. Israel has made The US its own slave, online I see Japanese walking for Gaza, Venezuela, France, UK, Canada, Thailand, China, Sudan, Lebanon, ALL WALKING for Gaza, NOT for USA & definitely not for Israel!! Doesn't that tell you something? Wake up & smell the coffee!! Enough said!

  • On the other hand, all Muslims & Arabic people are terrorists and evil, because somewhere in Afganistan ONE terrorist is hiding! Now is THIS fair?!! Treat people the way you wanna be treated, you treat them with fear, discrimination and hate, don't ask why when the whole universe hates us here in the US! I'm sick of this BS! =\

  • and NO a simple "I'M sorry" will not make up for all the embarrassment and the humiliation and the emotional pain and suffering this poor man went through. And those whiny passengers make me sick with their "his shirt hurts our feelings!" Well Boho, grow up, I don't see anyone complain about a German passenger with German text, a Japanese passenger with Japanese text, Russian anyone? Do NOT judge a whole race based on one person or one group's PERSONAL wrong doings,

    STOP HATE & SPREAD LOVE!

  • Freedom of Speech is the most essential part of living in a "Free" country, Jet Blue is an absolute asshole for doing this.

  • It says "We Will Not Be Silent" in two languages.

Would a WHITE GUY wearing it get the same reaction?

  • HorsePussy: Of course NOT, ironically a WHITE GUY will not get the same reaction because he can NEVER be a terrorist, he is heaven's angel on earth! No He won't, even if he walks into a bank with a gun and robs and kills a couple of hostages on the way, still oh no, no way he can be a terrorist... and even though he is white, that does not mean all white people are bad, be fair! (for those who don't get: I'm being sarcastic!) =\

  • So this guy deserves thousands of dollars for what? I'm not saying it was right, but seriously, this suing epidemic is outta control

  • Finally, the Jet Blue and TSA employees should have first asked him kindly if he COULD cover the shirt and explain to him why and if he doesn't, let him go about his way. If passengers don't like it, they should see if they could get them different seats of equal value. End of story. Unfortunately he was told to and moved to the back of the plane. Honestly, complain and tell the media (bad rep. is effective) and let it be. Suing over such things, like being burned by coffee, shows weak character

  • Imagine if he complained and told the media. People would outcry towards the event. They would apologize and work on the issue and airfares might not go up because of the lawsuit. And I bet Jet blue would have done something nice for him and he would have made a clear point. That's civilized. Wouldn't it be a nice world if more people would react like this?

  • Education stops bigotry, racism, and discrimination. To put it plainly, lawsuits often just piss the working class off because people like him get money for honestly a minor event. I say minor because compared to beatings and fire hoses during civil right marches, he got it easy.

  • Well, two wrongs don't make a right. For instance, is it right to payoff a CEO to leave the company? Often they get paid millions and do they deserve it? I doubt it. With this guy, he is getting money in a crooked way. Like those CEO's he isn't working for it. He's just getting paid off and does that money change discrimination? Probably not. Instead, use the money to educate employees on situations like these. Paying people through lawsuits is a temporary solution to a permanent problem.

  • why the fuck would you were that shirt what the fuck to you want people to interprett that as, big bfucking bang i would be afraid to fuckreality ing fly with that ass hole. it was done with intentions to be profiled but come on we have to be safe here it's not profiling it's reality of being safe on a flight. muthers just blew up planes 911 remember folks thanks to TSA GET BLUE

  • You know what...Im just going to say it. *If non of you have ever experienced Injustice or oppression of any sort...here in America and you value this patriotic Bigotry that is being taught..then its okay...you'll probability Never understand. You really think in your mind that he shirt is equitable with saying "kill all the infidels" or in response "Islam Sucks"...Then wow you'll never understand..that is until it happens to you. and i hope it doesn't have to come to that. but it did 4 me.

  • It seems to me that he should have known better than to wear that t shirt to an airport. That being said it was ultimately a result of the other passengers asking the airline to do something about it. Majority rules, the customer is always right ect... In any case I don't think this guy should get 240k. Maybe some free peanuts.

  • Did he say Anything about or in regards to 9/11, terrorism, or any type of injustice or oppression to a people? NO!

"WE WONT BE SILENCED" Can Mean ANYTHING! so if it were in Russian or Spanish language it would be Acceptable....However because its in Arabic hes in trouble.

*Note: He DID Pass the Security Checkpoint with NO weapons...And Never had a History of Terrorism....so...WHY is he wrong?

