This original version included the line "All animals and people evry day of the week", which I thought was totally dopey. I much prefer the updated version which replaces that nonsensical line with the much trendier "Mountaineers on mountain tops and divers in the deep".
Absolutely classic! I was watching Sesame Street with my goddaughter when the updated version of this song came on. You would have thought I was the kid. I got so fired up! ha ha. Thanks for the link
In the very beginning of this segment, it seems more like the guy is tossing and turning rather than engaging in restful sleep. However, the kitty at 0.42 looked so blissful.
Well, I grew up in the 80's, but I so remember this version well, and I agree that this version is much cooler than the newer one. I love the little sleeping cat ... So cute. I remember thinking of this song as a child whenever I would find myself trying to fall asleep at night, and Joe's voice was so soothing. R.I.P, Joe.
Great song from a show that was innocence personified and was probably the cornerstone of the first 5 or 6 years of my life! Well actually it was Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers and the Mickey Mouse Club (the one with Blair from Facts of Life, Todd Bridges and Mindy Feldman-wah,wah, wah). Maybe it was just me, but the 70's was a great time to be a kid!
@tpirman1982 That's for sure! I've heard freight trains many times, and they are NOISY, especially compared to the MBTA commuter trains going through the area. The only difference is that the freights here use diesel locomotives, while the train in this video used an older Pennsylvania Railroad E44 electric locomotive.
My kids watched this when little. They thought the man who sleeps when the train goes by was their father. Looks just like him. Then they would want to know what he was doing on tv. Sleeping Obviously. Made me laugh.
OH MY GOSSHH! i havent seen this in forever too! i love ittt i always member thinkin about that guy that was sleepin on the ground and the guy that falls out of the chair haha and all the animals does anyone remember the "somebody come and play with me" song with the leopards?
Thanks for posting a better quality copy! I am going to re-post many of my segments in full frame one of these days. I can't do much about the audio quality though. I recorded all my stuff without cable. By the way, where did you get this clip? I don't remember it being on the DVD set but it may have been.
Totally loved this when I was little... :)

Does anyone have the sketch of the African boy putting on his pajamas, going to bed with his teddy bear, and dreaming about his day?

If the kids sang this with those screechy voices, then this skit wouldn't be as good as the real one with Joe Raposo singing it.
