  • I am a memeber of Gardendale First Baptist Church Pastor Kevin is a kind and wonderful leader as well as a blessing to our community and our church. Everyone has the right to disagree with any person or pastor, but this is not the way it should be handled.

  • PSALMS 126:2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: they said there among the heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them -Its obvious that the producer of this nonsense does not read or know scripture. Maybe if you listen to the entire sermon you'll learn something

  • HEY I GO TO THAT CHURCH HE IS NOT REPLACING JESUS WITH JOKES HE IS MAKING WORSHIP FUN

  • I'm sure I speak for a lot of atheists when I say THANK GOD YOUR RAPTURE IS COMING THIS SATURDAY! Ironic huh? Now the rest of us can try to coexist with an elevated level of civility. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

  • I have attended Gardendale several times and every time I have always left feeling blessed. God has opened my eyes many times through this pastor and you can tell that God's hands are on his sermons. Very disappointed that someone would take bits of sermons and put this together and try to say this is this pastor. Not possibly biased, very biased. Whatever personal you may have against him, be professional and keep it off of the internet. All that's doing is showing how much class you have.

  • Unfair video. Possibly biased.

  • 1~all this is a a conglomeration of snippets...not a sermon. 2~if telling jokes during a sermon makes a man against God, then just about every Baptist preacher I've heard is against God, too. Sounds like you've got something against this guy...

  • Pastor Kevin was my pastor in Louisville, Ky. He often uses humor at the beginning of his sermon to grab your attention. His sermon teaches much, and draws many closer to God. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using humor in a sermon. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that Christians always have to be serious, or cannot have a good time. With miserable, legalistic Christians like you why would anyone want to be a Christian. Lighten up. This man or God leads many to Christ,

  • @Deputyez Whoops I meant man of God

  • If you dont like his jokes, dont listen to him, but dont critcize him for doing his job trying to lead people to the Lord. Nobody is making you listen to him, and you are acting as part of the Enemy trying to shun people away from Pastor Kevin. Instead of blasting him on here, why dont you stop criticizing one of GODS people and start being grateful that he is using a little humor in his sermon to grasp peoples attention and help lead them to God? You are WRONG and working for the enemy.

  • if you really want us to believe what this video is saying, you have to put the jokes in context. You can link individual words together all days long to make someone says they're a gay terrorist, but the words carry no meaning out of context..

    thumbs down..

  • @hubbs86 The tones these jokes convey do not fit the context of the message of Scripture. If that was the case we would hear Jesus cracking similar ones in the NT.

Are you from the Gardendale, Al area?

  • @Member35071 no, i'm not. it's another mistake for you to think that anything that Jesus DIDNT do is wrong. There, i'm sure, are many thing that Jesus didn't do because of the short time he was here and the mission he was on. I believe Jesus was funny! the sinners and 'low down homeless' types were always hanging out with him an intiving him to eat with them.. and becides, he's God.. and God created jokes and being funny.. therefore, Jesus, i'm sure, had jokes.

  • @hubbs86 Jesus was definitely funny and God is the author of humor and all other good things. But Jesus did not have to do little tricks to keep people's attention. The sermon on the mount was no place for cheap laughs because of the context of his mission to save lost souls.

If you are not from the area of this minister you will not understand the context of these videos. You need to listen to a series or two before the thumb down this video so quickly.

  • @Member35071 As you might remember, my very FIRST comment was that these jokes were out of context and that you need to hear the rest of the sermon to gauge if they're good/bad... if the guys a poser then by all means, kick him all the stage! but this video isn't conclusive enough for that.. it needs to be in context.. thats all.

  • @hubbs86 Friend, you are not even from this state, of course this will not be conclusive for you. There is enough here to see the unbiblical pattern. If you ok with a pastor to detour from God's word and crack a few jokes to kill time we might as well end the conversion here. But i don't think you will find Biblical ground that that methodology. Let's save the jokes for after church.