  • yesss, we gonna be rich! we cant even wear a t-shirt with arabic letters!!?? WE WILL NOT BE SILENT! FUCK AmeriKKKa!

  • Fuck all of you liberals supporting this rag head fuck. He wore that to intentionally instigate an incident.

I hope Israel turns Palestine as well as the rest of the sand box into a fucking crater.

  • Case and Point.

*Muslims should not be Silent in America.

*Christians,Rape victims, and Any People in General should not be Silenced Not matter what Language they speak or right with here in America. There are Laws against Hate crimes and this is NOT a Hate crime....cause "WHO" is He Hating on...and "What" is he hating about? HE proved a good point and lesson to everyone. That not only should eveyone be able to have freedom but also not be so quick to assume by their evil mind.

  • His Shirt is really Vague... i mean too vague.

i mean what if in reality the meaning behind "We will not be silenced" is acually about Rape Victoms. and hes showing support for rape victoms meaning...we will no longer hold it in. i mean really...its so Vague that your quick to judge without proof beyond reasonable doubt. You dont know WHY WHEN WHERE OR WHAT "WE" actually means

  • If I wore a black t-shirt that read "Victory comes to the bold-hearted," or some other cryptic message, printed in English and Korean, I would be allowed to eat my packet of four peanuts and "enjoy" the flight.

What this boils down to is that the Arabic script itself is deemed threatening. And I'm very surprised that displaying this script is grounds for being removed from an airplane.

I'm not pro- or anti-Arab, but I'm surely not afraid of an exotic writing system. Silliness...

  • anyone that has read raed jarrar and his family's blogs knows that they hate america, hate jews, and support islamic terrorism. this is a FACT!

  • Fine. Then maybe deny him entry to the flight for those reasons, but not for his shirt.

My point is, I don't see how his shirt, in and of itself, is a threat. I suppose then that anyone and everyone is a potential threat. I see someone in a "Napalm Death" t-shirt and wonder if he harbors a burning hatred for all mankind. Will he incinerate himself and the rest of us in a fiery explosion?

Why have security screenings if we're just going to worry about someone's shirt anyway?

  • You are a fucking idiot, stossburg.

This guy was just trying to get everyone riled up deliberately, because he has figured out our system gives him the FREEDOM to sue.

9/11 was a world changing event. it is completely inappropriate for Iraquis to wander our airports "testing our limits" and insulting the memory of innocent victims.

HE would not offer you the same courtesy, if you insulted his homeland or his people.

  • You can respond to me without insulting me personally. I will extend you the same courtesy.

I stated clearly that I don't defend the monetary award he received. I am no more a fan of our over-litigious climate than any other freedom lover is.

Explain to me how his t-shirt offends the victims of 9/11. I honestly, truly, don't see that at all. His shirt says not a word about that tragedy.

Finally, I wasn't discussing his motives, but merely whether he should be banned from the flight.

  • Sorry about the language. But I really should not have to spell this out to you.

Once upon a time (on 9/11) a bunch of Arabs got onto some airplanes filled with men, women and children... you know the rest.

As a result, the USA went over to the middle east and kicked ASS, toppling a terrorist govt and dictator in the process.

It is insulting to show up on a US plane with a shirt like that.

How about he goes onto an Israeli plane right now wearing a Palestine slogan... good or bad idea?

  • The Arabs who committed the atrocities of 9/11 weren't just any Arabs. They were fanatics, extremists. I don't equate them with all Arabs, everywhere.

This shirt's message is so general and vague that we can't even say whom it's directed at.

Even IF I conceded that the shirt is offensive, I see a difference between being offensive and being dangerous. The airlines need to be chucking people left and right if offensiveness is the violation. I prefer they focus solely on safety.

  • Personally, I don't care if this guy flies or doesn't fly. And he may be thoroughly despicable. Not my point. I'd just like to think safety-oriented standards were used to determine someone's flight-worthiness. Threats, weapons, kooky jihadist literature, explosives residue on clothing-- no fly. Ambiguous t-shirt...hmmm.....that's a harder sell. Tell the guy to cover his Hells Angels t-shirt then.

  • those letters wont change into a bomb!!! you dick hole!!! this guy fighting for human rights.

  • MLK1800, I am arguing that he SHOULD be allowed on the plane in that t-shirt.

  • Well, I am not quite clear on what Arabs you ARE equating the 9/11 hijackers to.

Is it the ones who burn US flags in the streets, and applaud and laugh whenever Americans die?

