  • What's with all these "current" Marines saying this guy isn't a real Marine and the producers did a poor job of representing a real Marine? It was a beer commercial, not a recruitment video. The Marines aren't what they were back in the WW2-Vietnam era, it's now ran by a bunch of 20 year old college frat boy drop outs who blindly defend anything that is Marines related as if it is supposed to be up to date to this day.

  • I remember this commercial when it first came out, funny then and stil funny all these years later.

  • 1) there is no such thing as an "ex-Marine", 2) that "ex-Marine" didn't have a damn thing on his uniform which means he's out of uniform, 3) Marines take their covers off indoors unless its for ceremonial purposes. If you want to do a real Marine commercial, do shit right.

  • @thnksmarter Perhaps you should read smarter. Previous comments have explained why the commercial was done the way it was. It was done correctly for advertising.

  • @fawdown You may attack me all you want. I am pointing out that this commercial was done poorly and could only be used as a "recruiting" commercial if brand new prospects haven't a clue what they're looking at. Real Marines know better :)

  • @thnksmarter Commercial was done correctly. Tons of previous posts have explained that military rank and insignias are not allowed in commercial ads, because if so it would be an endorsement. This was a beer commercial that ran a long time, not a recruiting tool. If it was accurate it would not have been allowed to air. It was aired at a time when people were a lot less uptight, and cranky over these little things.

  • @fawdown Perhaps it was done correctly within "guidelines", but again, it would bother any Marine worth their salt how off the uniform looks in the commercial for a "DI".

  • @fawdown Yea, I am going to read through pages of comments to seek explanation when I could make a comment and get the explanation that way. I'd rather think smarter :)

  • @thnksmarter You could say that the way to think smarter is to have all the facts :)

  • @fawdown I'm not one to deliberately waste my time. I'd rather have the answers come to me.

  • @thnksmarter Waiting for answers to come to you has a good chance of not knowing the truth. I'm glad Marines don't wait for the enemy to come to them. But I agree it puts people off to see someone call themselves a marine and not show it on their uniform. I can understand the way people feel about that. However, military endorsement is not allowed in advertising.

  • @thnksmarter Commercial was done correctly for that time frame of advertising in 1986. No rank, no insignia, no ribbons. DoD regulations. As far as his cover on inside, he was wearing a black duty belt (Senior Drill Instructor) and when wearing a duty belt you're considered to be "under arms". Covers are worn at all times, inside and out. I should know, I'm a Retired Marine and former Drill Instructor.

  • @beaagent29p Interesting because when I was in the DI's didn't have their covers on when throwing back a few.

  • @beaagent29p I didn't drink in 91-93 while I was a hat BUT I see your point. i just think writing the brewing company and MMEA in Quantico would be a step in the right direction. The commercial is about 25 years old and I don't think Youtube comments can solve the problem. I served from 82-2003 and never seen the commercial until now. I consider it a parody.

  • @thnksmarter its people like you that make me think marines are douche bags and thats sad because i know a lot of them arent, this was a commerical for beer and im sure im not the first to explain that to you

  • @VitoANDKevSeries I'll tell you right now - I'm an asshole. And nope, you're the second. The other guy uploaded the video and I haven't cared enough to respond to anybody until now. Will probably be another month before I care to respond again. haha

  • @thnksmarter good then i can get the last say in and forget about this, i knew a guy im assuming is just like you, let me when you were younger you could bench 500 pounds, and shoot a hand gun a mile down the road im sure you beat women too but you wont say that one out loud, you "marines" are all alike arrogant shit talking women and children beaters, now i want everyone to know that im dissing marines ive met alot who are great people but alot of people who are marines are extremey cocky

  • @VitoANDKevSeries talk to me when you earn the right to put the uniform on and see combat a couple of times overseas. i don't have time for completely ignorance.

