True intra abdominal pressure is created with the use of the transversus abdominis stabilizing the low back in concert with the internal oblique to pull tight on the thoracolumbar fascia. The use of a weight belt encourages the lifter to push out into the belt using resctus abdominis as a stabilizer, which is a primary flexor, creating flase sense of pressure and pre-disposes the low back to injury

Don't wear a girly girdle. Build up your lower back muscles then you don't have to worry about "injury."
