Midge looks like he's starring in a porno film called "I'm a Lumberjack and I am Gay." Chris looks like a cop who would love to frisk another man. Billy also looks a bit homozexual. The only straight-looking one in the group is the drummer!
Fucking great the audience!! Was this in Germany?? I am satisfied that many people could appreciate that fantastic music from one of the best groups of the 80's; watching this I regret not being born 15 years before (I was born in 81') However 80's music has always been in my heart!
Ultravox under John Foxx or Midge Ure has always been great. Not Sure of the 1990's version of Ultravox! Looking forward to seeing the 80's line up on tour later this year! (2009)
I gave it a go, but maybe I'm getting old. For me, the Lunatica version sounds very fussy and artificial, even if I quite like the pace and energy of it. Dätwyler's vocals lack any real feeling. Plus, it lacks the "faithless in faith, we must behold the things we see" line which (for me) is pivotal. Mind you, I quite like some of Lunatica's other stuff.
Ultravox's version has those rich analogue synths & Midge Ure gives his all. It wins. But has anyone else done a decent/interesting cover.
Best version of this song here on YouTube. This bad was highly underrated. Midge Ure is one of a kind. He may not have the pipes he once had, but everyone knows the words and helps him out.
Outstanding band, sadly and criminally under-rated.They should have been much more successful, considering they wrote brilliant songs AND had the Freemason symbol on the front of the Quartet Aalbum,LOL!!
I remember listening to this song as I was a little girl of three years. This and a few more of those 80s bands changed my life forever. It is one of the greatest bands and one of the best songs ever written. I was born in 86. I envy those of you that had the chance of living in this time!
I think they play it too fast live all the time. Even now Midge play it too fast in his solo concerts. I prefer it in normal rhytm. One of the best songs of 80`s.
This is the best song we ever did. Period. They should have used this gig for the Monument video. I think the quality in sound and vision are fab. Think the Hammersmith odeon is a bit dark
I saw them on TV december 1981 from a concert in Dortmund with a lot of great bands like A flock of Seagulls, The Cure and Nena. Especially the one with A flock of Seagulls was amazing (you can find it here on Youtube). This is probably from around the same time and as far as I know this is from Germany also.
They were different times - the way they dressed then didn't mean that they were cocoa-shunters.

the clapping is a distraction and gets to be annoying after a while!!

only the great British public would buy a song called "shadupa your face"..and Vienna only reached #2..the rest is history!!

What's with all the clapping? Makes it sound like some dance track.

I just love the guitar part at 3:13.
Damian19921992 4 years ago 3
Yeah, it sounds great, but it's not a guitar. Watch the video. That's Billy Curry on his Moog.
buhonival 4 years ago 4
Is that a Moog? It looks more like an ARP Odissey.
jbordas 4 years ago 4
yeah...I think you are right about the Odissey...could probably be played on a guitar...but Curry is one of a kind...
buhonival 4 years ago 3
Currie was known for his solos on the ARP Odyssey. In 84 he switched to the OScar.

I'm also born in 86 (such a bad year for the hard Vox fans, I must say)
I agree everything that you say :) I wish I would have been born maybe in final 60's or beginning of the 70's to listen live this up.
odr752 4 years ago 2
Unfortunnately we can't have everything. At least we listen to it XD unlike the others who don't know what they miss.