  • @thnksmarter seems like a struck a nerve, and you know whats its my god given right as an american to talk and say what i want, you of all people should know that mr marine and i will never wear a uniform that supports a government that bombs countrys for no reasons in particular, sure you might have fought battles but which wars were you in? i am willing to bet if you killed anyone they were innocents and that makes you a little more than an obedient dog

  • @VitoANDKevSeries struck a nerve? haha, you wish. I've been shot at with mortars, sniper fire, etc. - how much damage do you think an ignorant white trash hippie kid can do behind a keyboard? what's that I hear? your mother is asking you to take out the garbage and she left you lunch money with a signed field trip permission slip to take to your teacher. without mom, responsibility and reality awaits.

  • @thnksmarter this is too good lets see what did you say? "Will Probably be another month till im ready to respond" thats hilarious, and just so you know since you know me so well you should know that i work 40 hrs a week been out of school for awhile now and have my own residence but you know that already obviously, because thats all you can say im young so i can attempt to bash him this way, just remember your 25 and barely have any years on me, im pretty convinced youve never seen battle

  • @VitoANDKevSeries for some reason you think i care, which is probably why you respond to everything i say. i don't need to prove anything to anybody, much less to yourself. have fun token man because token is fun. that is probably the only thing we have in common. peace.

  • @thnksmarter that and blowin shit up im sure

  • That fag is Not a real marine

  • @dodofrog2 No he is an actor. But reading from your post, if you are interested in him romantically, I'm sure you can find out who he is. Good luck with that.

  • @dodofrog2

    DoDoHead

I have a photo of him from my USMC graduation book. It's posted on my album page at photobucket under the same name I use here. It's the one of him and my senior DI, S/Sgt. Blankenship.

  • Bill was one heck of a Drill Instructor. He deserves to make a buck wearing whatever he is required. He earned it. I still got chills when I heard his voice. Thanks for posting this video.

  • @SuperStump54 LOL good one. I bet he was tough. It seems like so many other people who comment here are bothered by no rank and insignia without considering why that was done in advertising. Plus they don't bother to read the comments before getting mad about it. No military ranks and insignias are allowed in commercial ads. Otherwise it would look like a government endorsement. But I thank people for service and sacrifice

  • come on miller Once a Marine always a Marine

  • Thanks for posting this. I have been looking for it for awhile. I'd like to thank him for making me a man, a U.S.Marine.

MCRD San Diego, Platoon 3107. June, 1969

Oh yeah, it WAS 10 weeks, they were rushing us through and shipping us to Vietnam ASAP.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • Seriously, 13 weeks total, 12 weeks of training, first week is recieving not in training matrix. You are at MCRD for 89 days, but only 70 training days

  • Comment removed

  • @izaak1011nsa once again, read through the comments to understand why ads were done this way.

  • Comment removed

  • sorry im not even gonna read the comments im just gonna say this was a fail attempt any marine would know off the bat, so what audience were they trying to reach?

  • @flepnar1990 It's a beer commercial. Hence they were trying to reach beer drinkers...

  • thre are no ex marines is a brotherhood

  • Pick up miller light bottle and automatically become Marine. Shit I wish.

  • They really fucked this commercial up. Ex-marine? No such thing. 10 Weeks? Boot camp it 12. Do the research miller.

  • @redsfan293 You might benefit from reading several of the previous posts about it.

  • @redsfan293 It's actually 13 weeks.

  • Comment removed

  • @PyR0Star What are you talking about?

  • @redsfan293 he's not an ex-marine. he's an ex marine instructor meaning no longer an instructor

  • @redsfan293 its actually 13 weeks. do YOUR research.

  • @oldtruck07 It actually changed. Only most recently has it been 13 weeks. I even have a recruiting letter that says 12 weeks on it. your still right though.

  • @redsfan293 back then it was 10 weeks

  • i remember that commercial my drill instructor ssgt waldeer was tougher then him

  • y the fuck doesnt he have anything on his damn uniform?

  • @MarineARFF Read back on the comments. Military rank and insignias were not allowed in tv ads.

  • @fawdown thats just fucking retarded, but what about ribbons and medals?

  • @MarineARFF I guess its the same reason why you don't see the military endorsing consumer products.

  • @fawdown i dont understand that but ok.