  • @Member35071 good luck big guy...

  • @Member35071 On April 27th a tornado hit places in Alabama including Tuscaloosa and parts of Gardendale if God didn't like the way this church was preaching then He would've destroyed them but He didn't so in other words apparently in God's eyes this church is doing what he wants i know that there were some churches destroyed because i have friends who found parts of Bibles in their yard that was just Jude and Revelation, they talk about how God will destroy churches that aren't in God's will

  • This is a fine speaker......You have no need to lie about what he speaks!!!!!!!!!!!

Member35071 you are misinterpreting the Word and Kevin Hamm!!!!!!

I watch him on Sunday mornings before I go to church and his jokes fit in with his message!

  • This is a fine speaker......You have no need to lie about what he speaks!!!!!!!!!!!

Member35071 you are misinterpreting the Word and Kevin Hamm!!!!!!

  • You're clearly misinterpreting the text. Why would it be a problem for a preacher to tell a joke to make the listeners feel more comfortable? To my knowledge, a myth is something that is not true that someone tries to present as fact. Pastor Kevin isn't trying to push these jokes on people as fact. It's understood that they're just illustrations.

  • @VinEthanol Many of Kevin's jokes are not illustrations. They are inserted for a quick laugh. In both letters, Paul tells Timothy to "avoid profane and idle babblings" (1 Tim 6:20; 2 Tim 2:16).

Profane: irreverence for what is sacred

Idle: lacking substance, value, or basis

How are Kevin's jokes different from 'profane and idle babblings'?

  • Your video's take away from the messenger, but the reality of Christ is eternally the same regardless of who delivers it. Be it Kevin Hamm, or pastor xyz as yet to be named. There is one way to salvation & that is thru Jesus. HE bore our sins on the cross, rose from the grave on the 3rd day & ascended to heaven to be with the Father. Your belief, or that lack thereof if so, does not change those facts. Even if U were right [not], this is not the proper way to address a problem w/Pastor Kevin

  • lastly, allow me to address ur comment to jdvance73; the jokes are neither profane nor idle (both references to which U took out of context in Pauls letter to Timothy) they are methods- public speaking- with dual purpose: help break the tension in what can sometimes be "hard preaching" & also help remind us that not only did God have a sense of humor but we're not just"having church" ; more specifically recharging the spiritual batteries along with offering salvation to the lost; in the same msg

  • anything but a sincere pastor is both unfair & dangerous. You should be careful on disparaging one of God's messengers; of which this man is one. There will be a reckoning one day & I would not want to answer for that. Also, it would appear to me that a person who is right with God & knowledgable of scripture would know the proper way to address ur differences. If ur a member who disagrees w/the delivery, this is exactly "not" the way to handle it. If ur heart is right, address Kevin personally

  • I listed 2 other replies on another video post. This is distressing first as he is my pastor; having attended for the balance of his tenure, witnessed his behavior in public when he didn't know anyone was there to see, I am convinced this man lives exactly what he believes. Perfect, no; singled minded in purpose, absolutely. He has a passion for winning lost people to Christ. Can you question his delivery? That is certainly your option & possibly open to interpretation. But painting Kevin as

  • One way that Jesus taught people was through parables - stories they could relate too. I like the way that Kevin uses humor in a similar way. I support my pastor Kevin Hamm. Susan Peacock

  • @shanesooz I agree that Jesus taught people through parables. But there is a big difference between telling a parable to teach a truth and telling a joke for a quick laugh.

  • The passage you are referring to is speaking of legends that are told as truth. Dr. Hamm does not tell his stories as truth but as illustrations. I think you are taking the original intent of the text out of context. It is interesting to me how you can take this text out of context and ignore Matt. 18 that tells you that you should go to him. I would suggest that God is more offended at how you handled this than he is the use of Dr. Hamm's humor.

