  • i wonder if those guys invented Facebook *rimshot*

  • Religion: When taken to it's logical extreme, this can result.

  • its time to redeption!! XP

  • This clip reminds me of austerity advocates

  • Bwahahaha, an absolute classic.

  • sick!

  • Pie Jesu Domine, Dona eis requiem

  • too bad this is monty python and the holy grail.

  • Pies es oh domine. Donna eis requiem

  • @JFalzini31 Actually is this:

Pie Jesu Domine, dona eis requiem

It means, traditionally, "Kind Lord Jesus, give them rest," with "requiem" implying "rest after death."

But yes, it can mean, "Jesus, give them a break!"

  • Lol!

    J'adore ce film!

  • @BaptisteM71

    Moi aussi XD

  • Hahaha

J'ai regarde Monty Python pour le premiere temps et j'adore!! C'est tres drole!

I saw this the for the first time and I love it! This movie is hilarious! XD

  • pius lesu Domine (smack) dona eis requiem (smack)

  • c'est si drole!

  • Merciful Lord Jesus,

    grant them rest,

  • A rough translation of what they are saying is:

Lord, all pitying, Jesus blest, grant them thine eternal rest

  • for those who don't know they are hitting themselves with wooden planks because those lines they are chanting are curses in latin

  • @allhailfoamy1

    1. they are using Bibles and

    2. the words roughly translate to :

    Merciful Lord Jesus,

    grant them rest,

  • pie es eu domine dona eis requiem

it means "piously are good lady votive offering these repose"

  • @Pedromac Your wrong. It is Pie Jesu Domine, dona eis requiem.

    And it translates to:

Kind Lord Jesus, grant them rest.

  • @Pedromac

    pie jesu domine.....

  • I'm going to do this with a vouple of friends at a medeival fair anyone have an idea what to bash our heads with that sounds hurtfull but really isn't at all?

  • @falenangel My brother hit himself with the DVD case, and it sounded painful. Maybe something similar to that??

  • @IndependenceFilms not a bad idea thanks ;)

  • @falenangel Just do it at the same time. It'll sound pretty much the same. Also, if you aren't doing it right, you're disrespecting the Python. No tricks.

  • The joke is that real cults in the middle ages used to beat themselves with whips in order to make themselves feel closer to Jesus. This scene makes fun of nutty religious sects in general.

  • @GameMiestro Actually they were called the Flagellants, and they were trying to end the Black Plague. The idea was to show God that he could stop punishing the human race because they were punishing themselves quite sufficiently. Didn't work out too well, obviously...

  • Love it when he hits himself at 0:09.

    BHWAK

  • wow, it's identical to blind guardian's inquisition.

    however, monty python is excellent

  • Get a fucking job you dolers.

  • LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • Pe aeh es oo dom me ne.. dona eh is lik we em.... *smack*

  • wow is that off. the correct wording is "Pie Jesu Domine. Dona Eis Requiem".

  • Pie Iesu domine, dona eis requiem. You have fail Latin skills.

  • Pain don't real.

  • best part!

  • there heads must of hurt

  • This part always sends me rolling. LOL!

  • LOL!!!! hahaha! =))))))

  • ROFL!!! literaly

  • oh look its my little cousin

  • (smacks head)

  • I dressed up as one of these guys for Halloween one year. Only one person got the reference, and at the end of it I had a big ugly bruise on my forehead.

  • Me and my friends are dressing up as them this year XD

  • heretic

  • Haha, fantastic.

  • I'd rather be the one holding the flag. At least then I wouldn't have to induce brain damage on myself. :D

  • they hit themselves because they were flagulents and hey did that to prove the jesus they can suffer the same pain he did

  • Poor monks

  • They signed up for it in the first place, lol.

  • Comment removed

  • Actually, it's "Pie Jesu Domine." -WHACK- "Dona Eis Requiem." Lol.

  • do you know what this means? Dona Eis requeim i know is from the Mass for the Dead in middle ages. Anyone speak latin?

  • It means, "Merciful Lord Jesus, grant them rest,

    rest everlasting."

  • Yeah, it says "Lord Jesus, grant them rest'

There's another, less respectful meaning though.

  • wat is it?

