The vignettes were blatant filler so that they didn't have to animate longer stories. The vignettes, the lengthy, repetitive opening and closing sequences, the old footage cut into new episodes--it was all animation at it's lowest. And yes, Little John's eye would just disappear for no reason! Watch the Jeremy Hotz "Yuk Yuks 25th Anniversary" upload if you want to see a good bit on Canadian kid's shows.
@snufpark One of the animators said in an interview that Rocket Robin Hood had the second highest percentage of file work of any show he'd ever worked on. The highest was a series called "Moby Dick." 30% and 50% respectively, if you're curious.
@LadyDeirdre Thanks, Lady. That's interesting. The practice still goes on with computer generated animation. My son works in the industry. They rework old CG models and backgrounds whenever they can, to cut production time and costs. It's a lot subtler though, than Friar Tuck's tonsured hair line sliding up and down his head from one scene to the next.
Wow, an electric quarter staff, the ''merriest'' of Robin Hood's men...clearly Little John is a gay leather man, not that there's anything wrong with that. Just that I never noticed that aspect of his personality as a youth. Bravo!
Nope. The narrator was Canadian actor Bernard Cowan, who passed away in 1990. If you've ever seen any of Wayne & Schuster's TV shows, he narrated those as well.
Classic stuff- the worst cartoon ever, makes the early Beavis and Butthead episodes look sophisticated- this show amongst the animation industry, was an embarassment to have worked on but its cool to watch it now.
Yeah I'm the worst cartoon it takes one to know one, like The Mighty Hercules- my neighbor spent all summer f-ing his dog trying to make a doggie version of a cenataur like Newton from The Mighty Hercules- "what's that Toot, Herc's ring? Herc's ring? oh you mean Herc's thing, Herc's thing!"
Dang it, Bobby!

If little john was kind to all creatures why then did he clobber the bad guys with his electro quarter staff???
I'd hate to see him really pissed off...

What I find unfair? They had the vignettes of Robin,Little John and Friar Tuck, but they didn't do any of Maid Marian or any of the other Merry Men.

I've never heard of this cartoon let alone seen it in New Zealand. This has to bo one of the strangest ideas for a cartoon ever.
There has to be a place for Rocket Robin Hood on some show somewhere. Perhaps as a cartoon break in a modern kids show.

I've heard that the narrator of this was Alex Trebek. It sure sounds like him - anyone know if it's true?

Can we get also Maid Marian?
VideoStart 5 years ago
Unfortunately, there never was a Maid Marian vignette. And she only appeared in a very few of the 52 episodes.
RocketRobinHood 5 years ago
In addition she never demonstrates any defense of offense skills.Just your typical damsel in distress scenario.
kokujin1014 4 years ago
Probably why her character was dropped during those "dark" episodes, along with Alan-A-Dale and Giles, unfortunately.

When I was a kid it used to bother me how Giles poofy chef hat never blew off when he flew around with his jet pack.