  • @jdvance73 Many of Kevin's stories/jokes do not illustrate the text but are inserted just as "timely humor". For example see ' Watering Hell Down With Jokes '

The joke that Pastor Kevin told after talking about Hell was not meant to be taken seriously, he told a "myth". The man sending his wife an email and it being misdirected to a woman who just lost her husband is NOT meant to be taken serious, it's a myth that is designed to make people laugh.

  • @Member35071 Once again have you gone to him? What about Matt. 18. No one knows who you are. That is cowardly. I don't think using humor stories is the original intent of the text.

  • @jdvance73 Many people, including GFBC deacons, have talked to Kevin about his preaching. You can ask him about those meetings.

How is Kevin's story/joke about Hell different from the "profane and idle babblings" 1 Tim. 6:20 tells us to avoid?

  • @Member35071 The Question is have YOU talked to him? You are the one posting this not the deacons. I guess I have my answer since you are avoiding the question. You have no right to talk to anyone else unless you have talked to him.

  • @jdvance73 It sounds like you are drawing the issue down a rabbit trail because you cannot explain how Kevin's stories/jokes are different from the "profane and idle babblings" Paul warns the pastor to avoid (1 Tim. 6:20).

  • Number one you lack in your ability to exegete a text and draw out proper implications. The text is referring to false doctrine that derives from “Myths”. According to John MacArthur this verse is referring to “False doctrine—anything claiming to be truth that is in fact a lie." While you may have issues with Kevin's stories the text you using are terrible ones to use. Even IF his storis are a bad thing he is not teaching false doctrine and that is what Timothy is dealing with.

  • You need to learn to exegete a text properly. I would encourage you to take a class on hermeneutics.

Second, are you going to respond to your sin of not going to him personally. Or is me confronting your sin another rabbit trail. I doubt you will respond. I have given you answers but you have not.

By the way, talked to him yesterday and no one especially a deacon has confronted him. You have bad info.

  • @jdvance73 The text is not just talking about false doctrine but the proper Methodology in preaching. In both letters, Paul tells Timothy to "avoid profane and idle babblings" (1 Tim 6:20; 2 Tim 2:16).

Profane: irreverence for what is sacred

Idle: lacking substance, value, or basis

  • @jdvance73 Preachers must avoid a methodology that does not further the Gospel, in content AND tone. Many of Kevin's jokes are simply inserted for a quick laugh. This "timely humor" has Kevin calls it, subverts the tone of the passage.

Again, how is Kevin's jokes not profane and idle?

  • @jdvance73 Paul says that the man of God should "have nothing to do with them" in his communicating God's Words to the church (1Tim.4:7).

How does this story illustrate the seriousness of hell?

  • Member.. I have known Pastor Kevin a long time. I can tell you that he lives what he preaches. He likes people to feel confortable while he preaches, and yes laugh occasionally. At no time does he water down the message or omit pertinent info that would keep people from coming to know Christ. He is a man ,and has flaws like we all do, but I can tell you he is the real deal, and you are being unfair to him. You will stand before God and answer for this criticism of a very Good , Godly man...

  • also to use a PUBLIC forum to critice him is wrong. If you had a problerm with him why wuold you not address him in person or via email and give him a chance to defend himself instead of making this world wide! That tells me of YOUR credibility!

  • @chekane123 Many have gone to him individually, including deacons.

How is Kevin's jokes/stories that he inserts into his sermons every Sunday different from the silly, profane, irreverent, godless myths Paul warns us about in 1 Timothy 4:7?

  • Since you are so familiar with scripture, let me share this one with you.

1 Samuel 24:6 (New International Version)

6 He said to his men, "The LORD forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the LORD's anointed, or lift my hand against him; for he is the anointed of the LORD."

  • @my1Godisgood How is Kevin's jokes/stories that he inserts into his sermons every Sunday different from the silly, profane, irreverent, godless myths Paul warns us about in 1 Timothy 4:7?
