I don't have a hard and fast rule on loctite. I will usually loctite rings on duty rifles. When I do, I torque the screws then put a drop of loctite between the screw head and hole.
what height ring did you use? low im guessing. Could you post part numbers to help other duplicate your build like my self. I love your budget precision build because i too have an aac-sd its a great rifle for the money.
Love your vids. High quality, clear demonstration and exMple pics, proper vocab, and very clear and confident instruction. This is why i watch youtube. Good work!
@InsertGun I have not had the chance to use one, so I really can't tell you much. It's not a first focal plane scope, so for most of what I do, it would not be an optimal choice. The manual states it's only mil-correct at 12.5 and 25 power. IMHO 12.5 is too high for moving targets where you would need your reticle to be correct.
@InsertGun The graduation of the turrets is not the issue. If I were looking at this model of scope, then I would be looking at the 0.1 mil turret model. It works out to about 1/3 MOA, but is better because the turrets will then match the reticle (mil based reticle). The real question is if you turn the turrets a certain number of clicks, does that actually equal a certain number of inches of impact change on the target? We will be getting into tracking tests soon.
@InsertGun I had one that lasted 34 rounds and fell apart internally, The replacement they sent me had a large piece of hair on the inside of the objective, And the "Hand selected" replacement they sent to replace the replacement would not repeat zero no matter what I did.. I finally fixed the problem, I got rid of it.
Would you recommend the Aluminium Alloy TSR rings or the Alloy Steel version? Are there any pros or cons to one over the other (other than maybe weight)? Thanks again!
@JailhouseRN I would suggest that you make your decision mainly based on weight and value. Lots of folks base it on strength, but remember we are mounting an aluminum tube filled with glass onto the rifle. There are only a couple times I have ever heard of QUALITY rings taking damage, but a scope surviving. If you are mounting something like a USO MST-100 (steel tube), then it may be able to take more abuse than the aluminum rings can handle. I for one just pick aluminum and don't worry.
Great series, brother. Made the decision to go with a bolt gun over a gas gun and these videos are answering a lot of questions I had and teaching a many I hadn't even considered.
We are waiting on a new audio setup that should be here in a couple days. The next installment will be zeroing and accuracy testing on the base AAC-SD. After that we will get into upgrading the stock.
@LoneWolfUSMC Great vids brother. Looking forward to the rest of the series. I'd like to see if there is a way to mod (sand/dremel) the original stock to keep it free floating even with bi-pods.
@NCHunter79 We may pick that back up on the tail-end, but I am not sure that is going to fit into our timeline. I have already fallen horribly behind on this because of some ammunition issues and getting ready for a large competition. There is that pesky "work" thing too that takes some time out of my day.
I have a Remington 700 VTR and i am useing the same Weaver rail.I am looking at getting a Leupold VX series 3-9x50mm scope.I am also getting these same rings should i get the Medium or High rings?
@ZACK16GRIZZLY I think medium would be more than enough. I have run low rings with a 44mm adjustable objective. If you are still using the factory stock, you are definitely going to need to build up a cheeck piece on the rifle. Foam sleeping mat and riggers tape (duck tape) works well.
Can you clarify, are those the "TSR" or "TSR-W" rings made by TPS that you use in this video? Also which height did you use here? Thanks again for a great instructional video!
@JailhouseRN They are the standard "TSR" rings. This particular base, while made by Weaver is in fact to Picatinny specifications so the TSR are the correct rings to use.

@LoneWolfUSMC
Do you use any loctite or any other thread adhesive when mounting base or rings? If not, why?

@LoneWolfUSMC Thank you but would it be good for long range target shooting using the .25 MOA turrets for adjustment.

two feeler gauges when torquing down the scope rings to help get even spacing is a big help. thanks for the info.