  • Its copywrite law film commerical can have the same uniforum as the military. So next time u watch a war movie pay close attention to the uniforum. Something will be wrong with it

  • @DGreeneJR556 they can wear the same uniform, they just cant discriminate against it or the military. there will always be something wrong no matter what.

  • (C) 1986 Anheuser-Busch or something??? for really miller brewing dumbass! this anit that rice beer

  • @rscamaro89 Yeah it's swill actually. Cheap watered down crap. Nothing like the taste of a micro brew or anything else in the world. I suppose that is why I didn't know who made it. Why? Didn't give a shit. It's just an old commercial to me, and fun to share for nostalgia. So go screw yourself.

  • He forgot to remove his cover. Same with the other dude behind him.

  • @BearWalken

DIs wear their shit indoors, it's how they roll! at least they did while i was there, it's different for them.

  • @BearWalken idk what's going on with the dude behind him, but DI's wear duty belts, thats considered under arms, so covers are always worn.

  • fawndown .... jus tongue in cheek ... thats all .... Me an ole GW was ole drinkin' buddies ..... he allways told me .... If he was to do good for the country he would send in the colords first .... thats all..

  • Comment removed

  • @pwea1 I read this a bunch of times and I still don't get it...

  • Wait nevermind I get it. I'm not going to comment. You probably can't hear me anyway, way back there in the 1950s.

  • i wrote to my drill instructor more than once.

  • lol he doesn't even have rank insignia

  • @MrFreeman420 I think you should look back on the discussion. This has been talked about and explained. Ignore the angry posturing stuff and look for posts about military regulations regarding TV content.

  • @fawdown yeah your right lol :p

  • No Eagle Globe and Anchor on the campaign cover, mustache out of regs. The list goes on and on... Still its a kick ass beer commercial we'll prolly never get to see something similar this day in age on real TV. I know there are statues within the DOD stating you cannot replicate military uniforms. Even if they are so close you have to rearrange ribbons/medals to make them illegitimate in Hollywood.

  • sounds like this guy likes cream puffs in his mouth

  • @warpup28 You're an idiot. So stupid you can't even get the premise of the commercial.

  • FIrst sergeant ever with a slick sleeve huh?

  • i love his voice.

  • Ha ha freakin jarheads getting all bent. I was in the navy find me a armed service that is more poked fun at. This is from the 80's it was meant to ne... wait for it... SATIRE!!!. I know that's a big word for you guys but relax.

  • ok well...

1st. there is no insignia or anything on his uniforn.

2nd. once your a marine your a marine for life there are no ex-marines

3rd.its called Boot Camp not basic training

and 4th. the "Boot Camp" is 12 weeks not 10 dumb ass so what i have tosay is FAIL!!

  • @McCollum2009 This is the 1980s. In advertising people were a lot less concerned with getting all the facts right about the situation, and more concerned about the product placement. There are tons of examples of ads way out of proportion. There are quite a few people that see it as an insult. You respectfully have beliefs in the values from your Marine training. But it is an ad made 25 years ago. The only thing you can really do is just don't drink it or something.

  • @McCollum2009 regarding your point about boot camp, it has changed throughout the years. When I went it was actually 13 weeks of fun. ;). I did get a little annoyed that a private was talking about being a Drill Instructor lol.

  • @speedfreak247 yeah its 12 weeks with 1 week of recieving and processing i ship august 23rd in 3 days for camp pendleton

  • @McCollum2009 I dont give a rats ass if your shipping out to boot camp, that doesnt make you shit, so quit acting like your important. Your nothing but a disgusting undisciplined human being, your mother should of just fucken swallowed you when you were born.

  • @McCollum2009 basic training is not in camp pendleton you stupid mother fucker, its in Marine Corp recruit depot in San Diego CA you dip shit. I hope you get blown up in afghanistan

  • @McCollum2009 Trust me, while your there you won't differentiate between the 12/13 week thing.. its all the same lol. Hope you studied... lol. Your about to take a big bite out of the turd sandwitch lol.