Is it the ones who were dancing in the streets when the twin towers fell?

Is it the ones who throw shoes at our president?

Is it the ones who danced when US contractors were burned and strung up on a bridge?

Is it the ones in London, or in Glasgow, or Hamburg?

    How about Saudi Arabia?

Do you even watch the news?

  • I've seen lots of news, unfortunately. Not much of it is pleasant. And I've witnessed Arabs doing all of the things you mentioned above. It doesn't make me happy. Fanaticism, tribalism, and zealotry are the ruin of us all.

Still, I have a hard time believing all 250,000,000 Arabs in 15+ countries are the mortal enemies of America. I've met a few who were pretty cool. Who's the "authentic" Arab-- the rock-thrower or the peace monger? I can't predict from a glance...

  • I can't predict either. That's why we have measures in place to try to protect our innocent civilians from further harm.

That's why our security people remove any suspicious or provocative individual from airplanes.

That's why "informed" Arabs should know better than to try to "stir it up" by doing inciteful things like this.

PS--there are over a BILLION chinese, and I don't fear them at all. They come and go peacefully, they assimilate, and they respect the USA.

  • Fair enough, I'm done. Do understand that I share your desire for our communal safety.

  • CaptainLoveBomb: During World War II, the universal word for the Allied soldiers was "kichiku beihei" which translates literally as "barbarian American soldiers" or better as "dirty American devils" DO YOU KNOW THESE SHIRTS STILL SELL ONLINE TO THIS DAY & SHIPS TO USA? should we fear Japanese next? Why just focus on Arab people & Muslims? FOR GOD'S SAKE this is not a war on terror, but rather a step back into a USA full with hate & discrimination, all over again!

  • Katiaseyez, WWII ended over SIXTY years ago. No doubt each side had all sorts of phrases they used to describe the others.

But nations who have remained peaceful allies over such a long period of time i.e. Japan and the USA... help to heal the wounds and foster TRUST.

I do NOT fear the Japanese at all. They are part of our community. They are peaceful. They assimilate. They respect the USA.

9/11 is still fresh. War in Iraq is news every day. Arab and Muslim plots are uncovered EVERY DAY...

  • CaptainLoveBomb: DUHm the phrases were used during WWII "verbally" but in 2008 and 2009, they are sold printed on T-SHIRTS TODAY, want the online store that sells them? It does not even have English script like this guy, only Japanese, how would you know what the shirt was saying? at least he was honest and clear in both languages! What do you call that? Japanese stayed in Japan, Americans stayed in the USA, THAT healed the wounds!

  • The thing is... nobody cares about that.

It is not a major conflict today, and it is not a significant political issue on people's minds today.

If this was 1945, there is NO WAY that Americans would allow such a thing.

Everyone has a responsibility to exercise good judgment and be mindful of others. This guy knew he was going to deliberately upset people during a very sensitive time.

FYI--there are plenty of Japanese people living in the USA... peacefully.

  • you are a product of the system boy. WW2 is still fresh in our minds, a thousand of jews where killed, jews must be a symbol for peace!thats GENOCIDE what they doing!if you aint like me blow me! know your history! media is manipulating people who cant think for ther own. FUCK CNN, FOX NEWS AND NBC

  • His t-shirt did NOT say:

    "Down with America!"

    "I will harm you all."

"The streets will flow with blood."

It's a stretch of the imagination to even consider "We will not be silent" a threat, veiled or otherwise.

Should we kick someone off the plane for sporting a gory death metal t-shirt? Is a burly, tattooed biker allowed to fly?

In the end, who will be an "acceptable" passenger? Maybe the airline can issue each of us a smock as we board.

Really, tell me how I'm wrong here...

  • Your compassion for arabic culture not withstanding, did the minor inconvinience of cover up a t-shirt really justify a 250,000 dollar lawsuit?

  • No, not at all. Please read my earlier post: "I do believe, however, that the award was ridiculous." I don't begin to comprehend how they arrived at that amount.

And I don't understand what you mean by my "compassion for Arabic culture." I don't think *any* foreign script (runes, hieroglyphics, Cyrillic characters, naughty umlauts) printed on a shirt should automatically get you booted from a plane. I don't have any special compassion for Arabic culture.

  • Well, it didnt really get him "booted", they gave him the option to wear another shirt over it, & he took it. I mean, dont get me wrong, I think it was bias, but so was racialy profiling that one guy that had C4 in his shoes, & that saved the lives of everyone on the plane. I think they asked him to cover it out of fear that it would panic other passangers. It might be an extreme security measure, but nothing Id really wanna sue over.

