I just bought a 2003 Bora V5 down here in Australia. Its my first car, they are very fun to drive and go pretty hard.I just wanted to know are they reliable, coz they cost a fortune to repair here in OZ since its a german car. Is there anything i should look out for?. and i heard that the gear box on Boras are rubbish, but down here they cost $3000 to replace and i just bought the car of $8000, so yeh. thanx

i have seen many good drivers and NOT 1 of them drive a VW ? It's always VW driver passing on a double line or passing on a curve or on a cell phone ,speeding through a red light etc. Parking in a handicap spot etc. I want to hear your story. Just got back from my month long vacation in Mexico, traveled & drove alot around the country. My rental was a VW Bora, I have not seen this car in California or in the states. It was fun to drive and in hadle very well and very good on gas.

@padhraic06 to both you and 846524162. Cutting springs absolutely ruins the cars shocks and you will feel every rock you ever run over. The yellow and red springs are coilovers which can be bought at about 1000$ for the full set to allow you to lower and raise your car at your discretion. Try Vwvortex to learn more about it. Lots of interesting guide's to help you out.

its fully illegal to cut the springs now the police are pulling moddified cars and checking for this so i wouldnt do it

@846524162 If you cut the springs it will fail the MOT test. Also by reducing the length of the standard coil spring it will "bottom out" sooner. To lower the suspension you need to replace the standard coil springs with uprated coil springs which are shorter but stiffer. This gives you the lower suspension but is harder ride and this is why the springs are yellow or red.

@846524162 whatever you fucking do do NOT chop your springs. literally THE riceyst thing you can do to a vehicle. also if you do cut the springs, youll have a great time trying to sell it. in other words youll probably never sell it. oh and also have a wonderful time destroying your oil pan, muffler, or anything else that might stick out a little on the bottom. any smart person knows a rice rocket when they see it. all you really gotta look for the dumbass that cut his fucking springs.

It was just a fase, when I wanted to improved my past Bora. Now I have Volvo S40 1.8, like it more then Bora, more comfortable and smoother on road.

But I know what you mean, ricers cut springs. It's not even that expensive to lower the car, new springs cost you about 150 €, not that much.

so you may not have a bora anymore or already cut your springs. But otherwise... DO NOT CUT YOUR SPRINGS. this will lead to better looks but your car will be less structually secure. When it comes to Tuning, never cut corners. you will have to pay the full price sooner or later. better to be sooner and less than later and a fucked up car.

@lagundafire I don't have Bora anymore, I had it for like 6 months and then I sold it. It just didn't fit me, the car was too slow, ( 1.6 petrol) and too stiff and hard. I didn't made any tuning/styling on it and I didn't even consider cutting springs, I was just asking.

Now I have Volvo S40, 2002, 1.8 petrol, great comfortable car :)