  • @McCollum2009 It is called basic training, and its not 12 weeks or 10, its 13 weeks

  • @noearaujo umm no technically its 12 weeks with a week of recieving and processing and its called Boot Camp or Marine Recruit Training......i ship out for BOOT CAMP in 3 days

  • @McCollum2009 12 weeks plus a week of receiving equals 13 weeks that your stuck in that shit hole. And its not called boot camp, its called basic training, Ive been a marine for 3 years now and its funny when I encounter poo lees like you that have no Idea what they are talking about, you are worthless to the Marine Corp and to this country, your damn recruiter must of been in a world of hurt thats why he enlisted you. I hope you dont make it, I hope you fail, I hope you die in boot camp

  • @noearaujo actually no douche bag he enlisted me bc i called him after 2 years of college wrestling and i run my 1.5 run in 8:45, 26pull ups, and 115 sit ups thats why he enlisted me dumb fuck

  • @McCollum2009:

AND HE NEEDS A FRIGGIN' HAIRCUT!!!!!

  • lets see that beer gut

  • OOOORAH!

  • hey deadeye dante. sure your not in the army? I think you are just upset that you chose them instead of the Marines. There is no Marine "basic training" its boot camp or recruit training.

Takes a man to say he's a Marine on youtube and then completely fuck up the most elementary knowledge of the USMC

    Fuckin retard.

  • I don't see the original post you are replying to, but until now I didn't know what the Marine training was called either. I just never gave it much thought. It doesn't make me stupid. I just didn't have the info. Not everyone has every little fact of everything on earth memorized, even when they belong to a particular group. It certainly doesn't make them retarded.

  • Fawdown- If you were a Marine, you'd understand. I wasn't calling the general population retarded for not knowing the basic proper Marine Corps terms. But a Marine most definitely knows that Recruit training is NOT called basic. That's an army thing. I was talking to Deadeye Dante, And he is a fucking retard for saying "I'm a Marine", when he's really not.

  • @fawdown I am not Marine but I know many that are and I can GUARANTEE that they know the difference and if they don't they will be forced to learn quickly so shut ur piehole and respect those that have and are serving. They surely know the difference

  • @carpediemnh First off...learn to take your time when you read something so that your eyes stay the same speed as your skill level. I never said Marines don't know the difference. I didn't know the difference even though I have military friends. It just never came up. You dishonor them by naming them in an argument in which you didn't pay attention.

  • That puke couldn't even hack a tour of duty with the Campfire Girls ! You are right about not knowing USMC lingo...it's "boot" and I did 6 P Days , 88 Training days in 1973.

  • 'rah

  • @NamVetBuck Stop bragging

  • @jordan19862000 Wasn't bragging...stating facts. Was an explanation of how long boot was.

  • @NamVetBuck Alright fair enough. Im in now, thank you for your service.

  • Yeah, this moron was never in. 4641 3/28/89-3/28/93 Semper Fidelis

  • Exactly itzchiefyy.

The proper terminology is boot camp or recruit training because that's what the Navy calls it and Marines are just naval infantry.

    Need a ride? LOL

    J/K... Semper Fi

  • first, theres no such thing as an ex marine, second that guy had NOTHING on his uniform

  • once a marine..always a marine

  • @madmarine2010 well, thing is it calls him an 'ex marine DRILL INSTRUCTOR', and second as the u.s. marine corps did not endorse the beer, he COULDN'T have anything on his uniform.

  • @madmarine2010 One more thing.

You're not supposed to wear your uniform for sales or promotional purposes.

This rule is to make sure using a so called "Ex-Marine" (No such thing) for an advertisement, does not misrepresent the Marine Corps.

If the Marine Corps had to do with this stupid ass Commercial, it would at least say at the bottom "Sponsored by the Marine Corps" or "payed for by the Marine Corps".

  • @kaleyley0829 in case you hadn't noticed(which isn't hard for a marine) his campaign hat has no emblem, his shirt has no name tag, emblems, medals or ribbons, or rank, its just a plain khaki shirt you can go pick up at any walmart...therefore he is not breaking the militarys rule for uniforms in advertisements because other than saying he was in the marines(which isnt illegal if he was and perfectly legal to say if he is out) there is no proof he is wearing his uniform at all...point proven

  • Mass produced major brand beer yes. But certain microbrews, mostly from Oregon, etc are unmatched in the world.