  • I guess that hits the nail on the head. I'm trying hard to see how this was a security measure. I don't see how the plane is any safer if he's wearing that shirt or not.

  • And of COURSE go after the C4. And run this Jarrar guy under a microscope too, three or four times at the security counter if you like. Pat him down, strip search him, take his prints. I'm just saying that if your ONLY concern about him is a weird shirt, then let him stay on board as is.

  • Wow...you can be a millionaire that easy! Tomorrow, make a shirt that says "More 9-11s Coming Soon" on one side and "Death by Beheading all Christian Infidels" on the other side....then board a plane. People will get frightened and ask that you leave....then resist. You will be forced out.....all because of your "Freedom of Expression"...then call the ACLU (All Criminals Love Us) and they will sue the airline for millions......They ya go! Easy millions! Only in the good ol USA!!! Viva Chavez!!

  • Yep. Just make sure u have a video tape of yourself molesting an underage boy, because the ACLU (American Child Lovers United) is the primary legal defense for NAMBLA. So not only will they be descriminating u for being a potential terrorist, theyll be descriminating your rights as a child molester. Sick fucks. wouldnt it be a hoot if the ACLU got bombed?

  • How was this man's shirt a threat to anyone?? I'm not jumping behind his cause -- in fact, what cause did his shirt even promote? The message was very ambiguous. And his person and belongings surely passed security screening.

I do believe, however, that the award was ridiculous. Was he honestly done $240,000 worth of damage?

The airlines are in an impossible position of having to comply with federal law, pacify a fearful public, and not "violate the civil rights" of any passengers.

  • Oh! Better yet! The frickin ACLU should have donated that money to an organization helping the wounded in Gaza!...not in someone's pocket! Selfish!

  • Well, this will be forever known as the $240,000 T-shirt! Dang it ACLU!!!!! WHY!!!??? This amount of money makes no sense! AHHHHH! FOOLS! What happened to him wasn't right! However, the ACLU is wrong again! Couldn't a, "I'm sorry, it'll never happen again" be enough!? People are losing their jobs in this country! I say again, YOU FOOLS! Another reason for me to despise the ACLU...you used to be reasonable and good.

  • The public need to learn it is NOT OK to treat a certain group this way! Those losers who boarded the plane, they have no right to judge him and treat him as if he were a terrorist just because of his tshirt. Do you know how many Americans I have seen with books on "WARS" on the plane reading, What about those American teenagers who boarded wearing a skeleton tshirt or belt, they might mean death or something, NO? Common, give me a break! The American public needs to be more serious

  • YOU are full of BS! =\

  • do you listen to yourself? either you are one of the biggest idiots on this planet or simply a racist. If your ancestors were forced to do what you just said about Jarrar, you probably wouldn't even exist or you would live in some of those countries. It just sickens me how those same people who came to the "new world" and took from the native Americans their land and settled in it in hopes for a better life and freedom are now whining about other people's pursue for freedom and happiness.

  • But the point is (you fucking moron) if you say he can't have the freedom of expression here, then HOW is it different than those Arab countries you are referring to?...lol..Whites and there racism are some of the most illogical people on earth...no wonder the country is being run into the ground by wealthy rich white guys, while you idiots get all huffy about whether a guy should wear a shirt with Arabic on it or not..lol..

  • This guy is a blogger and an "activist" just looking for attention. He is ABUSING the rights he has here in the USA.

We have been at WAR with Iraq two times since 1990. Insurgents routinely wear BLACK clothing and make "veiled threats."

If this was WWII, and his t-shirt was pro-nazi... do you think he would get away with this???

I can't stand people who want to live in America, then once they get here they just cause problems. GO HOME asshole.

  • And where do you think you came from? Using your OWN logic: YOU GO BACK TO YOUR ANCESTOR'S HOME AND GIVE NATIVE AMERICANS BACK THEIR LAND you asshole! You are such an idiot! =\

  • Hey, katiaseyez, why don't you shut the fuck up with that stupid, lame argument about ancient settlers. The whole ancient world would show constantly shifting peoples. Dumbass.

Other posters like mattrmc19 have clearly stated that this guy is a known "hater" and troublemaker, and that he did this just to stir up a fight and controversy.

When was the last time you heard about a bomb threat from an Asian? East Indian? or others??

Iraq would not tolerate his insolence... yet he insults the USA.

