  • Most Kung Fu systems use alot of "Flowery" circular movements.....those movements are used to break out of holds or to lock the opponent.

  • Bruce Lee response to someone whos holding your wrist?? Instead of complicated and mulitiple steps, kick him in the shin hard, he'll let go

  • @Nhia89 If kicking and punching work so well against locks n holds then why dont strikers do so well against jujutsu guys?

Anyways locks and holds are used over strikes "at times not always" bekuz-

    1. For some reason you dont want to hurt that person but restrain, maybe your a security or cop or your homies drunk or simple dont want to go to court for assualt.

2.There bigger then you and punching him will only lead to a punch out with a bigger man.

better to immobilize him with a hold. ect ect

  • @anhkhoinguyen true grappling does beat striking sometimes but its still not the greatest. A good striker with good footwork and a lighting fast jab can beat a grappler easy. The grappler shoot in trying to clinch just move around out of clinching range and snap out that jab at the open face of the grappler. Aim for the eyes the bridge of the nose, the throat or the ears. Stay out of range, move around, and snap out the jabs and long cross

  • @anhkhoinguyen and for bigger guys, swame thing don't stand there and slug it out with him, move around, dogde those wild swings, counter counter COUNTER those wild swings. Aim for soft spots like same things eyes, ears, etc etc and always move around and counter their wild heavy swings and ALWAYS keep your guard up. And always move around never stand toe 2 toe with them. Quick counter jabs and cross and short hooks and uppercuts if they get too close then quickly move out of range again.

  • @anhkhoinguyen I've been Boxing and doing Muay Thai, mostly Boxing for awhile now now so i know a few things or 2 about striking espcially with grapplers.

I try to fight with wrestler whenever i have the chance to see how good my jab is to keep them out of distance and if they try to shoot in i have my right uppercut ready to counter.

No offense or anything tho i did Judo for awhile too so i know a lil' bit about grappling.

  • This qing na with tai chi movement !

    Not CLF

  • @morningbee88

Tajiquan isnt the only style that uses soft principles when doing locks, all QINNA techniques are like that......Otherwise its not Qinna stupid lol

  • @anhkhoinguyen

Qina is not using soft, it is getting at the correct point of a joints

  • Siempre es estimulante ver un maestro en su arte marcial. Saludos desde Uruguay

  • Come see monthly updates on Master Chan you tube channel type in chanyongfa and see open teachings of the Choy lee fut passed down through 4 generations of the founders family

  • What a great clf sifu, its not all form with this master, brilliant the best clf sifu ive seen.

  • I'm in love with CLF

  • It even has some aikido technikes

  • False. May be similar, but CLF started decades before Ueshiba was born. If anything, Aikido has some Choy Lee Fut techniques, but again, that's just not true. It's a coincidence: fighting is fighting; anything that deals with the same scenarios are bound to have similar movements.

  • And the roots of Aikido lie in Shaolin temple after all, because the martial arts came from there to Japan.

  • nigga, please

  • Master Chen has one of the last complete systems. 8 Step Mantis is another complete with medicine, practical fighting and internal arts covering all ranges of combat. Master Chen is respected by those who have nothing to do with Choy Li Fut. I can't say the same for others people have mentioned. Why collect forms when real CLF is taught openly? This is likely the closest thing to authentic shoalin. Its not at a touristy temple. Our combat came from shoalin, from seeing this I can see how.

  • Ainda bem que tem legenda. rs...

    Choy Lay Fut Rules!

  • AMAZING

    from Italy

  • when did he make this??

  • Chen yong fa, is THE BEST!!

    Saludos desde españa!!!

  • He's very good :)

  • interesting

  • pfft, im his Son...

  • Lol at 3;24 we can see my Master(Sergio Arione) going accidently on camera.

  • wow..never knew CLF has "kam na" too..

  • Ahhh crap i love to train there, but i renember when i went there i got bit by shit loads of mosquitos in my legs lol, and when i was training it suddenly rain a lot, and got sick the next morning, someone it was really fun to train there after all that haha

  • once again, politics comes in to play with who's who instead of realizing where the quality is. The heart of the art we love and call CLF comes from its application. The ability of a teacher to understand that and pass it on to those deserving of it marks a master. Sorry, this stuff gets in the way and breaks up energy that could be spent studying. - DC1 -

  • Sorry but there is no comparison between DFW and CYF. I've been in both lineages. Out of respect I won't say who's better but there is absolutely no doubt which is the true master and which just learned a bunch of forms.

  • You are 100% correct my friend. I share the same CLF lineage as DFW aka Jimmy Wong since the '70s. A true master? Not in this life.

  • but one must wonder, why does he speak Mandarin? The Chan family is of Cantonese origins. It seems strange, even in a dream to hear this.

  • chen yongfa, or chan wingfat, speaks mandarin with a heavy cantonese accent! maybe that explains your dream! (he can speak cantonese, mandarin and some english)

  • Thank you

  • That's why I could understand him!

  • Although I have commited myself to not openly reveal my position, I know for a fact that one of you is correct. Dead-on-balls accurate.

  • He is Grand Master Of Choy Lee Fut!!!

  • not exactly, well, he is but not choy li fut the school. the true grandmaster is Grandmaster Doc Fai Wong and has learned from his grandfather that learned from the original chan descendant of choy li fut

  • DFW didn't learn from his grandfather. His teachers were Lau Bun, Hu Yuen Chou, and Wong Gong - none of them were related to him. DFW is also not the "true grandmaster" of CLF. There really is no "true grandmaster" of CLF, as there are many branches and lineages which have their own GMs.

  • I did some research and found the guy in this video IS the direct descendant of the choy li fut lineage and he is named Chan Yong Fa. Also, I was checking DFW's connection to CLF

  • Yes, Chen Yong Fa is a direct descendant to founder Chan Heung. He's his great-great-grandson. if that's what you meant by your original post, then my mistake. but your original reply states that DFW learned from his grandfather, who in turn in learned from a chan family member. plus, the video is of Chen Yong Fa, so i don't really know why you mentioned DFW.

  • no, I was a student of one of Master Chen's senior students, and Master Chen has all of the documents from Chan Heung because they were passed to him. Doc Fai Wong is not the grand master. He doesn't even know all of the Chan Family forms! I know this for a fact.

  • awesome video. That guy has some nice power in his techniques
