i'm playing for about 2 and a half years and my EXTREMELY lousy el toro just isn't good enough for me now, i can't play the damn thing properly. I played and Epi Les Paul Plus-top and it was like heaven. Is this thing anything like the lp in the playability section?

Genre-specific sounds are, IMHO, about 70-80 per cent restricted by the sort of equipment you plug your guitar into. If you want a certain tone, then your best option is to buy yourself one of the many desktop multi-effects processors, and play around with them until you find it. Those things can, in terms of tone, make even average guitars sound special.

This is a very good guitar for its price. If you are a beginner this is perfect to start with, no matter if you play blues, metal or jazz. when you want a upgrade look for some new pickups!

Let me put it to you this way.

If you took a 300 dollar guitar and plugged it into good equipment, then you would sound better than taking a 1,000 dollar guitar and plugging it into cheap equipment.

As I said in another comment, multi-effects processors can be an amazing tool. Amongst literally hundreds of different options, they can even make single-coil pick-ups sound like humbuckers, and vice-versa. This means that even a Squier Strat can sound metal.

I love this guitar I looked and played in in bestbuy today, and I think it sounds great, I played another one I think it was a fender, it was over a grand and it didnt sound as good as this one

One of the best Omen-6 test. But i can understand only two words, because they on english - "Basswood" and "Omen" ))

At least its not bad guitar. Shecters are close to Gibson construction, so fat neck, like on LP. (even c1 have fat neck). But this guitar sounds much better than GRG170/270. Its pretty cool, very close to telecaster-with-humbuckers -> Basswood, bolt on maple neck. And its cheaper than ibanez 170 (but thin ibanez neck could be impotant for somebody) ;)

I think unless you want to tinker with the schecter you should get the ibanez. My favorite guitar is my 1991 yamaha with a thin neck and when I play the schecter my right hand(I play left handed) hurts because it is thicker. It's not bad just used to the thinner neck. The schecter is a very light guitar and for the price is alright but I think the hardware should fit better or at least be installed better.

I would get the Schecter. if you were to get an Ibanez in this price range, go for the Ibanez RG2EX1. That's a pretty nice guitar. More comparable to the Omen 6 in quality

Get the Omen-6, the GRG170DX is terrible compared to this. They are both low-end guitars, but this is so much better in everyway, "feels" better to play, stays in tune A LOT longer, and has a good range of tones etc

I bought a left hand version of this guitar and really am not very happy with it. Fit and finish are not very good, even though it's a cheap guitar it should be a little better than what I got.

what so bad about it? i have one and i think it's great. ive had it for like 5 years and its still great. the only thing that really makes this guitar better is if you lower the action on the strings and maybe change the pickups but other than that it's a nice guitar for the price

funny thing you say that, ive got a 1982 anniversary strat by quier with a bullet start neck and complete fender strat intereior s and pickups, and ive got a completely gloss black schecter om,en 6 dimond series at christmas, i wanted one with a floyd rose but i got it as a gift withxout knowing im playing it know and i can honestly say its the bees knees,

Actually, I agree with you.

In terms of upgrading pick-ups, meh. I can understand this, but think what this Omen 6 offers. If you wanted to upgrade the humbuckers, it would cost you at least 120 dollars. The Damien Elite's pick-ups would cost 240 dollars to purchase. Why not just save up for the extra 200 dollars the Damien Elite would cost, and have a guitar that is a great deal more professional in every way, not the least of which is appearance.