  • Next, i bet your going to say that protesting is un-patriotic...Oh Oh and Flags upside down is un-patriotic even though its protected and means "Under Distress" which is what we are in! yeah so politically correct that we control and become facist...and so free that we become choaticly disrespectful and primitive....wheres the middle role

  • and we are Not talking bout other countries...we are talking about America...the so called "freedom country" thats why eveyones ancestors came here right. hes as much entitled citizenship and Rights as We are.

  • What? No. He didn't disrespect anyone. all he said is simply "We wont be silenced." because you shouldn't silenced.

Now this is incredibly mild. its not like hes saying anything Blasphemous or violent to Anyone.

he didnt have a picture of Shiva or Jesus with a bomb on their head. he didnt have abraham Lincon with a pistol in his head...THAT would be extreme....there is nothing wrong with his Shirt. its within reason.

  • "but your comment sounds stupid"

funny you say it "sounds" stupid. could it be because you can't determine *what* is stupid in it?

It's harsh comment. But a very realistic one, and if you take the time to analyse it, you'll see it's essentially right.

  • You know, I don't believe you actually have even met a Muslim... which, you know, is convenient since that ignorance further substantiates your fears.

You are very quick to judge and point the finger. Your statements are purely argumentative and completely lacking of substance and intellectual worth/merit.

Please re-examine your position and realize that you are homogenizing MULTIPLE ethnic groups and peoples based on the actions of a relatively small group of people.

  • yeah he can get away for expressing his belief, but if you put a person on thier land saying "IM A CHRISTIAN" they would cut of his head! pussies...

  • Wow, so even Christian Arabs cant wear arabic tshirts saying "we will not be silent"? How did they know he was Muslim?

and is it really that bad to say that?

I mean what if "we will not be silent" refferd to Afrian-American Solidarity.. or Jewish Arab Solidarity...it doesnt even have to be Arab! you dont know who "WE" even IS!

  • finaly someone who understands

  • I think Raed Jarrar is being disingenuous if he really believes that him wearing a t-shirt like that wasn't going to cause a problem at an airport.

I'm all about free speech, but get real. He was just looking for a fight.

  • This male should have not recieve compensation for stirring up trouble in an obiviously sensitive environment. I cant believe this. I dont think its fair.

  • Are you saying Muslims should be more sensitive to you whites who are now terrified of them because of you being brainwashed? Should i call the FBI every time i see a white boy driving a Ryder truck near downtown since he may acting like Timothy McVeigh?

  • "Are you saying Muslims should be more sensitive to you whites"

I know I'd say that whites should make Muslims aware that if they piss off whites in their land, they are going for a sorry ride.

  • If Mr. Jarrar was worried about being silenced, then he need not worry anymore. Not only did he alert the press and "unsilence himself", his slimy attorney seized a juicy opportunity for monitary compensation based on a safety policy carried out by Jet Blue Airlines. Leave race & color out of it. I believe in freedom of speech but this undistinguished man blew his credibility by asking for money. He should have left the obnoxious t-shirt at home.

  • Thank you for this post, it helped me understans Mr. Raed Jarrar's point of view and I agree with him and the ACLU in this case: that even obnoxious fools wearing their politics on their clothing like schizophrenic hobos have rights.

  • the day after he won the cash, he sent money to Gaza and is asking people to do it too. this is very sad. American tax payers money going to terrorists.

  • not all the people that live in Gaza are terrorist you fuck!I'm a Latino that lives in LA and I'm with the Palestinian people all oppress people around the world "will be not be silenced"

  • The irony. I wonder what would happen to me if I wore an "Infidels Rule, Islam Sucks" shirt to this jerkoff's country.

  • Ok, his shirt read "We Will Not be Silenced" how in anyway is that parallel with "Infidels Rule, Islam Sucks" is more like the similie they used in the video "That's like going into a bank wearing a shirt that says I'm A robber" But he wore a shirt saying "We will not be silenced" It wasn't derogatory, violent, nor vulgar. It's dispicable the comments I'm reading on here insulting the man, he's obviously educated, and if this happened to any of you, I'm hoping you know your rights as he does.

  • Oh you busted me, It is not an exact "parallel." Pat your self on the back. This guy was not merely expressing himself. He was intentionally seeking a confrontation. An Arab man wearing a T shirt that reads "We will not be silenced" in this context (at an airport, in the United States post 9-11) could be percieved as a threat. Whether that perception is fair or not is not the issue. The context of the situation is what it is and this guy knew it. He was looking for a payday.