  • yes, it means 'Oh please merciful Lord Jesus, grant them eternal rest' Basically you can tell that these are self- destructive Benedictine Monks, who in the words of my friend "Want to die"

  • ah thx for the info lol

  • Actually, this is a spoof of a medieval catholic practice known as Flaggelation, in which a monk, as daily penance, would whip themselves or strike themselves in some sort of ritual. It has been shown in other movies, including the controversial "Da Vinci Code".

    Sorry, I'm a history geek. I can't help it. Carry on. :)

  • The joke is that it can be translated as 'Lord Jesus, give them a break'.

  • Comment removed

  • @Runningbrook30 It's actually, Lord Jesus, Give them rest. Blessings, my good man.

  • 0:22 - Second-From-Front Monk (nearest the hay bales) stumbles, perhaps from impact of the book, or its blinding his vision. :D lol

  • oh my god you're right. lol

  • @TheWildMart lol i just caught that, thats freakin halarious. :D lololol

  • This movie is SO Funny!!! I love this clip, and also the knights who say "Ni"

  • then why did you?

  • i love this!

  • as a musician, id LOVE to compose a Requiem and throw this in as a joke!! lol musically it could work pretty good! but id HAVE to have the guys hit themselves lolololololol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ii loveee thiss

  • this is scary what they are saying translates in latin to say "o sweet lord jusus, grant them rest. " probably refuring to the bring out yer dead scene just before this one with eric idle

  • haha i love this film so much

  • The movie gets funnier and funnier every time i see it

  • by the end, rising voices like

    "a witch.. a witch.. A WITCH!"

    ahahah I love this movie

  • They look like assassins. Especially the first one.

  • lol assassin's creed. u just expect them to lob a knife from nowhere

  • lol i like it

  • they're flagellants. They purify themselves through pain to bring them closer to God and Jesus. Similar to Silas in "The DaVinci Code". Only funnier.

  • I've seen a "service" like this once, and I couldn't help to think if it was a real "service", or just a bunch of folks re-enacting Monty Python

  • Monks are infamous for causing themselves physical pain as part of their faith. This is just poking fun at the absurdity of doing so. Great stuff!

  • sorry, i don't know but what so funny about this clip?

and why are they banging their head on some wooden plank or bible?

  • Where/how can I get this movie clip?

  • How about just downloading it?

    ;)

  • I cant find the single clip, how did you get it?

  • ^_^,lol..love those monks!!!!!!!!!

  • hysterical...

  • Probably one of THE most funniest scenes ever in this movie.......me and my daughter die laughing every time we see it.........too classic!

  • i couldn't stop laughing at this scene

  • My sister thought it ment :

    Holy foot of jezus,

    Give them their rest!

    Bit of funny xD

  • close it means kind lord jesus, grant them rest- i look a class

  • I translated the Dies Irae in Latin class, and I knew the last two lines sounded familiar!!

FYI, it literally means "O pious Jesus the Lord, give to them rest."

  • Pie Jesu Domine, dona eis requiem.

I love their feeling for rythm! xD

  • They started praying in our church in latin...and for some reason, this scene came to my mind, my sister's mind and my brother-in-law's. LOL Love this scene!

  • lol, i love how all the peasants are always mucking around in the filth on the ground pretending theyre doing something just to enhance the impression of intolerable filthe and misery.

  • Pie lesu domine, dona es requiem.

    *hits face with book*

    ROFLROFLROFLROFLROFLROFLROFL

  • that part was so epic .

  • yes!!!

  • YAY! I found a clip of it!

  • uh actually that is the right conjugation...

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA 5*

  • awesome

  • that's not even the right conjugation xas...

  • this is awesome. i love monty python, they are the best

  • "Pie Jesu Domine, dona eis requiem"

    *slap*

    HAHAHAHAHA

  • I took latin for a few years, watched it while a group of us were in the same class. We figured out what they say.

"Dea es um domine, donde me es requiem. *thunk*"

"God is master, my kingdom is the gift. *thunk*"

  • So it's a prayer for the dead?

Oh, & what's that symbol on their banner?