  • @fawdown yay for oregon beer!

  • shit taste like water...

  • Does shit really taste like water?

  • pick up a miller and you can find out for yourself....thanks grammer police :)

  • it's grammar police...

  • Haha JTMondal I am in the Marine Corps and the whole "Few and the Proud" thing? Yeah its bullshit. We had a guy get through Basic 20 lbs over weight. So yeah. As for training? the PT is good but the stupid little rules bullshit you think will be done with by after Basic Training? not so much. It still exists. like Shotgun Punishment.

  • Haha "Miller Lite, the beer of hardasses." Good commercial. Oh and the rights to Miller aren't Anheuser-Busch's, but its all good.

  • this is stupid...not even a remarine...or even look like one....

  • Lol, as I have said a bunch of times before...it is just a commercial...What is a 'remarine'?

  • Is that like a marine do-over?

  • you have to be a RETARD to know Marine Recruiting videos are pure propaganda, but hell I'm joining because I wanna experience and prestige and the training.

  • Of course they are propaganda. They have specific vids for each demographic. For high schoolers, they have vids about fiddling with electronics, and blowing stuff up. In colleges, where presumably people have grown up a little, they will show career placement stuff. The same goes for TV ads and the times they air.

But what does this have to do with beer?

  • This is bogus they called him an ex-Marine It's former Marine.

  • This is also just a commercial, nothing more.

  • Yeah but even if your just playing one you should still show some respect to the real Marines.

  • Comment removed

  • Yes but it is proper to call them former Marine as well.

  • @SoutherncrossCSA what difference does it make? he got paid to do a commercial.

he's happy, miller lite was happy 26 years ago, and the marine corps managed to stay intact.

  • Anyways back in the day we didnt have rank nor ribbons on "C" "Charlies" "Chucks".

  • nothing like alcohol in te military , I drank more being in than out of the army HOOOAH

  • and thats why you were in the army soldier ;)

  • omg thats breat

  • notice the glass before he pours and then when he's pouring.

  • DON'T LOOK AT THE CRAZY LAZY EYE!

  • Where's his rank insignia?

  • Perhaps the Marines did not allow them to use insignias of any kind...Seriously though, to all responders, it's a commercial, and not meant for any meaningful deep set beliefs. If you are proud of who you are then wonderful, but this sells beer and that is it.

  • I just love watching these videos, because I get to read all of your comments, and the fact that we have pride in the fact we can call ourselves Marines, is nothing to be made fun of, cause the fact is, you cant call your selves anything, and platologic07, I think you need to go sit in the corner and think about your comments cause quite frankly, it dont matter what your color is, if your standing next to me with a rifle, its good enough for me!!!!!!! regardless of race!

Semper Fi - Do or Die

  • I removed the comment from platologic07. He is a racist and his words hold no meaning in a civilized world.

  • hes not a rela drill instruter he an acotr dont get it mixed up

  • It seems strange for someone who was a real DI:

    -There's no rank/insignia/unit markings on his " uniform "

    -He's wearing his cover indoors

-There's no EGA on his hat

  • If they're not in the military they can't wear an official uniform dumbass

  • ur right.

  • The caption says "Ex-Marine Drill Instructor". But besides that, DI's always wear their cover indoors, because they're on duty.

  • Marines dont wear unit markings on there uniforms (thats just gay).. the army does.. DI's wear a duty belt witch allows them to wear there campaign cover indoors..

  • my grandma and my dad worked for mller. great beer!

  • NO SUCH THING AS AN "EX-MARINE"!!! I am surprised any Marine would let him self be called that.

  • true to that

  • It never said ex-marine. It says ex-marine drill instructor.

  • Go watch the video again because it does'nt say ex-marine, it say's ex-marine drill instructor. Because he is'nt a drill instructor anymore. so if your a drill instructor you are a drill instructor forever?