  • Another lowlife lawyer and client who saw an opportunity to get paid, and did, to the tune of $240,000. For those two to have profited to that outrageous amount for a relatively benign incident is a travesty.

  • Yeah, its always a benign incident until it happens to YOU...the problem with you white people is, you have always been the perpetrators of racial profiling and not the victims of it. How stupid can you white people be...did they really think an Islamic terrorist is boarding a plane with Arabic writing or anything else drawing attention to themselves? lol..

  • Ok, I would sympathize but you're profiling as well. Don't say you "white people," it's merely the ignorant, and those come from all sorts of races and ehtnicities.

  • White people were the original profilers!! if you study history, you will see, that where ever white people traveled, anyone who had darker skin were automatically sterotyped then terrorized, maimed, killed and enslaved. No one wants your sympathy, just to use your head and to allow yourself to give in to ignorance...

  • Nice to see that you, as a negro, are a racist. What a shocker. Appreciate the irony in that.

I didn't say the incident was right, I said it was relatively benign and didn't warrant a $240,000 payout. The young man intentionally went into an environment where he knew the shirt would elicit a reaction, and it did, and he got paid. Nice scam. You should stop rebeating the 'mean ol' white man' horse and go make a shirt of your own. Get paid yo.

  • Negro is a term your racist ancestors gave my people, we were and will always be Black. I'm not a racist If you want to call me a hater, that's fine just understand, I don't hate your kind because of the color, but for the ignorant superiority mindset most of you posses. People wear things all the time in this country for shock value, I seem to remember something about freedom of expression. He was paid because his right to do so was violated. You don't believe in freedom of expression?

  • Where can i buy that T Shirt.

  • Constitutional issues aside, it boggles my mind that the TSA thought they could solve the "problem" by making the guy change his shirt.

If somebody's intent on hijacking an airplane, I don't think his T-Shirt bears in any significant way on his ability to do so. It's not like they neutralized whatever "threat" they thought the guy posed by making him change.

And why would a terrorist wear such a conspicuous shirt, anyway?

  • This is great! I find it unbeleavible that it you've only been in the country for a few years and you know more about America than most Americans who have lived their entire lives here!

  • I guess putting TSA on the headline was a way to get more viewers. TSA don't care what you wear. hell, they would probably laugh when they read a shirt like that. Quit blaming TSA for everything..

  • Will the ACLU defend my right to where a shirt that says "The USA will not be silent" in the Middle East? Oh, yeah, the military does that so they can bitch and moan here.

  • AMERICAN Civil Liberties Union dipshit. Their lawyers are educated in US law not in Middle eastern.

  • "AMERICAN Civil Liberties Union dipshit. Their lawyers are educated in US law not in Middle eastern."

Thank you! You're right! That's because they don't exist in the Middle East! Which was... my point! They don't have the liberty to become perverse from Shira Law there but will defend it here. I don't mean to make you feel like a "dipshit"(that's the word you used in a pejorative way), just pointing out that my thought might be well above your head.

  • They wont defend Sharia here because ACLU are for the separation of church and state. You are delusional. The ACLU defends anyone's rights from the terrorists in Gitmo to you, me, to the KKK, to a Baptist minister preaching on the streets. The ACLU are not some anti-US, anti-Christian group that many seem to think.

  • "They wont defend Sharia here"

    Wow... Talk about naive.

  • Instead of calling me naive, would you care to back up your claim? Like I said before the ACLU vehemently opposes the joining of church and state. Their supposed anti-Christian doctrine is false, they defend religious freedoms all the time, just Google: "ACLU fights for Christians" and you'll see court cases and political action protecting religious and speech rights. Before you call me naive sir, perhaps you should open your myopic little eyes and not take what the media spoon feeds you.

  • Yeah, you're naive.

To quote you: "the terrorists in Gitmo"

And: "AMERICAN Civil Liberties Union dipshit"

Everyone opposes a mixture of church and state, the ACLU did not patent this idea. Also, "freedom of speech" does not mean "right to offend". That's what people like you and the ACLU believe today, what was the word... "dipshit"?

  • You've refuted nothing. There are POWs in Guantanamo Bay that our gov't calls "terrorists" which has become a label for anyone against the US. You don't have the right to not be offended, I never equated it to freedom of speech, and I'm not sure what that has to do with this or why you brought it up. If we ban everything offensive -which is subjective- that would be censorship. You've done nothing to support your assertion that the ACLU would defend Sharia in the US.