  • Maybe I am not suppose to understand this I have seen this a couple of times but why do they hit themselves on the head

  • You are aware of thefact that this comes from a comedy by Monty Python, right?

It comes from the flagellants, whipping themselves to reenact the passion of Christ. (google for flagellant or flagellation)

  • I was aware of that I was just curious if way back when that some people actually did this

  • I'm soooo doing this in church on Christmas...

  • awesome. best part in the movie

  • thank you

  • No problem. I like it that you had an interest in the words' meaning rather than just thinking "oh, it's monty python it must be funny"

  • "pie jesu domine dona eis requiem"

my Latin is a bit rusty, but i believe it means the following:

"Come LORD Jesus and bring upon our reckoning"

In other words, they're asking for the end of the world (requiem, rapture, judgment day, or whatever have you).

  • no offense....but you're totally wrong. It's "blessed lord jesus, grant them rest" or close.

  • Meh. I haven't studied Latin in well over 4 years, and it's not exactly something I use on a daily basis. Although i could have sworn I thought it meant that. But oh well.

  • A close translation of "Pie Jesu Domine, dona eis requiem" is "O Holy Lord Jesus, grant them rest"

  • Pretty hard to say, i'd like to know too,i only know it's latin, i think it's praise to jesus

  • anyone knows what means "pie jesu domine dona eis requiem" ? i'm from greece you know...

  • i think it means "O holy Lord Jesus, grant them rest" or something like that

  • Pie Jesu Domine,

    dona eis requiem.

    Lord, all pitying, Jesus blest,

    grant them thine eternal rest.

    Amen

  • trop fort l'emmerdeuse.

    J'adore.

  • WTF ITS THE BEST!!!!

  • haha yes

  • oohh aahh

  • charge!!!

  • Lill G!!!

  • The main monk they close up on has a NICE jawline. Who is the guy who played that monk?

  • That's a young Neil Innes! He's also the guy who plays Sir Robin's head minstrel and sings the awesome Brave Sir Robin song :D

  • The holy plank of antioch!

  • But that's the joke!

    It's Monty Python!

Religion has nothing to do with it!

    I like using exclamation points!

  • fuck YOU

  • Ah, good times, good times.

  • hahaha. this part is so funny. it never gets old.

  • i want this as my ring tone...

    xD

  • Then you'll wack yourself with your cell phone when it rings?

  • ROFL!

    That's the spirit!

  • if your phone has bluetooth just download this video extract the audio and then you can send the audio file to your phone

  • this never gets old lol "pie jesu domine dona eis requiem." *whack*..

it means merciful god let them rest. or something close to that

  • The words mean something like. "Holy Lord Jesus, grant unto them rest" I was hoping it would have been something more crazy.

  • These are lyrics to an actual, solemn song, but that's part of the joke, that song would be easily recognizable if you knew it, and it makes it funnier!

  • pie jesu domine....donna eis requiem :D

  • *WHAP!*

  • -pain-

  • and continue

  • lol, this is my favorite part! xD

  • I'm glad someone wrote the words to the chant, I coudn't figure it out. -maybe I should watch the Latin Grammar bit from "life of Brian".

  • I used to do that when I was younger with my backpack and flute case. Hehhh. Those were the days...

  • LOL Yep.

  • I wanna join!

  • LOL, one of my favorite parts from the movie! :D

  • Lol.. the lyrics to Pie Jesu

  • i dressed up as one of them for halloween once with a few friends

  • I'm gonna grab a few friends, find (or make) some cloaks, and get a wooden plank, and we'll do this in a street, somewhere in the middle of a city, or even through Wal-Mart, lol.

  • yeah - was thinking about something like that when i first saw this (like 2 days ago) :P

  • I've had that hought to for a long time. don't forget pain killers thou

  • I was thinking the same thing xDDD

  • Very wise. *twack*

  • latin......I think.

  • I know most of the words they're saying except for the very first one. Is it "pie" (pee-yay) or "ie" (ee-yay) or what?

  • *Holy Lord Jesus, Grant unto them rest* What it has to do with anything i dunno? lol

  • Pie Jesu Domine, dona eis requiem *twhack*

    The whole Text ;)

  • "Bring out your dead! Bring out your dead!" I forget if that bit was in this movie...