  • No, this guy was actually a DI in Marines. He was the DI who taught Louis Gossett Jr. how to act like a DI for An Officer and a Gentleman.

  • Isn't that Carl Weathers?

  • Obviously just an actor. If he were a real Marine he would have at least had his moustache within regs. Oh well...the general public doesn't know the difference. As long as this country still loves the Corps then who cares. Semper Fidelis brothers.

  • Drill Instructor's feelings look hurt... that his recruits haven't written back

  • hmmm... maybe the Marine Corps didn't sanction this commercial, therefore the actor couldn't wear the emblem, rank, or decorations that DIs earn.

  • good point.

  • no "ex-marines" only former.

according to a Marine that told me.

  • There's no such thing as an "ex" Marine.

(Lee Harvey Oswald, Charles Whitman, Ken Ryker and Oliver North all breathe sighs of relief. Meanwhile, Julian Rios keeps fucking porn chicks.)

  • im not one but i agree no such thing

  • ok, so hes wearing his charlies with no rank insignia, no ribbons, no EGA on his campign cover. so i guess the marine whom is supposed to be an example marine is wearing a grossly incomplete uniform....

  • It's a TV commercial, not a 50 million dollar hollywood production.

  • Still the accuracy of the uniform has to be there. It doesn't take 50 million "Hollywood" dollars to know that. It's false advertisement. And if he was a real Marine his uniform would be complete regardless of retirement or anything.

  • They are not advertising a recruitment for Marines. Therefore, the ad is accurate to what the subject is...beer. This is the goal of the ad, and obviously it worked, because it ran for a long time.

  • I'd wear my charlie on his campaign cover any day.

  • hey bootboy0844 i beg to differ...I got discharged but I am and always will be a Marine...I love the corps, i partied like a Marine and got discharged for it. However good ole chesty said two things "TAKE ME TO THE BRIG I WANT TO SEE THE REAL MARINES" AND " YOU AINT A REAL MARINE UNLESS YOU'VE HAD AT LEAST TWO NJP'S." no offense to any devil dogs out their just wanna make a point. SEMPER FI.

  • gregba02....I should have clarified my comment...you party, cool, you get kicked out whatever...you fucking kill innocents, rob, deal dope or fucking rape people..you know crimes and others similar in nature...then big boy, you disgrace the Corps and everything Marines have died for...you piss hot and get booted does not really fit in that catagory....SEMPER FI

  • Let's get this right....If you put yourself in a situation to get NJP's....then that just makes you a "dumb" marine.

A "smart" marine wouldn't put himself in NJP situations.

  • No such thing as an "Ex-Marine."

  • Hey jolly113....those who disgrace the Corps are considered to be EX-Marines...Don't matter what they did while in my beloved Corps...You disgrace it...You lose your title plain and simple...people should not use that term loosely.

  • Miller Lite Drill instructor commercial 1986

  • Why are you a dumbass? It say's ex-marine drill instructor not ex-marine. We get it, every marine is a marine forever, blah, blah, blah. Get over yourselves.

  • Fair enough, but dedicate at least 4 years of your life to a job where you know the next day you can be shipped to the other side of the world for 8 months fighting people who's life goal is to bring pain and suffering to you and every thing you know and love. Then tell me you are not proud of what you do. Just let us be Marines and get over YOURSELF "brawla".

P.S. I appreciate the fact you did not rag on the troops just the people on this fourm.

  • My two best friends just got out of boot camp so I have alot of respect the military. I just think alot of people in the Military think us civilians owe them something, it was their choice I did'nt make them join.

  • Nobody should join.

  • you respect the military, but think nobody should join? wheres the sense in that?

  • I respect the people that are already in but think people should'nt join going forward. Just my opinion.

  • Let me get this straight...you have the luxury of your Freedom, and then you have the peanuts to say "nobody should join"!? you ungreatful little maggot...You worthless piece of whale shit...what the hell have you done for anyone since you have been alive? look in the mirror and say to yourself, I see nothing.

  • I helped an old lady across the street the other day.
